again I ask....are R and X worlds eligible for CY nominations and awards
this year

sweets

CY nominations SOON!

May 9, 2006, 1:33pm
well no not exactly...restricting the X worlds from competing is NOT fair. I
said NOTHING about pornography...my world is X and is amazing. Really
annoyed that again this year it will not be eligible for anything other than
scorn...If you are running an award ceremony for ActiveWorlds, it would be
nice if all worlds were considered part of this process. Our money seems
good enough, why not our art.

One person's porn may be another person's art....been to a museum
lately??...Guess not, they show breasts and penises...oh my....they even
show them kissing *faints.....

why should I make my own awards for something cy should already be
giving?...CY represents supposedly all of AW....AW allows X worlds....then
awards should be allowed also. X means adult, period. We have always had X
rating for the freedom of art and design. We are not and never have been a
porn world

Adult worlds, X, used to be allowed in the awards, and there was never any
trouble about it. has only been a couple years everyone seems to have become
such prudes about sex, drugs and rock and roll LOL....

this restriction bans about 50 worlds, some of them absolutely amazing in
design.....We are not Gorean, but to me this restriction seems to be a way
to ban all Goreans, Ds, or anyone that seems to be 'that' way.....plain and
simple it is prejudism at its best at AW, and this award restriction this
years does nothing to encourage anyone to visit or enjoy what some of us
have worked very hard to create....

is it so damned hard to have another category in the CY that is only for
X....allowing X, as it used to be?

this award ceremony is just plain not fair, the restriction against X worlds
that are supposedly part of this community....this restriction only makes it
worse allthis prejudism against X worlds, and will only make the adults
leave, taking their wallets and worlds with them....as you may have already
noticed happening....

I think you may need a new lawyer. The line between R and X is so close as
to be non-existant so allowing one and not the other is a farce. Both are
part of this 'family' supposedly.

As for the children 'getting in' and seeing something they saw advertised at
the CY, do you not remember the Rating Password that Parents have the option
of using?. This little feature negates your argument of a 'family person'
finding an X rated world by error. AW covered their asses on that one, and
it also applies to any awards, or should.

You can not be sued for a minor 'finding' a world that can be appropriately
BLOCKED by password by the parent. so that argument is out.

I would not nominate my world anyway as I always found the voting structure
of the CY to be more of a popularity contest than a contest of actual
skill...a joke...but that is another discussion completly. I would like
acknowledgement from the 'community' that we exist and do perform some great
work.

Let the parents protect their own children, but give us our JUST rewards.
Adults...R and X....we are people too.

LOL if your lawyer was any good he would have seen that 'out' (loophole),
but maybe you did not mention the feature to him then. I just hope if you
did, you never need him for anything REALLY serious LMAO

I would think that the Awards for effort at ActiveWorlds, represented by CY,
and the PR for such Awards advertised in NewsGroup, are the "parties
concerned". PR means public relations, yet I had to push to even get an
answer on this subject from Tart Sugar, who I suppose is the PR
representative. We are the public also, like it or not. We exist and should
have rights too. That is all I want.

No awards last year, was more fair and honourable than awards that negate
the work of so many great worlds.

I will shut up after this one....because putting up is useless.....No matter
what awards come up, CY is the Golden Award. Until the attitude at CY
changes, the attitude in AW to our worlds will never change....and its
killing us slowly

so I shut up....and possibly in the future pack up....as so many have
already done....not because of CY, but because of the 'attitude' that awards
such as CY cause that causes the 'biased' attitude you talked of.

I did not hear anything about the SAW awards until unfortunately it was
pretty much over. But I do think it has promise. From what I have read not
many did know of it because of its newness but all the comments were pretty
favourable, and it seemed to be run on more of a fair basis of judging than
CY ever had.

I checked out the winners as am always curious about good builds and was a
nice surprise to see was NOT all G and PG and there were some pretty amazing
places by the pics that I hope to soon visit to get a closer look....matter
of fact I was shocked that it was so fair LOL after checking how the
'voting' had been done....

I think I read was Maki who did this new award, to whoever it was, good work
and hope to see the 2nd anual next year.

the really ironic part of all this is that we have always been X rated so as
NOT to offend anyone. Because the rating is such a fine line between PG13, R
and X, and people's cultures could be different in that regard also, we
always had X so that anyone coming knew that there was a possibility of
viewing something they may take offense to. Key word 'possibility'....Not
that the world itself is offensive.

it does seem a little funny to me that self rating could be allowed as the
guideline for CY.....any world can change from X to R or lower, to enter the
CY, then change it later. Rating is not imposed on us by AW or judged by
anyone but the owner, or complaints to AWI. X ensured less complaints from
the more feeble stomached person. They know who they are. It does not mean
the world is bad, it is a warning. Builds can range from G to X on one
world, but a G build will not be permitted because it is on an X world.

sweets

CY nominations SOON!

