Working, yet undocumented action command: Cursor (Community)
Working, yet undocumented action command: Cursor // Community
Jun 2, 2005, 11:22pm
While looking around aworld.exe (build 567) in a hex editor, I noticed a
section of plain text containing the names of all of the action triggers
and commands (create, activate, move, rotate, etc). They all looked
pretty normal, except for one. The word "cursor" was among them, so
naturally, I decided to play around with that.
I found out that the Cursor command turns on/off your mousr cursor. For
example, I made an object with "activate cursor on" in the Action field.
When in mouse move mode, I clicked it, and it took me out of mouse mode.
But this doesn't seem to work the other way around. "activate cursor
off" does not put you into mouse mode if you're not in it.
....and while I'm at it, I found a couple other interesting things. I saw
the words "seq" and "sdone" among the block of triggers and actions. Any
AWI programmers care to elaborate on those? They seem to have no effect.

Intresting finds, but are you sure your meant to be hex editing around
aworld.exe? You could be accused of cracking X_X
The cursor feature is undocumented as it seems likley it was just for
some AWI Made/sponsered "3D Website" that used cursor functions to hide
it and such.. thats my theory of some sort anyway

Nothing wrong with hex editing a file. They'd be idiots to try and do
anything about it. They'd get laughed out of court.

Yeah, I was just looking around in the EXE. I don't really know anything
about actual EXE hacking/cracking anyways. I'm just curious =P

"activate cursor off" wouldnt realy be a command because its allways "on"
but what "activate cursor on" does is just turn your cursor back to its
normal state

Hey, thanks DeltaPHC! I can use this.
I often need to orient an avatar very accurately.
I first orient a long thin panel like pp31t_h.rwx to the exact heading then
sight along its thin edge.
In mouse mode the bullseye brightens when directly over the thin edge.
With "activate cursor on" in the panel, all I have to do then is click out
of mouse mode and fly away!
Thanks!

If anyone haven't noticed, cursor is as old as 1996 and probably 1995.
Please see
http://web.archive.org/web/19961108100600/http://www.worlds.net/activeworlds/Theactiv.html#Building%20with%20the%20Active%20Worlds%20Browser
for more info (scroll down to see where it provides information about
cursor).
Apparently Worlds Inc. has them in reference but Circle of
Fire/Activeworlds.com Inc./Activeworlds Corp./Activeworlds Inc. has failed
to include it as part of reference at www.activeworlds.com
Talk about an omission. ;)
Sincerely,
Omission Expert
