Wow great interesting replies to my Curious post. Now this triggers more
questions! How about the young ones that found AW while they were kids and teenagers and remained in AW til they moved into adulthood? 1. How did AW affect your growing years? 2. What role did AW citizenship take in your social life, virtual and physical world? 3. Did it enhance your relationships in your location or what aspects significantly affected your development? 4.What did you gain or lose being a kid/teen growing up with AW experiences in your childhood? 5. Being online and in AW, among adults and teens, how did this influence or touch your lives? sweMay 5, 2006, 11:55am
well, seeing how i joined when i was around 13 i think, guess this includes
me! :) 1.Well, for the year i was addicted to it, turned me into a shy loner. i got over that though thankfully. but got to a point of so bad that i couldn't even look people in the eye much anymore. other then that, didn't really affect me, but definatly turned me into a bit of a computer geek. 2.Other then my year of being a loner, nothing. real-life fun/social stuff, always comes first. 3.Nope, just made me more shy then i already was. 4.Well, gained some computer knowledge i guess, and lost nothing really. was either AW, or watching TV, and i think i managed to balance those 2 quite well. Oh, homework and studying, lost that, but ever since 2nd grade, was never too big on either. 5.Didn't really, though in AW i might hang around with people far younger and far older then me with no problems, in real-life i wouldn't. well, maybe with someone who's 2 years younger, or 4 years older, sure, but wouldn't be talking to 14yr olds, and wouldn't be as open with 40 yr olds. So, as for real-life, AW barely influenced anything. -SWE [View Quote] strike rapierMay 5, 2006, 2:53pm

I was almost 9 when I discovered AW and I turn 15 on Saturday so I guess
I can answer this. > 1. How did AW affect your growing years? Well, I learned SW lingo and used that in RL O_O LOL It actually matured me in a way, I learned new words/vocabulary, etc. > 2. What role did AW citizenship take in your social life, virtual and > physical world? Over the years, I spent most of my time actually ON Active Worlds so my social life basically jumped off a cliff and that's where it is now - the bottom ^_^ It surely didn't help my baseball talents by sitting on my rear clicking and typing for hours and hours and hours either :D > 3. Did it enhance your relationships in your location or what aspects > significantly affected your development? No, it didn't enhance anything. Nothing really significantly affected my development. > 4.What did you gain or lose being a kid/teen growing up with AW > experiences in your childhood? I lost many friends that I wasn't able to do stuff with...basically lost a lot of time I could have used to learn new stuff, like live a "pre-teen life"... > 5. Being online and in AW, among adults and teens, how did this > influence or touch your lives? It touched me because I was able to meet so many people not only across the country, but across the world too. I thought that was amazing, and still do. Thanks for the awesome threads CoLor :) -Jaguar byteMay 7, 2006, 5:32am
I was 12 when I joined AW, I'm 21 now, so I have spent the good portion
of my teen years as a user of AW. So I will answer. :) > 1. How did AW affect your growing years? I wound up spending most of my time on AW in my younger years. > 2. What role did AW citizenship take in your social life, virtual and > physical world? In the virtual world I was VERY social, and knew lots of people. My real social life was the opposite. I didn't really care to interact with others at the time. > 3. Did it enhance your relationships in your location or what aspects > significantly affected your development? Well, I think it mostly affected me mentally in how I think and act to this day. It taught me to be a more creative thinker, and to view everything from different angles. > 4.What did you gain or lose being a kid/teen growing up with AW > experiences in your childhood? I gained programming skills and math skills from using AW. I remember a friend taught me the basics of trigonometry when I was only 14 years old. Something that stuck with me throughout my life. I would say AW is the main reason why I entered into the illustrious field of Electrical and Computer Engineering. :) > 5. Being online and in AW, among adults and teens, how did this > influence or touch your lives? I met quite a few mentors in AW, people who really helped nurture my talents and made sure I was growing up to be someone who could think for themself. |
