Just a word about names people use for both textures and models. Some of us
have servers that are case sensetive, if you name a model Wall01 or Tree03
and zip it as such in object sets, some of us have to spend hours unzipping
those models and renaming the objects to all lowercase letters, because our
servers do not see Tree01 and tree01 as the same file name.
I've also noticed some objects named walk01.RWX the same problems result. A
windows server is not as case sensetive as a linex server.
I've also noticed alot of the Megapath and most of GandTech objects such as
the Borgs set are full of caps. A main reason for getting reason # 12152 or
reason # 7 server errors.

Rename is sufficient. The filename inside of the ZIP plays no role.
Andras has a rename program link on his tools page, I think rnameit
or so was the name.

If you set your ftp program to auto change the character case to lower case
will cure you having to spend hours performing a task that is down on auto
on uploading files.

Check your ftp program options, its amazing what you find..

We have used this for years.

[View Quote] That will not solve the problem of the embedded texture names :(

Whoops that's strange I thought I sent my reply yesterday, it just sent it
now as I logged back in.
and andras is right about his last reply which is not attached to this post,
also regarding someones response say rename the zip, I have tried renaming a
zipped object before and later unzipped it to find the rwx notepad file
inside is still named Walk01.RWX.

Run everything through multizip, that smallifies all filenames including the name inside
the zips.

A question along these lines -

I know of at least one world where they built using caps in the object
names, on a case insensitive webserver (upper/lower case didn't matter).
When they migrated to a *nix server, the object path was cleaned up for this
issue. However, the world contains MANY dead loads, due to upper/lower case
conflict. A tool to clean up trailing space errors, if it exists, would be
appreciated also. Is there any automated tool to clean up these problems?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

In article <3f11b4ba$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com>, mongo at alt.2600.comcrap

I wrote such a tool a couple years ago but I really don't remember what it
does, I remember writing it when WinMe decided all filenames should be
uppercase (7-8 thousands objects); from my web page description it should do
what you want, better check it out for yourself :)

I have the same uppercase kind of problem, though just rename the zip. The
object inside the zip, isn't a big of a role.

Please - let me clarify.

The problem doesn't exist in the object path. It exists in the object names
placed in the world. Previously, upper/lower case didn't matter, the
webserver spooled the objects out anyways. Now, the upper case in the
objects causes dead loads (triangles). I was hoping to find a tool, possibly
a bot or a Xelagot script, to check all objects in a world for lower case
object names, and convert if needed. Trailing spaces in object names are
causing some load errors also. Again, any help would be appreciated.

[View Quote] You can save property and lowercase the propdump file. Many ways for that,
for instance in my PFE editor it is Edit - Text - Lowercase Selection.
Problem is, it would lowercase all the Description fields too, like sign texts :/

Trailing spaces are trickier, because you have to change the field length also (the 7th number).
That can be done manually from propdump file too, if you're in a masochist mood.
If some utility could parse the propdump into fields and calculate with them,
it could solve both trailing space and uppercase problems without messing descriptions...

(Maybe I should direct this to Worldbuilders)
