Free Internet without Banners? // Wishlistfelix2001Apr 21, 2001, 3:03am
Guess what! If you get a free internet that has banners and make sure you
have a ppp log turned on (contact me for info on how to do this), you can clear the file C:\Windows\ppplog.txt and then connect. Disconnect, and look for a section that says something like: 2-28-2001 18:31:03.47 - Data 0008: 7d 23 c0 21 7d 21 7d 21 | Look after this point and keep looking down until you find something like briannaxxx at spinway.blah.blah . Gotta go hehe contact me for more info on how to do this tony mApr 21, 2001, 5:12pm
What does this have to do with AW?

Well, this has to do with AW in that I can't use AW without this. LOL

Actually, instead of ripping off a company that is trying to make an honest
buck, you could pay a dinky bit of money for a real ISP with a decently fast connection... -John [View Quote] john viperApr 24, 2001, 11:50pm
Down to $10 already?! Wow, maybe DSL prices will follow the same trend?

You think about it, pretty soon, DSL is going to be slow :)
I'm tlaking in Resedentail(spelling?) terms ;d [View Quote] agent1Apr 25, 2001, 7:12pm
Why would DSL get slower? As long as the ISP keeps upgrading their end to keep up with demand, there won't be any decrease from the user end. DSL doesn't work on the concept of nodes as far as I know. Each user connects directly to their ISP's server, don't they?

I beleive that most cable can already outpace DSL (according to pcpitstop's
internet connection tester, DSL is listed at speeds below cable's)...but anyways cable is the cheaper alternative also...just find a fast one... [View Quote] ananasAug 10, 2001, 8:15pm
AFAIK cable speed depends on the number of people that are using
the same link, whereas DSL is independant from that. Btw. : there is not one DSL speed, how much bandwidth they allow for one user depends very much on the provider. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ andrasAug 11, 2001, 2:31am

Disagree. Cable can upload with a much more limited speed than SDSL (no - I'm not talking the "cheap" ADSL connections). It is inherent to the cable technology that you can have a high speed download (carrier is around 200MHz) but your upload it much less (never exceeds 32 KBytes/sec) because it's carrier frequency is only 38 MHz or around.
With DSL - you can have a sychronous 1 MBits/sec bidirectional transfer speed. Andras j b e l lAug 11, 2001, 2:35am
However the DSL technology has already reached it's peak, or cap, and yet Cable Technology can grow to far exceed that of DSL.
