New Activeworlds Webring

Jul 26, 2001, 12:05pm
It is all my decision.

I dont ahve time to do anything else, yahoogroups is the easiest way to go
about it, so I jsut put it up on there, I'm sorry if no one likes it but
well, you dont really have to join it, its up to you.

If someone wants to write a script, then sure, go head and do it, and mail
it to me, and I will upload it - but if it requires any more work than jsut
uploading it, it wont happen, because in all honesty, the webring isnt
really a priority at the moment and I dont have the time to work on anything
extraneous.

But for now, the yahoo ring is it, sorry, it was either jsut throw that up
or kill the webring thing entirely, as its not a huge priority at the
moment.

Some good news =)

Jul 27, 2001, 7:41pm
After talking to Tom for ages and geting the okay from Enzo, we will be
releasing alot of the older objects sets for download on the new website
when it is released. This will probably include Mars, Yellowstone, Meta
(maybe Atlantis....) objects, *and* there *may* be the posibility (if we can
sort it out and we get the go ahead and all that stuff) that we might
release some object sets that were previously used for internal custom
worlds, but thats a big maybe atm....

But, good news is that those other worlds will be available for download
when the new site gets released =)

They dont actually go down *that* often, but it does seem that they have the
horrible tendancy to go down on a *weekend* when none of us are around to
fix it up, and as we dont really check the NG's on the weekend (I do
sometimes) we dont usually catch it until the Monday morning.

Sorry about that, I suspect the machine they are on actually crashed....

X Object nonsense

Jul 30, 2001, 3:47pm
The broken X objects are being done this week, our modellers have had no
time to go fix them yet as they are under a deadline to finish off a new
avatar set. Oh, yes, new av's are coming ..sometime...=)

But I'm tired of this X object nonsense - you know the one, you probably got
a telegram about it, saying that we are going to be ripping the X objects
out of AW. This is a load of tripe, why would we remove objects once we
placed them in on such a huge scale?

If anyone sends you this telegram, please let them know that it is a false
rumour.

I did not indicate, at any stage, that the new website would be *released*

tempest in an xteapot.rwx :-)

Aug 3, 2001, 5:13pm
As far as I know, we only ever removed one or two objects - if there are
more than that I dont know - can you list the ones that are saying they are
not showing up?

also, int he beginning, there were objects that were removed because they
were jsut not suitable for common use, they were not evenr eally suitable
for Z object use but they were int here for some reason. As far as I know,
some of these objects that were removed early one, will not be replaced - it
is only the ones that were removed for recent issues that willb e removed,
and I believe there is only a couple of those...

There are also Z objects that I never released as X objects, and those wont
ever be released as X objects either, due to problems they have - some of
these were never put into the registry...I dont think the puddles will be
put back in, im afraid - im not sure.

The modellers are all under deadlines, they are working on new avatar sets
at the moment - I know it is taking some time to get those ones we yanked
out put back, but I myself cant do much about it. I will ask them once
again, if they are able to jsut fit it in somewhere...

Thanks Lara.

[CU] Response to Citizens Union Proposal

Aug 7, 2001, 7:31pm
Personally I think AWDEbate might be a good place to start, as I also agreed
that the CU you have proposed is fundamentally flawed in that it is not
representative of the community as a whole, but, unfortunatly, only of those
within this newsgroup.

As well as Rick, I'd also be happy to be a part of organised debates and
discussions in AWDebate.

Suspensions

Aug 13, 2001, 4:57pm
Unfortunatly, "Lanezeri" is the first to be suspended from these newsgroups
until the 20th of August, under the recent one week suspension rule. It is
in hopes that this one week of suspension from posting will allow him time
to think about his recent actions and derogatory comments towards others
here in the newsgroups, and we look forward to having him back on the 20th
as a productive member of this newsgroup community.

Under the new rules, we have decided upon incremental suspensions. Let me
just break down how suspensions will work, as we think this is the fairest
way to go about tempering some of the more inflamitary nature of individuals
in here.

There is a warning, if the content guidelines are infringed upon in a over
the top manner, if the behaviour continues, the individual will receive a
one week suspension. After that suspension, they are free to post in here
again. On their second warning, if they continue after that, they will be
suspended for two weeks. On a third warning, if they continue after that,
they will be suspended for a month.

A fourth suspension will be permanent.

As you will see, they have six chances to avoid permanent suspension, and it
is in large hopes that this system is fairly looked upon by all of you. I do
read these NG's, but sometimes things slip by us, if there are specific
problems that have not been addressed, please mail me about them and we'll
look into them.

I want to try and help these NG's get back to a good forum in which to
converse about the software, where the debates can be ruled by intelligence
as well as mutual respect, if you cannot respect one another for an
individuals opinions, then there is no point in being here. I'm currently
also looking into a web forum version of these newsgroups, so we can makybe
get a larger cross section of people in here as well, we will see.

Lets see if we can turn this NG into a productive environment, and we will
all look forward to seeing Lanezeri again after his brief time out.

Suspensions

Aug 13, 2001, 5:36pm
[View Quote] Thats the aim - it will only be used in the most "pestified" (yeah i know
thats not a word) situations....I think there will be more than enough
warnings to show that it isnt merely heavy handedness - I dont like banning
people to tell the honest truth, but sometimes something must be done as a
punishment, otherwise it will jstu keep going on, and on, and on.....

We'll see how it goes =)
