OK, I have to change completely what I just said. John, you were
using one of the 3.4 beta browsers that had this bug (where you beta tester?). By doing this, you have betrayed the trust put in you by AW. The newer browsers may seem like they allow a non-CT to change options, but they don't actually change them, at least, as far as I could test it. Or am I wrong, john? Alex [View Quote] >Well, actually, AW is wholy to blame, and not john (however foolish >you may think he was). This is a security issue and should be patched >inmediately. > >Alex > [View Quote] Citizenship DisabledAug 8, 2003, 7:39am
Even if john was using a beta browser, this is a security issue which
must be addressed by AW. Alpha and Beta testing software should only work during its allowed period (that is, if beta build 123 replaces beta build 122, build 122 should not be able to function, and so on). This might require that completely separate applications be built for alpha-beta testing (not using the normal build sequence), that would only work per build number, or that after a beta testing period, a forced upgrade be done (or both). Beta software should not be allowed to function outside the beta environment. Alex [View Quote] >OK, I have to change completely what I just said. Ok, words retracted, john. Which means: both the current version have
this bug (which I could not replicate btw), and according to me, older beta browsers with this and more bugs can still be used. Two issues then that AW has to address to protect world owners. And no reason to punish john, since he did not break a beta - trust. On the contrary, I would say, for exposing this bug. Alex [View Quote] >I duplicated the bug yesterday with the regular v494. > > > [View Quote] Citizenship DisabledAug 8, 2003, 10:54am
What seems to be happening here is that the browser has a basic fault
which should never occur: the browser aught to wait for a world-attributes event before it believes changes in the world settings have occured. This is a basic principle in programming. For clarification (thanks john): the world settings are not changed, but the browser believes they are. Since it is the browser that decides ultimately whether to fly or not (of course, normally it obeys the world settings received in world-attributes), if it believes it may fly, it will, even if the world settings do not allow it. Alex [View Quote] >My citizenship and my 3 worlds were today disabled after previously flying & >shifting in AWRPG (not a crack, hack or anything, just expoliting a bug that >AW have left in their system). A few suggestions to AW:
1) test pointer to and if non nill close the world properties forms when a client exits a world. this should not be a problem since the forms are not modal nor do they call modal forms. 2) wait for confirmation from an event world attributes to validate a change. 3) optional - refresh the world attributes form values when an event world attributes is received (has its pros and cons) Alex [View Quote] >What seems to be happening here is that the browser has a basic fault >which should never occur: the browser aught to wait for a >world-attributes event before it believes changes in the world >settings have occured. yes, i did, but since aw is doing cryptic (and so are you, btw :) we
should wait, shouldn't we? there are 2 matters here: john's bannishment, and a nasty bug in the browser. Has john been notified of the reason of his bannishment? have we been notified that aw has acknowledged this bug and will fix it asap? Goober,
Sorry to hear you are stopping your contributions to what is left of the community. I myself continue with my bot. Not because of the AW developpers staff, which since Roland and Nelson left, have not deigned to have a decent dialog with external programmers like me... but because, being unmarried and childless, my bot is my way of seeding fruit. A fruit I hope others enjoy. I, as many others, am deeply disappointed in the AW staff. Their perception of what they owe to the virtual community is deep below zero. In financial and moral sense. But there are many things you can still enjoy here, and I hope you will. Hi,
great page. One remark: the best strategy is to disable 'use cache' for a very accurate rendering (this takes longer). The Xelagot cache is as good as as the AW.DLL responds, the cache is made only when a whole sector has been received and approved. If in very rare occasions, if this goes wrong, the cache will give you a wrong result. I have seen this happen seldom, but as a precaution, for important backups, disable 'use cache'. Alex [View Quote] >At the request of Eigna, I have made a webpage for basics of "Saving Your >Builds" and "Moving Build to New Area", as projects in Xelagot (by XelaG). >This is not to serve as documentation that you can and do receive from the >Xelagot Official Site, which I do include the link to on my page. BTW, you do not need to start the bot afresh to avoid the cache...
the cache is used when you allow it. So if you survey and disable 'use cache', the cache will not be used. If you restart the bot, as you say, it will still use the cache unless 'use cache' is disabled. Alex :) [View Quote] >Hi, > >great page. New xelagot products :)Nov 1, 2000, 7:37pm
Hello all !
At long last, two programs that have been used and tested by me and a few others for almost a year now are made available as freeware for non-commercial use: the Av99Bot was tested during the 1999 September Aussiecon event, tested and used in War (these are the bots, but not the scripts!) and by a few others... and the SrvcXlgBot, an NT Service bot which runs in the background... both can have more than 3 bots, the limit being what the AW SDK can handle in one instance of the aw.dll. Depending on how crowded the places are, you can have 10 to 20 bots running in one application. These programs are not for beginners, though, and they do not let you interact with the bot through the user interface. Everything must be planned beforehand and written in the ini file. They run any xelagot script, and can log into a xelagot server to communicate among themselves and with their owners. Go to a link to their page at: XelaG Quality Bots http://www.imatowns.com/xelagot/ Saying speeches with a XelagotNov 17, 2000, 5:54pm
Are you tired of copy-pasting your speeches one line at a time into the AW
browser? Use a Xelagot to deliver them! X1 version 2.9999953 has this ability through the user interface. Previously, you needed to write a script to deliver a speech with a xelagot, now you can just copy-paste your speech (or part of it) into the bot's chat or whisper box, and hit ENTER. The speech will be delivered at a reasonable pace, one line at a time. If you need to stop all ongoing speeches, go to the menu "Bot | Kill Text" and click on it. Well its easy to solve: ban the wrongdoer, keep the bots :)
Many ppl 'live' in AW, with their bots. Weekend is just the time for lots of ppl to have their leisure... with their bots. Bots have never really been loved by AW: from the begining, world owners were warned of the danger of bots, never of the advantages and pleasure you can get out of them. Whenever a person misbehaves using bots, the bots are the culprit, not the person... that's the reasoning. Wrong in my eyes. At least , AW could have had the kindness of posting this weekend-or-whatever ban in their own newsgroups. XelaG. [View Quote] beta newsgroup read authentication?Nov 30, 2000, 12:43am

If you have a Hex editor, you can do this: copy your browser directory to
another directory on your disk. Open the copy of aworld.exe with the Hex editor. Look for the string "Alphaworld" (without quotes". Change that to for example "Blphaworld" or "Clphaworld" (same number of letters). New browsers have more than one occurence of this world, I think the first one is the important one. This is the way it was done in old times... I don't know if it breaches any law :) XelaG [View Quote] Homosexuals being ejected from AWLD worlds...Feb 11, 2001, 8:10am

Count Dracula, just *think*: if you came in saying that, ppl would = probably laugh and say: of course it's ok... and everyone would dismiss = the matter. The GK, as I see it, should try to deflate matters, not the = other way round. His/her answer could have been: "yes, of course you're = welcome..." and could have added, in whisper: "we prefer that these = matters not be discussed here too much, to avoid arguments". But the = GK's attitude polarised the matter, took an agressive approach, = consolidating prejudices against gay people. I think this attitude was = wrong, and I hope AWCOM will realise this and appologise. LOL are you serious? If parents do not want their children to learn about
'homosexuals' or whatever, would they allow free access to internet to those children? ... anyone who is allowed by their parents to come in here has also had a bit of contact with the outer worlds. Any parent with religious beliefs that would not allow such interaction (and there are quite a few) would not give their children the opportunity to engage in cyber travel. XelaG |
