And Shamus just made a post in Beta saying that the slowdowns may be caused
by debug logging being turned on - which I do not have enabled.

Had to dig deep in the WingCorp labs for this one.
GeForce 2 MX 32mb
DirectX 8.1
Not sure on video drivers, I dismantled the machine before I checked.

IMHO....
G = AWGate - No other world has any right to have this rating.
PG = Worlds targetted at younger people, where foul language is tolerated to
some extent
R = Worlds targetted at adults, where foul language is tolerated.
X = Sexually themed worlds, excessively violent or disturbing worlds such as
those depicting a post apocalyptic environment. Note that these can appear
to some extent in an R-rated world, but making it the central theme bumps it
up that last notch. This rating is also appropriate for ungoverned
free-for-all worlds where the owner doesn't control any of the content.

If you're going to use movie ratings - X would require either an ID or a
full beard to get in, while R only requires friends that work at the
theater.

Eh? Count me out. You can get a VERY good feel for Activeworlds from AWGate
and the open tourist worlds. Perhaps TOO good of a feel (Which is why most
worlds were closed to tourists - they had no reason to buy cits because they
could just "freeload", so long as they were willing to give up a few things
like owning a world and using bots and occasionally having to rebuild their
stuff)
AW actually did a lot better before tourists existed at all (Scroll up - E N
Z O said it). I'd be interested in seeing that come back, at least for a
short period to see how well the [exceedingly weakened] community bears it
and more importantly, how business goes for AWI.
Granted, it probably wouldn't work - these aren't the "golden days" of the
Internet anymore - back when it was all about adventure and learning and
other noble pursits - now it's all about getting somthing great for as
little as possible for the individual, and making as much money as possible
for the organization.
Not every day you see a teenager get nostaligiac, eh?

AW isn't done in VB. VB is like fingerpainting compared to this stuff. For
some reason, I remember Roland saying that it's 90% C and like 10% Delphi at

Now is usually when I break into a rant about how at least 50% of American
Internet is still dialup and that 53KB is a massive file - but I have much
bigger fish to fry. Such as Microsoft (DirectX 9 is 40mb) and Futuremark
(3dmark 2003 is nearly 200mb) - and both of these are essential for my
business.

Raw? May I remind you that when combined with NNTP overhead and other normal
Internet traffic (Instant messaging and such), a 53kb takes ~30 seconds to
DL on a 53.3k connection. And who gets 53.3k anyway? The fastest I've EVER
seen is 46.6 on high end ISP/modem combinations, and average is around 33.6
for a winmodem and SBC-conglomerate ISP (Yahoo, Prodigy, etc. etc. etc.).

It's not unfair. If you had ANY IDEA how real companies - Sierra, Microsoft,
EA - conduct beta tests, you'd know just how fair and equal AWI's system is
(Although AWI's system tends not to work and everyone else's does). The big
companies force you to submit system specs, and in many cases sign a legal
document saying that you won't give the software away or even TELL ANYONE
THAT YOU HAVE IT. Then, they pick only the best and what they feel are the
most qualified (Usually based on spelling ability, number of systems
available for testing, testing experience, variety of hardware combinations)
and then give you access to the beta program.
What AWI asks is "Do you want to be in the Beta program?" and draws names
out of a hat or somthing.
An Open Beta is not a Beta. It's what's sometimes called a "Battery Test"
because it exposes the software to a massive range of platforms in a final
attempt to find bugs. Using an Open Beta does not make you part of the beta
team. Often, such as RIGHT NOW during an open beta, a new revision will take
place, which implements certain changes which may be harmful or damaging -
therefore they do not release them for Open Beta. Once one of these
revisions takes place, the version available for Open Beta is no longer
current, and is generally ignored, because it's possible that any newly
reported problems with that version may have been fixed.
Please visit
http://www.activeworlds.com/products/cancel.asp to rectify any and all
problems you have with AW's practices.

Get a bigger gun. I suggest a Magnum Research Desert Eagle .50AE, Smith and
Wesson .500 Hunter or if you're in the mood for some real destruction, a
Barret M2HB class 3 machine gun.
ORRRR you could shitlist the poster.
Oh, and since we're quoting scripture, here's a couple of my favorites.
"But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to
thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the
wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?"
(II Kings 18:27)
"For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the
man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." (I Corinthians
11:8-9)
Therefore, make The Lady eat shit(list) because she's obviously not male.

Lady, you don't know evil. If you think that what's going on in AW and in
these newsgroups is evil, you're in for a big surprise. Dropping poison gas
on innocent people is evil. Slaughtering Jews is evil. Crashing airliners
full of innocent people into buildings full of innocent people is evil.
Not letting you post in the beta newsgroup is not evil. Not letting tourists
into Alphaworld is not evil. An old fashioned flame war isn't evil.
Now would you like to chill out and deal with your problems (Yes - YOUR
problems - NOT OURS!!!!) properly or am I going to make you wish you weren't
a holier-than-thou Christian with my mad scripture-quoting skills and random
dirty words?
