cybernome // User SearchHere's a great Idea for a wishNov 3, 1998, 4:32pm
Hello all, The Cybernome here with (at least I believe so...) a great
Idea. And I think it can be done now. Using a bot for interactivity with other users instead of using it as a seperate entity. Now for those of you who dont get what I mean by this..here's an example... Wouldnt it be great is you could use a sort of control applet...for using virtual money, or transfering it between users using the bot as a creditcard interface (instead of a bot using an Av of say butch...it would be invisible but the usage of the bot would be with you where ever you go). So you could say, pay a builder on the spot for helping you with a place you want to make. Just get your "credit bot" to interact with the contractors bot to transfer the credit . Like having a virtual wallet & ATM machine all in one. Or...if your away...you could have your "control interface" ( the bot) in place of you...telling folks that you just ran to go pee or get a sandwhich. It could even work as an answering machine of sorts...having it programmed to TAKE A MESSAGE...From: Me :) ....then it would forward you an email or something to let you know later. I'm am currently working on this..a bot that acts as an AW interface. To make a Bot Appear as you so that you could control things around you also allowing other to see what happening..instead of the "you only see it happen" deals existing now. Bots can control objects and run script...Why not have it your main control. You could even do voice generation that way...Typing to the bot...then the bot generating what you just said...but as you ...not the bot. Alot of the things on the wishlist could possibly be done in this manner. I am also using this same bot for gaming...keeping control of player stats, encounters and database stuff..while playing. For this game I got running called Shadowrun...I'm using this "technology" to track players...and to update a website this information goes to in real time. So players can goto the site as see immediatly what others are doing or to just pull up there bot to see their own progress. Give me some feedback on this..cuz I really think it could work...Let me know your opinions...at cybernome at earthlink.net Also ..interesting in role playing....The Shadowrun 3D game is in beta testing right now..and the site is still under construction...but feel free to check it and even bookmark for later updates on what going on. www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/thinktank/8155 Want to see whats going on so far with the game...Come to Cyberville in Metatropolis... at COFmeta 61n 301e Head Mounted Display (HDM) in active worlds ?Nov 16, 1998, 1:41pm
Currently I am also working on the use of HMD's for AW. I have found so far
the Virtual I/O glasses have given the best results. It has a SDK driver for use specifically for the windows95 & 98 platform. It also allows use of mouse emulation and setup of hot keys. This basically means that the Virtual I/O can be used now for AW. But.....and there always seems to be a but, there are some drawbacks to the Virtual I/O and AW's use of it. *1st off...The Virtual I/O's only work in 640x480 res. which to me really suxs *2nd AW does not currently have a full screen mode which would be needed for best results... *and 3rd If you use the Virtual I/O's...you cant use the mouse at the same time in AW..which keeps you from selecting or activating things that need the mouse input. As part of my current research, I have been incorporating the use of the SDK to make a driver that will at least allow use of the mouse and Virtual I/O's at the same time and use of a joystick also. Hello fellow chummers..
Now your probably wondering whats goin on in the world of shadowrun to date. Well this y2k thing (now that its mostly over and ppl can relax a bit) has kept me REALLY busy lately but do not fret shadowstalkers cuz here's what ready to commence. 1.) Shadowrun Players Meeting will be held this saturday 8, 2000 at 7:00pm VRT. The meeting will cover the credit system and how to trade credits cuz E-Bank will be open January 12. This means the GAMING WILL START THAT DAY. So be sure if possible to come to the meeting. I will have a transcript made of the meeting but if you have questions it would be better if you came. 2.) Just to make it official January 12, 2000 the E-Bank of Metatropolis will open its doors to the public. 