well maybe it isn't a great thing to go to GZs and beg people to come to
your world, but asking can't hurt. Stop *mass* advertisementNov 23, 2002, 8:03pm
I agree. But i still don't think it would be very effective. More than it
is now, but still not very effective. Have your own Booth at Avatars 2002!Nov 28, 2002, 2:39pm
Why was it moved to coincide with his birthday. I don't see a correlation
between an author of books to do with hobbits and an awards for Avatars. [View Quote] Have your own Booth at Avatars 2002!Nov 28, 2002, 3:39pm

pretending to be a goose but it had the same effect. Expanding world Needs volunteersNov 28, 2002, 8:05pm

to stick yourself and other people into that catagory them feel free. Expanding world Needs volunteersNov 29, 2002, 6:59pm
That seems to be a very medieval attitude. I'm not offended by anything you
said personally (afterall, why would i be offended by something thats not true) but some people probably were. Yes, younger people do have certain commitments that may take their time on the computer away - but adults do to. Most adult jobs will take up more time than school hours for teens, plus there is so much else to deal with. My point is, open things up for everyone and anyone - it doesent mean they'll automatically get the job, most people are a good enough judge of character to determine whether or not people will be able to put enough time in and work hard enough. Of course everyone will have slow times, i am halfway through a break from my work for AWTeen due to my exams - but its only temporary. If something doesent work out even after you have gone through the selection process, you get rid of them, we all make staffing mistakes. But the way you are doing just sounds like prejudice to most people and stereotyping groups. Some of the best people were greatest when they were young, Mozart for example. Think about it. I don't care much what you choose, its your decision and i'm not going to influence it further than this post but i'd like to know your decision. - Ste Expanding world Needs volunteersNov 30, 2002, 4:46pm

Well i'd also consider the AW rules to be wrong but I think they are there
for some legal reason. People below the age of 18 can't be bound by contracts or something like that. [View Quote] Where can I get a beta cit?Dec 2, 2002, 8:06pm
Well i'm so glad its getting on its way - even though i despise most of it,
well its Beta form - wasn't the original release meant to be at the end of August. Public release of Demeter terrain editorDec 9, 2002, 6:38pm
AS long as people cover their land around the builds then 3d object rotation
wouldnt make much of a difference. The Move command would be worse, but 200 meters of land cover also counteracts that. Thast how people deal with it in worlds were special commands are availible anyway. Public release of Demeter terrain editorDec 10, 2002, 8:58pm
I think the bottom line is, AW needs to consider whats more improtant - the
possibility of some slightly worse vandalism, which can be dealt with. Or the chance of all builders to use every command and build to their full potential. - Ste Public release of Demeter terrain editorDec 10, 2002, 9:34pm
"I think the bottom line is, AW needs to consider whats more improtant..."
When I said AW i meant AlphaWorld, i know Activeworlds standings on the issue but they need to decide what they think is best for their main world (i despise saying that so much). They opted not to enable special commands maybe they need to re-evalutate on this. [View Quote] I Have Expanded A!!CT World for all to enjoy!Dec 5, 2002, 4:49pm

