I was thinking it would be cool if there was a large collection of documents
related to AW, all pooled together to form "The AW Library".

Current, SW City has something like this, though most of the books on there
would only interest SW City folks I would imagine. However some of the
books are for everyone, like the guides. Here's the library:
http://www.swcity.net/files/library.htm and you place it on a bookshelf
object with the target=aw_3d command at the end.

I'd be willing to make another library for AW in general if people send me
things to put on there. Like resources and guides for builders/modeling or
whatever is relevant to AW, as well as AW related stories and other things
of interest. Then you could sit in your virtual living room and read a
"book" :P

I think an AW Wiki is in order, just need someone to configure all the
wiki-softwareness and then there'll be a central AW info database =O

There is already an AW Wiki. Go here:

Yes, but not a wiki for specific things within AW.
But anyway...you wouldn't put guides and building resources within a wiki,
for example. The library and wiki are totally different ideas.

I was gonna do a Wiki, but I couldn't find any Wiki softwares with
sufficiently restricted access on editing.

Not really. An AW wiki would allow people to add ideas to the building
guides, or allow other SW City folks to contribute to the SW City Lore
entries. Sounds like a good idea to me!

i am going to consider on maybe hosting a wiki, just for fun.. i will
look into it. i seen that wikipedia is using mediawiki, so of course it
would be using that, so it stays intact with the same type of thing as
wikipedia.

[View Quote] I had the same problem. Get one of those compressed air cans at Radio Shack
and blast the crumbs out from under the keys.

I thought someone in one of these AW newsgroups already started an
AW-specific Wiki not long ago.
Sorry I lost the link. Please repost!

No it wasn't a Wiki, it was just an entry in wikipedia.

Anyways I've always been a fan of pmwiki. Anyone can edit it if they have
the password, or you can let anyone edit it and it saves backups of the page
so if someone vandals it you can just restore the previous page and ban the
ip that vandaled it.

Are you sure? I may be wrong but I seem to remember being surprised that it
was independent of Wiki proper. I lost the link due to a hard drive crash.
Sorry.

Nothing was under the keys; problem solved too, I have a new keyboard :)

There is, but just the name itself, it's in the wikipedia site. I will
look into it this week, it isnt a big of a hassle to install. Read the docs.

I guess I was thinking of http://activeworlds.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page
but it looks like that hasn't evolved at all.

Actually, I don't understand why that was even created when
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Worlds already exists.

"Wiki" is the name for the type of system that Wikipedia uses, not an
abbreviation for Wikipedia itself. Wikipedia is so called because it
uses wiki software.
