Skepticism of websites is understandable.
A more thorough way to verify the credibility of a website is - not to
just go there - but to use a search engine to find what other websites
reference it. Then read what those websites say about it. Then, above
all, judge for yourself. :)

P.S. The longer this thread lasts the more clicks the website gets. You

Could someone please post the list of words that cause ejection at
AlphaWorlds GZ?
TIA

That's very nice! Nice natural landscaping and water effects. I especially
love those tbtree objects.
If you sink a copy of the red and brown trees underground so that only the
very top is visible, it makes a nice pile of fallen leaves underneath. (Of
course, you wouldn't want to do that under green trees.) "Create sound
forest1.wav" always works well on trees too.
At 255N 172E, to your right, I made what we used to call a "traffic light
tree" containing red, yellow and green leaves.
(We need bird and squirrel objects.)

Hey, thanks DeltaPHC! I can use this.
I often need to orient an avatar very accurately.
I first orient a long thin panel like pp31t_h.rwx to the exact heading then
sight along its thin edge.
In mouse mode the bullseye brightens when directly over the thin edge.
With "activate cursor on" in the panel, all I have to do then is click out
of mouse mode and fly away!
Thanks!

I had the same problem. Get one of those compressed air cans at Radio Shack

I thought someone in one of these AW newsgroups already started an
AW-specific Wiki not long ago.
Sorry I lost the link. Please repost!

Are you sure? I may be wrong but I seem to remember being surprised that it
was independent of Wiki proper. I lost the link due to a hard drive crash.
Sorry.

I guess I was thinking of http://activeworlds.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page
but it looks like that hasn't evolved at all.
Actually, I don't understand why that was even created when
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Worlds already exists.

I actually found myself moving in this way right after a teleport the other
day. Only problem was I couldn't stop. It was just a forward glide at
about walking speed. Turning, etc. worked normally. Maybe the feature's
already there and I triggered it accidentally.

Thanks, SW Comit. That is a very useful tip!
Here's another that surprised some folks: Click in the chat window and hold
Ctrl while scrolling the middle mouse button to make the type larger or
smaller.
Anyone know any other little tricks?

I tend to use precise movement normally (Options/Settings.../General/Precise
Movement) but I see your point. Too bad numpad 5 doesn't slow down avatar
rotation. Precise rotation has been a major problem for me. I can do it
now without much trial and error but it's still labour intensive.
Hehe. You can lay down and half-bury yourself. How gruesome. That will be
handy next Halloween! Thanks, SW Comit!
Hey, here's a question. Occasionally I'll find myself in an "Al Gore"
mode -- stiff as a board. The whole avatar moves around at ground level but
doesn't show any walking movements (swinging arms, etc.). Restarting the
browser fixes it of course but does anyone know a simpler way to fix/avoid
it? (I'm not sure what causes it.)

I just wanted to express my appreciation to SW Comit for announcing this
feature in the newsgroups. I've been using it ever since and it is *very*
useful.
Moving in reverse (so you can view what's been rendered versus what hasn't
yet been rendered), it's convenient for hands-free exploring. You can eat a
sandwich with two hands while watching the world fly by!
Thanks, SW Comit!

Not a parable, but one of my favorite Deep Thoughts:
"If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my
holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy
said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started
laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's
right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody
would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering
iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink." --

"So, what makes a word bad? Only the person using the word."
Also, perhaps, the person interpreting, or deliberately misinterpreting, the
word.
I recall once using the word "peanut" in a absolutely innocent context.
Someone contrived offence to that particular word and threatened to tell the
authorities. Shocked that anyone could possibly interpret such an innocent
word as something vulgar, I began to understand that those who object to
language sometimes have an ulterior motive. Contriving offences can be a
means of enlisting authorities in an arbitrary, mean-spirited assault.
Thankfully, that strategy is transparent to mature adults.
With all due respect to parents trying to ease their children into this
modern and unfortunately vulgar world, please understand that there are
those who pretend to side with you, not because they care about your
children, but because they're desperate to find fault with others.
You'd rarely find me using bad words, even in X-rated environments among
adults, simply because they carry little meaning. They carry the most
meaning within the minds of those who wish to contrive offence.
With Respect,
Jim1
