Lighting in Alphaworld (Community)
Lighting in Alphaworld // Communitysw comitFeb 6, 2005, 5:48pm
I log in and its all dark in AW. At first I was like "omg they screwed up
the lighting!", but then I noticed it was gradually getting brighter...a day night cycle perhaps? If so, pretty sweet! I was walking around the city and some other places and it's kinda interesting to see what it's like at "night". And it gives the light command a real purpose. Sooo if that is what your up to, AWI, keep it up. Change is always welcome ;D Just need a dynamic backdrop now, and a fix to the 8 light limit for Direct3D rendering so we can better light up the places. *pictures setting up big ol' stadium lights for construction sites at night* :P captain mad mikeFeb 6, 2005, 5:50pm
Yeah, this would look really cool if we didn't have the bright and sunny
winter backdrop in the sky and everything else be dark like night time. I think AlphaWorld good at night and I've been waiting to see alphaworld at night again, lit up as if it were night. -CMM [View Quote] sw comitFeb 6, 2005, 5:56pm
Dang wish it was darker for a little longer. Norlisk Island (my previous
thread) looks wicked at night. Its like a volcanic ash site O_O [View Quote] veraFeb 6, 2005, 6:12pm
try build with this ambient light dark like it's.......you can't do a
thing........ [View Quote] > I log in and its all dark in AW. You the one who said you can't build with the snow ground/backdrop either?
You'll get used to it.. >_< I built just fine in the darkness. -- Syntax SW City at AW 2217s 3610e www.swcity.net [View Quote] eepFeb 6, 2005, 6:56pm
Well, you can always build a bright light source near where you're building, but Second Life allows attaching light sources to your av so it makes it easier to build in total darkness.

AW has never had a day/night cycle as far as I know. And I really hope they
don't do it. People with older computers see absolute blackness when they look at the ground, no objects, nothing. I would think if they did put a day/night cycle, they would change the sky too. So I'm sure they are trying to fix problems they have run into recently. Using my Dell 2 Ghz. with 64 MB Video RAM, the darkness looks really bad. It's like wearing reall dark sun shades in an art gallery, what's the point? If you want a roll playing type setting world with day/night, just buy a world and put a bot in there. -Kenneth [View Quote] sw comitFeb 6, 2005, 8:00pm
Hmm sounds like the monitor to me, nothing to do with the computer itself.
I been there before with my old crappy Envision monitor =\ But on second though, a day night cycle with more backdrop changes and less ambient light changes would be better I guess. [View Quote] veraFeb 6, 2005, 8:17pm
Thanks guys.....an Syn can I borrow your glasses??? lol

Sunday, the lighting in AW went out, first with some flickering then total
blackness. Unfortunately it became impossible to continue the building I was doing. I sure hope they fix the problem immediately. AW has always been my favorite world to build in. The discussion imagining the lighting failure to be some day/night cycle is silly. AW has never had a day/night cycle, nor needs one, which would limit the building potential of this popular world. If one craves the atmosphere of a day/night cycle, visit one of the Role playing worlds which uses it. AW is a world where builders can group to build any time of day or night (in the REAL world) and its sunny sky is a great backdrop for the various creations people make. There was an IO message to all worlds last night that AW was having
technical difficulties and was working on the problems which affected some worlds, 3D homepages, and webpages. LNH -- [View Quote] sw chrisFeb 7, 2005, 1:11am
It may just be me, but _not_ having a day/night cycle limits building in AW.
I'd love to do builds that light up in interesting ways. Right now everything looks flat. [View Quote] sw comitFeb 7, 2005, 2:41am

Yeah it would be great if AW finally is having a day and night cycle.
Imagine all the possibilities now. [View Quote] rossyfox eFeb 8, 2005, 4:34pm
Ooooh sounds great I might just sign up for Second Life right now...
OH WAIT I FORGOT. They have that OVER 18S ONLY rule don't they? [View Quote] |