3.) ALL players will be gettin an new assignment sheet (new to all even if ya already got one) Since the first set of player registered are mostly gamemasters You will receive assignments first. Then the rest of the regular players. This sheet (well email) will list your new passcodes and stats along with website stat updates and additional playing guide info. 4.) And lastly. I want to thank all of those that nominated me for the Cy Awards again..I really do appriciate it. Maybe this time I'll win one 8-) "Yeah and monkeys will fly out of my butt I guess eh? ..LOL" One more thing...I realize things have been running slowly from the start. But this is a testing/Setup Phase and frankly, I've never wanted to do something this cool so bad. And the fact that I havent been able to start it yet make ME probably more crazy than the players..but pleeeese bare with me a bit more...we are almost there and you have to admit...this will be one hellava game once it gets goin. So chin up chummers..Things are about to get very interesting.. MPL Cybernome "Fear is the mind killer..." Dune Ok. Here's whats going on so far.Jan 4, 2000, 8:41pm

I think the proposal is a great idea but I have to admit, I side with
rehabber on the practicality of it. For $5 million, you could incorporate, create the software, distribute, and have some of the best minds in the vr community working closely with you for 5 million dollars ( <--- say like Richard Pryor in Brewster's Millions...LOL). You do bring up a very important and crucial points about AWLD as a company. They are very unstable right now. And have been for quite sometime. Now for those of you who like to nitpick ...this is not a blow on the personnel although you may wonder sometimes...but of the company as a whole. If those numbers are close to correct...I see the indications of a dying company. If AWLD is that vunerable stock wise, then is a matter of time before that get a knockout blow. Now of course they could get a prize winning project that could change this inevitable fact, but it still comes down to management. I think I can agree with Eep for prior post he's had about concerns for AWLD's "Delivery" of Activeworlds technology to the netizens of the net. Its' seems so lacking in that comparing to other technologies and companies in the same fields, AW falls behind everytime and in every category. Ask yourself this question. Why is it that in lue of the major employment of new meat into the AW fold, that business it still in a stagnate state? You would figure that you'd induct new employees to speed up production, better quality management, increase profit intake. Has anyone seen any (and I stress this) "Major" changes in the functionality and incorporation of updated technology into AW? So big deal you get a mouselook option now. Ohh and we can't forget fog and fake directional lighting. I know I'm on a rant but this very thread is a good example of why I pretty much left AW as a viable e-commerce environment. Why would I stick with dos when windows does it so much better?...get my drift. Now don't get me wrong. I don't hate or dispise AW or its employees. But I do dispise a product ...that I pay for no less...that is so outdated. Thats why I use Norton's instead of FirstAid. Why I use Windows 98 instead of 3.1. Why I like to play Counterstrike and Quake3 more than Doom and Duke Nukem. So I'm complaining..You tend to do that after you've been let down for so long. Blaxxun, in use, sucks compared to AW..but harbors so many more functions and newer technology. If the two where to merge, I think everyone here would pop a nut... 8-) I do think that gathering a team of willing artist, programmers and business persons into a system of harmony to create a product that blows the doors off AW would be the most practical approach. If you can't beat them...you don't nessesarily have to join them. You can just flat out class them. I have taken upon myself to try this very feat. In the works, is a new service I'm creating called "The Lazernet Nexus". It will come to be what AW has failed for to long. A practical, fun, entertaining, intense, immersive, and most of all "Evolving with current technology" community offering the latest in VR environments Peripheral interfacing, and communication technology. The business plan is in the final stages and a team is on its way to being assembled. Details and job opportunites will become available soon. I think VR is on a revolutionary track to become what it was intended to be......Mainstream. But it will only happen if ppl like you join together to make it happen. If not...you can stick with good ol dossy AW...while all the other places become the new Quake3's and Half-lifes and everyone sends threads to complain about it and not do anything. This was my $.02 ...and a $1.50 addition 8-) Cybernome www.lazerstore.com "Remember your unique. Just like everyone else" Proposal: The Dream TeamDec 14, 2000, 1:50am
Well as the saying goes..."Proof is in the pudding!"
