Hi
I was just thinking how I was curious to know some aspects about people in AW. 1. How did you find out about AW? 2. Why did you join? What triggered your registering as a citizen? 3. How long have you remained a citizen? 4. What is the best feature of AW for you? 5. What have you created in AW? 6. What activities do you enjoy in AW? Just had some curiousity about these aspects :) Anyone care to respond? CoLor CuriousMay 6, 2006, 5:27pm
Hehe I was trying to be shy. Well here are my answers too.
1. How did you find out about AW? ---A friend of mine showed us the program. She got us in AW then quickly we were in, I think, her own trial world. I made that location as home entrance right away, so then I never realized that AWGate was the entrance world or that AW gz were separate places until much later. We chatted in her world & then I tried building. 2. Why did you join? What triggered your registering as a citizen? ---As soon as I learned your builds would not be deleted by others and you could join a friend by a click, and because for $20 it sure wasnt a turn down. I had to do it by mail so I waited anxiously for those two weeks. Checking the mail each day. 3. How long have you remained a citizen? ---I joined in April 1999. And Ive introduced friends from textbased chat to AW and they joined too. Although its harder now for friends to join, since some of them are on disability and cant afford the cit. 4. What is the best feature of AW for you? ---The BUILDING!!!! I LOVE IT!! For me the avatars are just something to use. But I love creating landscapes. My first builds as a tourist were very frustrating. I attempted them on my own and just couldnt get them to fit right. I tried hard then quit coming to AW very much. I just couldnt understand why my other friends(the ones from a 2D chat) were still in AW ALLLLLLLL the time. So I came back to AW & one of them showed me a few necessary tricks on how to build to make things fit. Then I got ADDICTED to building. 5. What have you created in AW? ---My first builds were a school in AW and a tiny house in a friends city. Ive done some landscaping, hills, valleys and small attempts at villages in them. Lighthouses, gardens, waterfalls, lakes, caves etc. all in AW world. What I like about building is when you look at your old builds you can see your skills progress. I've learned a lot from the Building Geniuses in AW who participate in the birthday builds & AW School teachers who helped me with my questions. I still hate making roofs. But I love decorating with flowers & trees. I'm forever grateful to tunablues for his trees!! I like building to make realistic landscapes. I was inspired by Mt.Bob when I first saw it I was amazed. 6. What activities do you enjoy in AW? ---Building. I like building with a few close friends in AW, sometimes building side by side. I love the Easter & Christmas Hunts! I wish there were more of those! Its too long of a wait between hunts :) I also love exploring AW world with friends as we find new or old unique builds. Chatting in AW/AWGate is ok, but for me I use a faster 2D-text based chat program, for when Im in that mood. I like being a Gatekeeper and helping people tho. I did bingo for a while but not into that right now. [View Quote] [View Quote] Growing Up AWstyleMay 5, 2006, 12:23am
Wow great interesting replies to my Curious post. Now this triggers more
questions! How about the young ones that found AW while they were kids and teenagers and remained in AW til they moved into adulthood? 1. How did AW affect your growing years? 2. What role did AW citizenship take in your social life, virtual and physical world? 3. Did it enhance your relationships in your location or what aspects significantly affected your development? 4.What did you gain or lose being a kid/teen growing up with AW experiences in your childhood? 5. Being online and in AW, among adults and teens, how did this influence or touch your lives? An RL part of the Community..May 11, 2006, 10:53pm
Congratulations!!!

If they are like me and using a nasty old worn out computer, still on windows
95, they will be shut out of AW completely, according to the rumor I heard. Unfortunately, Im not able to upgrade windows on this computer & cant afford a new computer, due to family crisis. I guess I'll end up shut out of AW? [View Quote] > Lets see how many people it brings in on the day. > [View Quote] contactsJun 3, 2006, 9:22pm
Contact List: IF we are required to request permission from each person we
want to add to our new contact list, (after the new version has wiped out the old list) then we will lose contact with friends, who are on vacation or away from AW for a period of time, while still keeping their citizenship. We wont see if they arrive online to say hi to them. Everyone has a close circle of best friends and a wider circle of casual friends and an even larger circle of acquaintances. All of which you can add to your list and deal with using the current options(online status or blocking grams etc). It might be easy to gain approval to put a person on your new contact list from close friends, but from the others it will be hard to get it when you rarely see them online at the same time. Also how will we know if they recieve the request for approval or if they denied it? For those friends that like to change nicknames or spellings, it might be hard to get their exact current nickname to request. As for blocking, People DO need to block people they do not run into on AW. Unwanted telegrams of an ugly nature is a form of harrassment. And this is a good option for those who use it to make sure a nasty person doesnt send them harrassing telegrams. Blocking access and requiring permission for things such as joining someone or file transfers are a necessary feature. CoLor [View Quote] > We can certianly hope on the add blocked contact, though I did not see > anything like that, yet. > > Karten > [View Quote] Able to replyJun 10, 2006, 3:46pm
Sorry, But we ARE responsible for how we cause others to feel by results of our
own actions/words. But it is also within our own power to remove ourselves from future abuse by blocking people/abuse. I do not agree that people should be given an excuse to abuse others through their words by blaming the victim. We are not alone on this earth. Our words have a great effect for the good or the bad. We do affect each other and it is our responsibility to own up to the results of our actions/words. Too many people in this world today want to blame the victim, instead of the person who caused the difficulty. [View Quote] > No one can make u feel anything. Cy Awards Voting:
I dont know if there are people out there like me or not. But I have been locked out of AW since Memorial Day weekend. I use the worst computer around (Windows 95, very low RAM/resources, 11yrs old, older version of AW 3.1, I think). I couldnt even upgrade to the last version prior to 4.1. Since the new version came out, at one point, it totally locked me out. I have been locked out since it required me to upgrade & this system cant do it. But I do wish I could vote for the Cys. I have no ability to go to the AWcommunity world to whisper to some bot. Is there a webpage method to do it without getting something from the bot in the world? CoLor CyVoteJun 11, 2006, 1:00am
by the way ... Im a woman. not a HE. Also, what I was asking was about a
webpage access to give my vote for the CY since Im locked out of the AW program. I'd like to cast at least one vote for a person I know is nominated and deserves recognition for some great artistic achievements. Yes you were "on me" about my computer. And Yes Lady Nitehawk is right, my
question was only about the voting. However since you seem to think money grows on trees and everyone can just buy a computer like a snack item. I am not able to get a new computer or even upgrade this one. And if I did get any money it would go towards a flight to go see my sister, who is suffering a relapse of her cancer, and who lives states away. Dont bother replying to this. Im not going to come to the newsgroup. I am under enough stress as it is than to read some unpleasant stuff online. CoLor [View Quote] > Sorry LNH, not on her at all. Privacy Features:
As some of you will learn as you grow older in life, some people are wonderful, still others are nice, and some no matter how nice you are, are NOT nice. For these few mean people, blocking their ability to send you harrassing telegrams or see your online status is a good feature. Why would anyone care if someone wants to block their status or telegrams? Seems to me its a personal choice and a good feature. CoLor [View Quote] > I honestly don't trust people with all the privacy features turned on. > Either you're a hermit and hate people (why are you on a social program > then!?!?) or have poor social skills and have made a huge batch of > enemies, or have poor communication skills with your friends and can't > tell them "I'm busy right now" > > People tell me "I need them, I have people that harass me!
