I find facers to be a touch ugly personally. I like multi-paned sprite
objects, such as tbtree010 in alphaworld. For example, take that and put
'create texture birch2 mask=birch2m' on it and sink it down a bit. Not
toooo bad IMO ;D

Most all 3d apps run your hardware to 100% because it wants to run as fast
as it can ;)
They've added a frame rat cap awhile back, but I'm not sure if it actually
works or not. Try setting max fps to something much much lower.

A lot of lag is the fault of the builders though. There are plenty of
instances where you can get great frame rate in detailed areas. I wrote up

The solidly trick is perhaps the most minor of technique listed. It's mostly
for high poly-objects like trees. And even then, it's mostly only helpful
for users with a slow CPU (as it's not a video card related issue). #2 and
#9 on the list will yield the biggest performance gains.

Here's some news :D

I compared the performances between 3.6 and 4.1 in the exact same areas,
same settings. 4.1 comes out 25% faster. Guess they did some work under
the hood.

Yea that'd be pretty spiff. In the meantime though, you can already create
the same grass system that modern top end PC games use like Oblivion. Just
create a nice looking grass sprite (eg
http://www.swcity.net/tex/flora1.gif), and put it a 2d picture object (like
in alphaworld that'd be pictwll2.rwx). Then just build a bunch and put them
in a star pattern, and some at lower angles and have them blowing around
using rotate commands. Then just select that whole cluster and dupe it all
around. Only downside is that its high in the object count.

Add to the trigger ",move 0 -9 time=0 wait=desired duration".
That'll move the trigger object outa the way (9 meters down anyway, which is
probably underground. Adjust as needed), and move it back later.

lol you shouldn't need to justify the wish so much. 200m is pretty short in
today's world. I too have built a number of environments where due to their
nature, even slower computers can run 200m there. I'd sure be nice if the
max vis could be scaled all the way up to render engine's hard limit of
1200m. Not that many people would be running in the several hundreds but its
always good to have the option there for the future.

Hmmm I'm not totally sure, but didn't they start the clock that supports it
in December of 2000? That would be about 240 days max or such. What do you
do, just leave it on or something?

Proxy Server

Hey, I just got a new computer, but I'm still using this one for the
internet. Anyone know how to get AW to work with proxy? I set everything
up and I can browse the internet, but AW won't log in. I went into AW's
settings and set up the proxy there too (for HTTP).

I was just looking over the help files for AW 3.2 and it said they added a
new simple mode because some people complained the AW browser was too
complicated. Did anyone here think the browser was too complicated when
they were new? I didn't, personaly... Those complainers were most likely
talking about building =0

Improvement Poll

I was reading Brant article at awnews.com that AW is doing just fine. So I
was just thinking about it and anyway, what do people want?

1. General software improvements - pretty much all the stuff in the
wishlist and the stuff on Eep's website.

or

2. AWCom management as in community and organization relations, events, and
public world management.

Personally, I would go with the last part of 2. I've built in Alphaworld
since I first started AW many years back and I rarely see any big
improvements.