I agree with you mainly Technozeus. The point i'd like to bring forward
is - posting in HTML here isn't as bad as posting on other NGs, such as Andras'. Wheras Andras solely pays for the bandwidth his NG uses - and is concerned about conserving it and not wasting it unneccesarily, AW don't seem to be this concerned - and we technically pay for these NGs ourselves, with our cit prices etc. If people want to use up their $70 with HTML thats their decision. Most people will probably realise that AW won't care much - so they'll post in it. What i'm trying to say is, HTML shouldn't be used on privately paid NGs like Andras' or Ngs were moderators have told people not to use it; but it seems to be ok to use it here - if you have a legitimate reason. - Ste [View Quote] AWTeen ELIMINATION EventDec 22, 2002, 2:01pm
Hi guys,
AWTeen is holding an event, which will hopefully commence in the first week of January. The event is called ELIMINATION, and if sucessful will be repeated seasonally. I'm not sure how many of you would be intrested in this but for details and how to participate please go to... http://stecloud.topcities.com/elimination.html This event should be one of the best in AW if enough people participate, so please check out the site. - Ste PS: I know, i complain about advertising events then do it myself :P welcome messageJan 4, 2003, 6:24pm
JRR Tolkien used the phrase eleventy-first to describe Bilbo's 111th
birthday in the Lord of the Rings. The welcome message is supposed to be a pun considering Tolien would be 111 is he were still alive. Its grammatically incorrect - but it doesent matter since tis a pun. welcome messageJan 7, 2003, 10:40am
Language has just developed in certain ways, some because its easier to talk
that way - like using "an" in front of nouns that begin with vowels. As apposed to "a elephant" which requires greater effort than "an elephant". I couldn't guess how other less logical preferences developed when it came to speaking, but every language has had irregular words - even Latin (although a considerable less amount than the English language). TY!Jan 13, 2003, 5:41pm
Ettiquette and rules are completely different things, besides why should
people be so quick to conform to what's accepted - as long as thye aren't hurting anyone. Tourist allowance 3rd colorJan 11, 2003, 12:35pm
But thats what the wishlist NG is for, you may as well make use of it.
Tourist allowance 3rd colorJan 12, 2003, 10:05am
You're contradicting yourself. Earlier you said it doesent matter where you
put soemthing - AWI will read it anyway. Now you are saying that it should only be put in the wishlist NG? [View Quote] Here we go again.Jan 17, 2003, 5:59pm
Dictators eh ;)
Seems like a very left-wing society to me - no one tells anyone to do or to not do anything. Its hardly what i would call a dictatorship - but maybe i have been influenced by my fellow dictators. AWECJan 17, 2003, 9:19pm
You'll find the figures suprising. There is probably an equal or greater
amount of people who live outside the USA than inside the USA that use AW. The US definately has the highest user population for a nation - but there are many other nations outside it that have a lot of AW users. UK, Australia, Poland, Austria, Scandanavia and basically anywhere else in Europe. Plus many others like Japan and Libya. Put it all together that is hardly what one could call a minority - its a compromise, but of course, with all compromises the end result pleases no one. I try a bit of positive discrimination with my events - sometimes to please people from my home country ( the UK) and sometimes to please the US residents and other countries, i don't mind staying up to all hours of the night occasionally. Plus - working for AWTeen, a lot of people have liited weekend commitments. Just my two cents. AWECJan 18, 2003, 11:58am
English is harder because it has so many inconsistancies. Most cases would
give teh superlative an -est suffix, however there are many exceptions to that rule such as Good, Better, Best - I think thats a bad example but you see where i am coming from. Also plurals, in french i'd guess about 95% of words when pluralized just had an s added to the end of it. But in English we have - Sheep, Sheep - Tonality, Tonalities - Mouse, Mice. To alot of us, these inconsistancies come naturally, but to someone learning the language - and even to some people who speak Englsih as their first langugage (as evidence from some users of AW) - it would be hard to grasp. Have you contacted AWI - its technically not your fault. Even if you are
not renewing the world you could still get that FRAUD lable off yur back i would presume. Mr.Bruce appoligizes to allJan 23, 2003, 6:28pm
Glad to hear it all seems to have blown over anyway - its a shame that a
renewal of a world had to happen this way - but at least its still there (even if only a shadow of its former self). FeNiX will have meant well, and he obviously loves your world - if you havent actually talked with him it might be an idea, i'm sure there are things you both want to say. A!!CT is back on-line!Jan 23, 2003, 6:33pm
Guilty of what? Loving a world so much that he just wanted it back - ok,
there are better ways to go about things, but anyone with an open heart can be blinded by passion. If its a crime to love something so much you'll do anything for it - then i guess he's guilty. If its a crime to do something that could have pleased so many - he's guilty. And if its a crime to steal someones credit card and charge over $1000 dollars on it, then i guess he's guilty of that too. - Stecloud |