May 10, 2006, 1:27am
is there any AWI delegation that could come to a world that is not sure of
what the rating should be, fairly judge it, so that if we do chose wrong we
are not just wiped out as threatened in the guidelines? No. We always took
X to be safe (better safe than sorry), for artistic freedom, for freedom of
speach, but it seems we should be more sorry than anything. By trying to be
overprotective of other people's feelings seems we have given ourselves a
bad name. And that was not the intention of any form of Ratings structure
imposed....films, internet (Aw would be more right to follow the internet
gaming/chat rules and ratings than film industry anyway....and they are a
bit more strict on violence in their ratings than in sexual content...btw)

sweets

CY nominations SOON!

May 10, 2006, 2:35pm
because if they are offended....and enough complaints are made....your world
can be wiped out 'without notice'....that part of the guidelines is a bit
scary when you have worked on a world for 5 or 6 years and are not really
sure what rating you are.....what I think is X you may find is XXX...and
what you think is PG I may think it as X....LOL etc....I see nothing wrong
with the human body...unless it is bleeding heavily LMAO

my best friend and co-owner of Taurius...her daughter has been looking over
our shoulders since the age of 13, loving our builds and not caring much
about the 'nudes and etc'....She was permitted to visit but NEVER to talk to
anyone or use the computer for any reason....because we do not believe in
children being on internet. They just do not understand their mortality.

She is now 19....a beautiful well adjusted girl who is still interested in
mine and her mother's work....

Ratings did not ever mean much to her, as the only rule was she had to be
over 18 to even be on a computer unless with us at Taurius. I gave her a
computer for her 18th birthday LOL but she rarely uses it.....she is very
popular, outgoing, loyal to her man....

I like to think that our protective rules and yet our openess on ALL
subjects (rule is if they ask they deserve a proper answer) made her the
great Adult that she is now. Yes I speak with pride. We almost lost her at
13 to a pedophile at a chat room, a girl we had always trusted and was only
permitted to 'chat' with her school friends. Was only through spying in her
email and chat logs, huge discussions about 'men' and then laying down the
law that she was both protected and warned. She was permitted to Taurius
after that, watched over, not permitted to talk to any but her mother or me
and although my friend wanted to 'trust' her, she put on the filters and
passwords and a few other things so the computer would not even turn on if
she was not there.

So what you think may be appropriate for your children may not be the same
as what we think is apppropriate is appropriate for ours.

May 10, 2006, 3:42pm
I have read just about every page possible on ratings and it has done
nothing more than inform me to confuse me LOL

There are film industry ratings, which AW seems to follow, but the line
between PG13, R and X is so confusing as to need a 'panel of judges' at the
film industry to figure it out. It is not done on a self-rating basis. And
even then there is the fact of changing times. Midnight Cowboy won Academy
Award for 1969 as an X rated movie....it was reduced in 1988 to R....As was
said by someone else here, our worlds change too much too fast for AW to
have anyone decide for us what rating we should be. Not only do times
change, we add on (and on and on and on).

there are internet game ratings, based more on violence than sex. Using a
different set of letters, ratings and rules. Seems to me that the Game
Rating is done by organizations on an honour basis...you send in the 'worst
scene' of the 'game' and they decide what it should be rated on by how much
'blood'. If you do not apply for rating, you are then marked as 'unrated'
and filtered out by most child filters.

There are the Government guidelines, but those seem to be anything goes as
long as they are over 13....and anything to do with child porn, animal abuse
etc have a few laws but I dont think there is really any set form of
Rules...as yet.

AW is not a movie, yet AW insists on using the old ratings of the film
industry. We cannot even compare the two. Maybe they will come into the
times and use some of the newer internet game ratings...If this ever happens
you may find many of the so called G or PG worlds all of a sudden considered
'Adult' because of the violence or blood....haha I live for that day.....

also can you explain what exactly is 'pornography' as compared to 'Nude
Art'....where exactly the line between art and pornography?....