I dont really think getting rid of AW is the problem too. They are a business like all the other online ecommerce sites. But I intended to show that without real direct competition in the VR communities market (since most will agree not much matches up to AW unfortunaely) they become a Microsoft putting out mediocre software and crappy customer service, and is in no way, close to what it could be in a more fuller competitive market. Someone needs to keep them on there toes, but its got to be from outside the loop of aw community cuz think about it, "who in there right mind running a business would stop taking money from ppl even though they were willingly screwing them and the ppl kept giving them money." People come to the newsgroups and post up their complaints (and if you notice there are alot of them) and only a little bit gets done. Now this isnt some thing thats been happening recently. This situation has been occuring since AW 2.0. An improvement here and there...taking forever to get done. And I understand their side too cuz I run a company as well and know the rigors of keeping the peace. But WAIT ...there's more .. 8-) To top if off, with no company to give AWCI a run for their money, to make them make the software better and leaner for quality competition against other businesses who could jepordize their sales, they continue to be super sloths....see what I'm gettin at folks? This is the main reason AW is the way it is. I know ..."well what about Blaxxun...or Virtual Places..or even 3D Travler. Or even the AW derivatives....OuterWorlds (excellent place by the way), Vectorscape, Fandom...or City4All etc. Well they are all good companies dont get me wrong and give AW really *Decent* competition community wise... but technologically wait..humm....How many average joes have even heard of these othere places let alone Activeworlds. I mean AW barely advertises at all....but now that I think about it ..neither do any of the other places. So the market continues to stay stagnate and underground (How are businesses going to make virtual reality a mainstream icon to the masses if the masses dont even know it exist). We the consumers still get nothing but "Half-Ass" software ...and we keep taking it like it was bad tasting medicine but granny said its good for you. "No it Ain't!!!". but I've blasted enough. So the big question is... "What is the solution to these growing complaints. Answer: Dream team, Conglomerate....what ever..."A directly competitve business" that will compete with AW to wake them up. It you wanted anything in life...or ever dreamed for something big to happen regarding this disconcerting problem.....ASK FOR THAT!!!! Cybernome www.lazerstore.com "Remember your unique. Just like everyone else" > Wouldn't know,, haven't seen it...would like to though.. > [View Quote] > Proposal: The Dream TeamDec 14, 2000, 4:02pm
I kinda figured it was happening (the problems and holdups) since earlier
than version 2.0 ..But it wasn't till that point I even gave a crap about it. With a track record like that it kinda makes ya wonder. We're at 3.0 now...I been hearing alot of talk about 3.1 and its supposed new features. Question: Does anyone think this is goin to amout to a hill of beans? I don't. The new features that are being added are ones that "could have been" integrated a few versions ago. Eep you may know the answer to this one... Why is it that the renderware engine has so many options and features it can use yet AW refuses to integrate them? For example, fullscreen and vr peripheral interfacing. The make of the browser and client -server control is a bit better since the ealier versions of AW but still seems so cumbersome compaired to the actual way Renderware does it. Is there a reason for this? (Stupid question I know) But inquiring minds want to know. Also, I agree the 3D gaming market is propelling the technology at an exponential rate. Yet it's still a step outside the vr community environment. 3D gaming has already hit mainstream and is growing which is a great help to the vr market in general. At the same time it is hindering it to a degree. 3D games are great, entertaining and in some cases educational. But very limited in practically of its market to anything other than those things I mentioned. True virtual reality on the other hand ...in what I consider pure virtual environments where business, communications, technical support and training...even engineering and medical visualization could be more prominent. This is the environment that will be the determining factor of the life and prosperity of VR. I say this about 3D gamming cuz ppl have a tendency to autolabel just about everything. Its a natural thing and everyone does it...from the criminal minded to the most strict of religous faith. This tendency makes everything else related to virtual environments look seemingly like the 3D gaming market. And since gaming is the mainstream, pure vr is looked at simply as another gaming environment in general. The fact of this is that, pure VR which would revolutionize the web and the interactivity with it and even its accessibility (interfacing with data, breaking language barriers, increasing the use of commerce and the efficiency of it all, constantly gets shunned as a practical viable resource. I guess it's just the way things are but pretty much all out sucks. Praise those who continually define the new uses of VR. Praise those that fight on a regular basis for the evolution revolution of VR to come. Praise those that complain and explain one of the most misunderstood and underused technologies on the planet. VR is here to stay but now we are at a point of figuring out what to do with it. Praise those that do figure it out. - Just another rant but an important one. Hello netizens!!!
