When I was young, my sister and I had to eat our Christmas dinner at a fold
out card table in the kitchen. We were told when we got older, we could sit
with the adults. We felt left out and couldn't wait until the time when we
could sit with our mom, dad, grandmother, uncle and aunt-the adults. It
would be sort of a day of acceptance and growth when that happened.

Before I was grown, my parents divorced and my mother moved us across the
country. Now, I eat Christmas dinner without my mother, father, sister,
aunt and uncle and my grandmother is dead. My sister and I never saw the
day when we were together eating with the adults.

I will not TOLERATE children being pushed out of this community newsgroup
for the reason that their problems are separate from here, do not matter or
belong to be aired in a different newsgroup-whatever technical label you've
put on shoving them out of here or out of your hair. We accept them and
listen to their problems-after all, we were once them. If you don't agree,
quite frankly, you need to re-evaluate your definition of what community
really is.

Since I can't tell who it is you're directing your comments to, I'll
just have to assume it was directed at me, since I seem to be one of the
few people who brought it up in the first place...

This has nothing to do with age or being "shoved out". I never said that
"children", as you call them (yes, I was a teenager once too, and if
there's one thing we disliked more than anything, it was being
considered "children"), could never post here. I simply said they can't
post about things which only pertain to one small sector of the
community (AWTeen). I would give the same response if someone,
regardless of age, posted about some internal Gor squabble or SW City
argument or (heaven forbid) another NewYork/Broadway slap-fight. The
point is, this whole event has been contained within a singular place
(in this case, AWTeen). If this was something else that affected the
*entire* AW community (i.e. What if Facter was fired under the same
conditions as XelNaga?), or if something happened in AWTeen that could
potentially affect the rest of the community (for instance, the
vandalism of AWTeen GZ), *then* it would be suitable for this newsgroup.
However, because this was strictly a PR issue internal to AWTeen, it has
no bearing whatsoever on the rest of the community and should not be in
the community NG.

AWTeen is fortunate in that it has its own newsgroup where people can
discuss AWTeen topics. One of the benefits of this is that things that
only concern AWTeen will be seen by those who want to see it, and other
people who don't want to see it will know what to stay away from. But
when it starts leaking into other unrelated NGs, that's when things get
out of hand. This whole thing would be fine in General Discussion, but
not in community, since it doesn't pertain to the entire community. Read
the Community Newsgroup Charter, it's in there. (Where's Tony M when you
need him? :P)

Yes, we were them once, but how many remember what that means?

this group is for stuff about the greater community, not one in
particular... AWTeen has been provided with an official newsgroup,
news://andras.net/AW.AWTeen, which they can use for those extremely
AWTeen-specific debates. it's not pushing them out generally, it's asking
them nicely to please take the big row to their own group so that they don't
flood this group with stuff many don't care about... too bad you never got
to sit with the adults :-((, but this is far from the same thing... they
can discuss other stuff here, but this big XelNaga row is not of most
people's interest (I don't see what the big deal about it is, he could just
have accepted the fault he did and remember to be more carefull with such
statements in the future... but no, he had to make a fuss about it, at the
end downright asking Brant to fire him... it's XelNaga's fault, if he hadn't
been foolish he'd probably still been in AWTeen core anyway)

I totally disagree with your comment about "the greater community" and I
refer you to the community charter (which I have posted).

No, the community doesn't want to hear about most of this AWTeen specific
stuff. If they did they'd either head to the General Discussion (where this
belongs) or the AWTeen newsgroups (which is more appropriate). As long as
they follow the rules we'll accept their posts.. (and by rules I mean the
ones specifically set up for it, not a charter you made).

Conflict about AWTeen pertains to all of us and the Active Worlds community
in general. It meets the criteria of the charter so you have absolutely no
right to tell AW kids to post their comments elsewhere.

Listen up kids, you are welcome to dine at the table with the adults
anytime.

If they follow the rules of course they can, as you said, aw community in
*general*. Had this had been posted in *General* Discussion then there
would be no trouble, and this should've been in AWTeen's newsgroup since it
was set up for exactly this problem. Community pertains to everyone, not
just a select group and if anything bad happens in AWTeen, it doesn't really
effect any of the non-AWTeen goers.

SW City arguement? We never argue. :-)

Heck, I visit AWTeen regularly, but something about AWTeen isn't community
related, plain and simple. An ad to visit an AW event addressed to the
community is fine every once in a while (so long as it's not binary), but
that's the extent of it. AWTeen's actions are AWTeen's, we don't discuss
Alphaworld here, we shouldn't discuss AWTeen. I'm a teen, and I'm vehemently
opposed to the idea that since there's hundreds of you little sprouts, you
can ruin a perfectly good community group by talking about petty fights.
We're here to talk about 3.3, AWC, things that affect the entire AW
community, not something as annoying as teen problems. gross...

Yup, yup.

I've stayed out of this so far, but I have to say my piece now.

Let's put this in perspective for a moment:
I'm pretty sure a large number of folks in here don't even know which world
I own. So, if I was having problems with people in my world, would any of
them be concerned about that?

Highly doubtful.

If I were in fact having problems, I would do my best to keep it under
wraps, and otherwise try to maintain the most positive public image I could.
Drawing attention to the negative aspects of one's world is, IMHO, not the
best way to advertise. All you'd end up with is a large influx of people
who thrive on discord and conflict - Public Enemy #1 when it comes to
successfully running a public world.

I don't give two..ahhh...*poops* about anything that goes down in AWTeen.
It's just another world among hundreds of others, no matter who's in charge
or who sponsors it.

Wash your dirty laundry somewhere else.

ever been to AWTeen? doubt it... you wouldn't like it if all sorts of
AWTeeners came in here and went about... just check out
news://andras.net/AW.AWTeen it's organized chaos... until now we've been
blessed to only have intelligent conversations about AWTeen in here, but now
it's getting stupid, who cares if XelNaga was fired because he was doing a
bad job???? we're not interested in having a small group of powersick
kiddies spamming this NG with crap! We're not rejecting them as posters,
we're rejecting an especially silly debate that just spams this NG!! What
you're saying is that we should just have let The Trio From NY Hell gone
about the Broadway/NY feuid in here, they'd still be waging their war if
there hadn't been for massive resistance from the rest of the users of the
NG, you know! gee, there's no big deal, if they wanna post anti-Brant crap,
they can do it somewhere else!

I love how debates about wasting space in the NGs and what should be here or
not usualy end up taking up more space than the initial argument.
