Cy Awards Voting:
I dont know if there are people out there like me or not. But I have been locked out of AW since Memorial Day weekend. I use the worst computer around (Windows 95, very low RAM/resources, 11yrs old, older version of AW 3.1, I think). I couldnt even upgrade to the last version prior to 4.1. Since the new version came out, at one point, it totally locked me out. I have been locked out since it required me to upgrade & this system cant do it. But I do wish I could vote for the Cys. I have no ability to go to the AWcommunity world to whisper to some bot. Is there a webpage method to do it without getting something from the bot in the world? CoLor sweetsJun 10, 2006, 5:25pm
well I am still at 3.6....and nominated....We plan moving on the 12th.....I
did ask the CY to maybe put off the voting for a week, giving us all time to get over, make repairs, time for people to see builds (long list), and others to get connected in order to vote.....but it was knocked down with a 'can't do'....whatever their reasons are, they are not good enough, considering this huge move. Tunablues dropped by 3.6 to try giving me passwords as the CY bot was not, and maybe still isn't, even running anymore in 3.6. Twice these passwords did not work. Wish you luck CoLor...but to put it mildly, heh we are screwed Thank you (you know who) for the nominations....award or no award, you made me feel like a winner! : ) sweets tengelJun 10, 2006, 5:38pm
Sweet, you should know that could be many reason that it doesn'tt accept
you, one of them is that, if you doest allow cookies, you can't login, so you might think the password doest work. System it self works, so long you allow cookies. About Cy bot, it does give you new password every time you click on the sign, but you always have to use the latest it did gave you, as it overwrite your old one as soon you request a new one by click the sign at the GZ. Also, as you mention in earlier post, that Cy bot was't runnin for days, was also very wrong, as it has runnin daily since it started. But not 2 next days after nomination was done, as it was no reason for it, but at that time Cyawards world was closed. [View Quote] sweetsJun 10, 2006, 7:37pm
When I went to Cyworld before the move the bot gave me passwords, and they
worked, so I guess I accepted cookies fine then. When nominations closed, the Cybot was gone, so I could not change the 'description' of what I was nominated for, or supply screenshots of the builds. Tunablues came to 3.6 and gave me a password ....cybot was still not running in 3.6....twice the passwords did not work, I accepted cookies.... As I see it now at 3.6 there is no longer even a Cyworld on my list....nor is there, of course, a cybot here.... Anyway no matter....I have gotten the green light to get on with the show, finally. So hopefully will be there soon, worlds and all.....I just feel sorry for the others, like CoLor, and other users, that got a bum deal. Everyone talks community, but when you have 'lost' a part of your community, you would think they would postpone, even just a week, the only real 'community event'.... sweets tengelJun 10, 2006, 7:48pm
Hi sweets, sorry for the spelling of your name, but your 'description' you
can do until voting starts, and this moment, 15 min left to do so. About Color and his win 95, I feel sorry for that he still use that, but you come to a end where upgrade is necessary, not just for AW but also for his security. So far I know even Microsoft has stop supporting that OS, so soon or later he has to upgrade his system or get a new one. nothing last forever. Tengel [View Quote] baroJun 10, 2006, 8:04pm
If only one person is vocally upset and having issues with the way the
CY's are run, I think you guys must be doing a pretty good job. sweetsJun 10, 2006, 8:20pm
Well I tried....all it wants to do is stay 'connecting to'...so, well, guess
I didn't make that 15 minute deadline LOL I failed....I am not patient....I am ready to quit already heh sweets ezekietteJun 10, 2006, 10:22pm
I'm shocked that you would make such an outrageous claim Mark!