(Holds up shield to deflect on-coming stones 8-) I'm posting in this newsgroup to alleviate some past concerns and rumors that have been floating around about a project I'm currently working on. For those of you who don't know me, I'm known as Cybernome. I use to be caretaker of COFmeta (the once again dead world of eternal night), not that is matters much anymore. For the past few years I have been working on a VR project that has now become known as the "Nexus Portal Infrastructure Project". This project is being developed in hopes of creating a more updated and feature-rich virtual reality browser similar to AW but far more advanced. As anyone would guess, developing a project such as this takes lots of time and manpower to make it work as well as finances to get whatever is needed. In my recent endeavors to see this project to production, I have encountered many obstacles in my path. All seemingly intent on keeping me from completing this project. Well let me finish that statement with (Naah, nah , nah ,nah ,Naaahhhh). You cannot stop the inevitable. And it is fate as well as necessity that brought this project into being. So with great pleasure I would like to announce that I have been able to succeed in seeing this project ready for production. I have also hooked up with some serious investors that will help to bring this system to market. So for all of you that thought it could never be, or that I would never make this project happen, Wake Up!!! cause AW is about to meet its match. Now I need to get some things straight. I'm not doing this to get any awards, to be a millionaire, or to even win fame. So get that out of your minds right now. For those who know me, know I'm am far from that line of thinking. My main intention is to create a system that will allow greater diversity of features along with a more efficient yet powerful interface for the Net and its many, many, many features. I wished for years that AW would have done this as did many or you readers (and they ,by all rights, could have...but I'm not flaming. Just an observation.) Anywho, I feel that we have, as a community, been driven to stay with mediocre software that is at least 2 to 3 years behind current technology. Now not that this is so horrible that I would (like some it seems) get on the NG's and bust out the flame thrower. But I do feel it have not been addressed enough by the powers that be. Its like being stuck with not-so-great MS windows 95, and no option of getting Windows2000, Linux or BeOS. A market with little to no competition makes for a lazy company. I know AWC works their behinds off to keep their product up to par, but I'm a business owner and I know what it takes to make a successful product and from what I've been seeing in the past is the lack of competitive powers to force out better product (dealing with competition of AW with other VR multi-user systems). Even the most feature rich systems out now like Blaxxun, Superscape, Flatland, etc, still don't or can't directly compete with AW. Hence, there is no system in place to "MAKE" AW get better. So in a certain aspect, this project will have ample benefits to the VR community, not just in function alone. Starting in the beginning of September, I will begin running a new company called Altered Reality Studios. (Yes, I'm not with Lazer Store, Inc anymore for those who knew of me working there). I am focused on seeing a new technology come to pass called Conglomerating Technology. In short, this simply means the incorporation of many technologies to make one new one. The new system I'm developing will have the functionality of AW but will include ton's of features such as Full screen, text-to-speech and voice recognition, VR peripheral usage (datagloves, HMD's, force feedback devices, etc), custom AV's (for upper-level memberships), hardware acceleration, dynamic digitalwallet (for secure e-commerce and personal information storage), and many more. This will not be an eyecandy system by no means, but a practical yet very interactive and fun way to use the Internet on the personal and corporate levels. I'm am also integrating what's called Grid Computing into the Nexus system. This technology is used by many companies and organizations like Seti, Nasa, Boeing, DOD(Dept of Defense), Europe's Power Companies and even IBM. This part of the project looks to be a very thrilling addition to the system. What this tech does is to spread out computing power or "Cycling" through distributed systems. Ultimately this distributed computing model (use of allot of computers to do one or multiple functions) will allow the system to become faster and even more user friendly when more PC systems are connected into it. In turn, spreading out the computing power will allow older legacy style devices and system as well as the new hardware to use the system effectively regardless of geographical location or system restraints (bandwidth, CPU speed, etc.). Unlike the resource hogging setup AW uses, the Nexus system will increase in speed as more users connect into the system. Now this is where I ask for your help. "HELP!!!". I will post a URL to the website's forum covering this project by the end of the week. The forum will be open to anyone wanting to participate in this project, to put in you ideas, or just to add your $0.02. Either way, the more people involved in this project, the more efficient I can make the program. I can't stress enough the importance this project will make on the VR community. Things are really starting to accelerate and it's now just a matter of time before a tangible beta is ready for testing. Until then, hang in there just a little longer. The Knight in shining armor is about to make his début. Do you think AW's main problem is that there is no market competition for them? I'd like to hear your comments. Sup Facter 8-) !?!
Long time, no talk...lol. I will post the website URL for my new company and the Nexus Portal sometime this coming weekend. Within the next few weeks thereafter, I will be posting more and more information of the status of the project as well and concept drawings, decided layouts and themes as well as some 3d concept work. I'm really excited that this is all coming together because I think it will have huge benefits to the immediate VR community as well as the general internet population (eventually). Even the prospects of using neurotechnology in this project has arisen. Imagine interacting within a large virtual environment controlled simply by voice and thought. The medical and scientific communities could take alot of interest in it as well as the common end-user. Most of all, it will be a open-sourced project since so many other technologies will be involved to add even more growth to the system. So I will also definately have a forum board going cause every bit of input will be greatly appreciated. Hey GK!
