Woah nice new feature. // WishlistcarlbanksJul 1, 2002, 5:45pm
The "text over the heads" system has been replaced with a nicer-looking
system of comic-style chat balloons. Users will have "round" balloons, while bot names and text chat will appear in square bubbles. carlbanksJul 1, 2002, 5:46pm

I quite agree,
Can't wait for 3.4 <Dan> [Any time now 3.4 wil be out! *tap tap tap* any time now *tap tap tap*.........] [View Quote] grimbleJul 1, 2002, 6:11pm
Configurable I hope ... not everyone is as excited as some at the idea of AW
resembling a kiddies chat toy. Grims [View Quote] carlbanksJul 1, 2002, 6:15pm

sounds nice....looks nice..... but once you have it first thing you'll say
is.....can i shut it off..... WITH your chat in it, it pretty much kills the beautiful 3D window.....not bad for a couple of avatars talking but get in a GZ area and get people talking and wow...talk about clutter. IMHO Leo :) [View Quote] makiJul 1, 2002, 8:26pm

In Beta they say it isn't an option :(
But some beta testers already complained, so it might become an option before the final comes out. I hope it too, the old style names above heads was fine for me. [View Quote] kahJul 2, 2002, 12:36pm

It reminds me of Palace.
Note: For thoses of you who don't know what it is. It's a 2d graphical chat program done by Communitys.Com which went bankrupt and shut down in late 2000(what AW is trying to avoid). It was then picked up by the community in mid 2001. You can check it out a www.thepalace.com [View Quote] agent1Jul 2, 2002, 7:52pm
From a post to beta by Shamus:
"So far the biggest complaint with 3.4 is the new chat bubbles. As far as I can tell, everyone wants to disable it. This feature is probably going to be removed in the next beta." -Agent1 [View Quote] dionJul 2, 2002, 9:02pm
personally, I like it. I just want to be able to adjust opacity and color.
Perhaps that could be a world option. The user could decide rather he wants it or not and the world CT can adjust the baloon opacity and color (maybe texture, too?) for those who do allow it. It'd just be something neat that you could distinguish worlds by. :-D [View Quote] the derekJul 3, 2002, 5:00am
well the problem was, the servers used to be blazing expensive, and all you
had to do was use a fake address and youd have a working server... they didnt use credit cards. its not very good anymore. last time i checked they made it an in-browser thing instead of an app like AW. pretty kewl nonetheless [View Quote] slim smokeyJul 3, 2002, 4:40pm

Hi Kristy!
Another immigrant from Palace!! I was there for about six years and only this last December came back to AW. I still have my "palace", Barbara's Colorado, there --up and running! But, alas, I find as time goes on, I'm spending more and more time in AW, and less in Palace. While Palace does have it's attractions and advantages, I've been having so much fun with AW's 3d!! As for the bubbles, I'm looking forward to them. Confidentially, in AW, when there are a few or several people talking, and they're all together, I find the text above the heads somewhat difficult to read. I think after awhile, people will come to accept and like the speech bubbles. Now, if only we could customize the colors and visiblity, and change the shapes according to what we're saying --for instance: round bubbles for regular speech spikey bubbles for exclamation (Type an !at beginning of message-- !Help) square or rectangular for signs which remain on screen longer (Type a ^ at begginning of line-- ^BRB) and thought bubbles (Type a : at beginning of line-- :falling asleep) Regards, Barbara of Amberlin aka Barbara Eisner aka Barbarae (AW) aka Barbara© NC/BC (Palace) [View Quote] |