Remember: I'm watching you *squints and falls off chair* Rock on sweets :) Ez [View Quote] ezekietteJun 10, 2006, 10:25pm

CoLor,
To enter active worlds 4.1 you must be running a NT based system. like NT, 2000, or XP. all other windows OS's can't enter it. I resently upgraded to XP due to this. I was on 98 se before and it coudl not enter. [View Quote] colorJun 11, 2006, 1:00am
by the way ... Im a woman. not a HE. Also, what I was asking was about a
webpage access to give my vote for the CY since Im locked out of the AW program. I'd like to cast at least one vote for a person I know is nominated and deserves recognition for some great artistic achievements. to give me passwords for the web page without having to go through cyworld or be at aw....sorry...it didn't work.... maybe he has fixed it up by now....I havent heard a word since.... good luck sweets sweetsJun 11, 2006, 1:37am
ooops sorry ...LOL don't think you were talking to me....I think I made you
sexually neutral even though I did think you were a guy.....nice of you to clear that up LMAO sweets sweetsJun 11, 2006, 1:40am
I really do wish I could keep quiet.....but we all know that is impossible
LMAO sweets sweetsJun 11, 2006, 1:46am
Well, certainly NOT ActiveWorlds....that would make way too many people
happy LOL.....quit for the day, give up for now, I give up..... And I gave up....and quit....and gave up again....and quit again....and swore...and stomped feet.....threw things at the wall...quit again.....and then.....GOT THE WORLDS RUNNING!!!....sort of : ) I am a quitter....put I am a persistent quitter when it comes to AW.....LMAO sweets talisanJun 11, 2006, 2:03am
Actually CoLor, you are not locked out at all. Be honest, you are making
yourself locked out by using obsolete technology that even Microsoft does not support, or very limitedly does. They stopped supporting Win95 a long time ago, and they announced they would not support 98 or ME quite a while back, but extended that support for an unspecified time. Personally, I have never been happier since I upgraded to XP... and 2000. I have seen so few blue screens of death since then. Granted, there was a learning curve, but it's been a great success for me. I have 5 oem copies of XP(3 home, 2 pro) and 1 oem copy of 2000. only 80 to 120 dollars a piece when I bought hardware with them at www.mwave.com but I know some will think that was expensive. It wasn't. I do meet people every day at work that expect thier old Pentium 133 to still work today and be fast and be able to still buy software off the shelf at Bestbuy.... but they are living in a fantasy world. Computers are not like black and white TV's. My Uncle still has a P133... I go over there and he wonders why his high speed internet connection is so slow... with its 64Mb of memory... and his 10gb hard drive is making such a clicking racket as the swap file gets filled with crap. Might I suggest a subscription to PC Magazine, Windows Magazine or any of the PC/Mac trade magazines? Educate yourself on the market and see how the future is coming faster than you think. Owning a computer IS a duel edged sword.... it's good and evil all wrapped up into one package. You are not buying a toaster! Activeworlds was gonna die... yet some folks here were holding onto the past as if they couldn't live with out it. This upgrade, though rather poorly timed, was the kick in the ass we all needed. Activeworlds WILL live on for a couple of more years yet, and I am hoping for a lot longer. Depends on you really... and other folks making that decision collectively. I agree with Sweets that this was an awful time for the 4.1 upgrade in relation to the Cys, but at the same time I completely disagree with her that the Cy's needs to change its agenda in order to accomodate her or anyone not capable of getting into AW4.1 due to their lack of technological savvy. Ultimately, each individual is responsible for themselves, and blaiming the other guy is NOT going to cut it or be acceptable. [View Quote] data26Jun 11, 2006, 2:12am
Thats the first thing i noticed about XP. no blue screen of deaths.
I also love the system restore feature just incase you mess sosmething up you can rewind your system to a earlyer date and time before the problem was created. I also love that remote assistance feature. [View Quote] simplaza.netJun 11, 2006, 9:49am
They could at least reopen a small AW 1.1 universe for us Windows 3.11

I'm not sure why you all are on about her windoze ... her question was
webpage related. I also couldn't log in CoLoR, seems that when you vote you have to get a new pw but you do have to do that in world which I agree is a pita. Also, logging in is cookie dependant I believe. If you refused the cookie (which I did cause I think cookies are rude) then you can't get back in after the initial entry to the site. I tried everything yesterday to get in to vote (deleted IE cookies, blocks, cache, cleared history, refreshed, you name it LOL) but I couldn't get into the site from my computer, even with staff help .... no go. I had someone else cast me vote, hopefully that's legit, it'll hafta do since I couldn't get in myself. LNH [View Quote] talisanJun 11, 2006, 3:56pm
Sorry LNH, not on her at all. Was not my intention to do that, but I know it
sounded like it. I hope she and everyone else can get on to Cy's as well as AW. colorJun 11, 2006, 4:14pm
Yes you were "on me" about my computer. And Yes Lady Nitehawk is right, my
question was only about the voting. However since you seem to think money grows on trees and everyone can just buy a computer like a snack item. I am not able to get a new computer or even upgrade this one. And if I did get any money it would go towards a flight to go see my sister, who is suffering a relapse of her cancer, and who lives states away. Dont bother replying to this. Im not going to come to the newsgroup. I am under enough stress as it is than to read some unpleasant stuff online. CoLor [View Quote] > Sorry LNH, not on her at all. Thanks for the guilt trip. However I don't see how your personal life plays
into it. I did not ask you to buy a new machine at all. I'm glad your priorities are straight. rossyfox oJun 11, 2006, 6:35pm
You go to the webpage after you've gotten the password from in-world.
The voting itself isn't done by bot. If you trust someone else enough to use your citizenship, or if you could have access to an XP computer for a while, you could enter Cyawards world. It only takes a moment to click the star, and once the bot's given you your password, you can note it down and vote on the webpage at your convenience. [View Quote] |