LOL sorry but the ratings guidelines have always been a bit blurry about the
subject. Certain 'pornography' is not allowed by law....that we know and
accept so cannot show any of that here anyway. the rest is just what they
call porn....and much of soft porn or fantasy art is just that ART. ....so
is that X or R....nobody knows....and is not art also for children?....I am
glad they do not censor the museums so heavily as they do here. I guess to
be R rated would mean adding a few fig leaves here and there LMAO sorry

kill cops...and chop up people....is a horrible game..

so was looking for ratings...seems they have put the equivalentn to an X
rating on it now because of hidden content

but it is normally an M rating...equivalent to R here

so you cannot make that world for under R (17+).....and copyright I think
you do not even have right to do this here or use that name in any way.

'concerned mother bitch post'....first of all I am not a mother....second of
all I own an X world and have 'rating issues' of my own. Thirdly it has
nothing to do with children, it has to do with right and wrong. To me
getting points for killing a police officer is just plain wrong. Dragging
woman out of her car and shotting her a couple dozen times is just plain
wrong. I have less trouble with sex than I do with violence of this kind.
And yet I adore horror films. All I am saying is you better be sure of the
ratings you chose for this 'game' and maybe think as you make it 'Is it
morally wrong to allow some things as a "child's game"'

This is not some mother bitching....This is someone saying that a Game that
encourages killing Police....or other people....is just not something AW
stands for under an R rating (yes including many PG worlds that have these
types of games already)...Although some would like to see the GK's in that
role of police officer LOL, it is still wrong to make the bad guy the good
guy if you know what I mean.

no....that is the Ratings Board opinion as well as mine....and under 17 is
under 17...wanna be picky that means 17 yr olds are ok....LMAO

GTA 1,2,3,4 etc and all trilogies are rated 17+....M.....recent hidden sex
scenes (which the company has now admitted to having included in the
original CD and although were not, they say, meant for viewing, hacking +Hot
Coffee+ has made it possible causing an AO 18+ rating so copies are being
removed. and fixed by the company) has caused the rating to be changed to AO
(X) until a new version is released without the 'porn'. But regardless of
this 'scandal', lawsuits for deaths, lawsuits for misrepresenting to their
own company stockholders and releasing of pornography to minors due to
'hiding' etc etc whoever is right or wrong.....regardless, the game is M
rated....which by AW standards is the R rating....Advertising or running
game that is for sale as M rating, I would think the world representing it
would be rated R....or higher

and btw, equinox, this game was banned in australia....it is now being sold
but as 'unrated' which it seems is as bad as an X, as australia does not
have the same rating structure as others or something LOL....

I have no trouble about sex LMAO but I do have trouble with women being
dragged out of cars, killed, their money taken, police killed and their
weapons taken, prostitutes solicited (health goes up, money goes down) then
being killed to be robbed....Pedestrians being run over for money.,...sorry
but I dont think that is for kids going through puberty or before LMAO they
have enough trouble knowing right from wrong, real from fantasy...

I believe what I see. And I saw pure violence, glorified. You are 14 and do
not know too much about life yet, Brenton.

Watching or playing a game of any kind is a form of brainwashing. It becomes
NORMAL for a very young person when they see this type of violence over and
over. It is called desensitizing.

I have seen the youth get more and more violent. Anger between themselves,
disrespect to older people, petty crimes, car jacking (run by adults using
kids as searchers). And all this violence in our youth has increased
potentially with violent video games.

I live in a city of 2 and half million people. Maybe you do not have this
trouble in your small towns, but here we have gangs. Always had gangs. And
the youth see by games like this that it is OK to be in a gang, to harm
another gang member, to kill. Afterall you are only killing scum(?)....

Killing is killing. This is no movie. You take the part, play the role, and
if you play a role long enough you WILL become the character. You may never
kill, but it will shape your personality if you are still being 'formed'.
Your attitude will change to 'fit' your character in the game.

Sorry Talisan, but I can not encourage or support ANY video games that
glorify violence. And I certainly will not encourage or support adult games
being played by young children. And this game, not only by my own opinion
but by the opinion of thousands of others including the rating board, is
Adult...or Mature....17+.....Do you think they spend time and money rating
things without thought, evidence, psychological proof?....Like we rate
things here at AW?...NO.

home...his 6 yr old was kicking everyone, thumping his younger brother on
the head....would run in the room, kick everyone, hard, then run out....and
laughing. Scarey thing was it started being his 'temper' over time. Took
awhile to see the 'connection' as back then no one thought violence, was
just a game. The games were taken away, and his temper and violence became
'normal' for a 6 year old.....