Yeah, It was time to crawl out of my evil laboratory and let everyone know Frankenstein is alive and well...LOL. I know you have your doubts as do many others. But that's a good thing. The unknown always brings uncertainty. I, by no means, mean to put everything in from the get go. I really am smarter than that 8-p hehe. But here me when I say, all those features "Are" begin planned in the full version of the system. Also, shadowrun is by no means dead. It will be continued in an update version within the Nexus system. But when you are working with a partner that doesn't help "at all", it has a tendency to slow up progress. (Hence why I don't work for Lazer Store anymore). And as for the neurotech, its allot further than people know. Check out this system at http://www.ibva.com . This is a working model of the neuro unit for purchase now with an adapter for games and other apps. Not quite in consumer price range but a couple of years and Wa La. I did my homework on this one 8-) They are developing a newer one soon that will be smaller and I believe wireless/mobile version. And now that I am getting the proper funding (amazing what you can do when you can actually buy stuff), I will do all I can to not disappoint... *wink wink nudge nudge*. (Holds up palm of hand to face), there is way more to me than what is accustomed to on these threads. But hey that's fine, and your entitled to your "Opinion". Apparently, you don't know my level of determination. So all I will say for now is keep saying it. Keep doubting it. I want you too. Cause when I prove you wrong (and trust me, I will!! I've proved ample people wrong in AW for years now) then maybe...just maybe.. we will have something we can have faith in instead of waiting to jump on someone for saying something thats doesn't jive with the way of thinking and then not doing a damn thing about to make it better. (You got to give me props for at least trying to make a difference) instead of coming in here and just coulda woulda shoulda... 8-) . And yeah Me, Viper and Facter are friends...so what of it? I have hundreds more where they came from. Why ...don't you have friends that try to encourage and help you out. Come on people. Let get out of the Mid Evil crap, stop trying to burn folks at the stake and look to the future for once. -- Cybernome ----------------------------------------------------- "Notice how life is like a sport? Not trying to get defensive. Just telling it how it is. Just look back
through the post. Even Rick get's attacked and he did the same thing. Told it like it is. But aside from that, no gripes here. No harm, no flame. 8-). Just remember, I'm not doin this to beat anyone or hype anything. Competition is the best way to make AW better. Being a man of intelligence, you of all ppl should know that. I'm just acting as catalyst. -- Cybernome ----------------------------------------------------- "Posting can be harmful to your health" [View Quote] AW Ear beta testingAug 14, 2001, 8:30pm
Hiya Programmer!
Hey first off I'd like to say, "Nice Work" on the AW Ear prog. It works great and makes for a fun way to interact with AW. I have done a little looking into your prog and I think most ppl are having problems with it not from the programs end but with the sound cards and/or version of AW ppl are using. If I'm corect, if ppl are using AW 2.2 and AW Ear, they will have problems cuz 2.2 doesn't allow for multiple usuage of the sound card. It wasn't till AW 3.1 that they added multiple sound playback. So if AW 2.2 is using the sound card, AW Ear will not be heard (hence shutting off the sound in the browser allows AW Ear to work). Also, the sound card will not work correctly if it doesn't support Full-Duplexing. MS Agent works best on a full-duplexed sound card. This is just an observation but I do believe this is what most ppl (in those situations) are running into when they use AW Ear. Other than that....Kudos to you. Keep up the excellent work. Sup programmer!?!
You deserve the praise. Don't know about you but I've been waiting for 3 years for someone to write a text-speech prog for AW. Actually I do know why Windows2000 would have a problem with AW Ear. Since Win2000 is a derivative of the NT kernel, directX won't work as well as it will on Millennium(yuk) or Win95/98. Windows2000 and NT use openGL for its graphics acceleration. Since AW uses directsound for its sound porting (which is part of the DirectX drivers) it will continue to have problems in Win2000 or WinNT. Hope that helps somewhat. 8-) Cybernome ----------------------------------------------------- [View Quote] NexReality.com sit up soonAug 20, 2001, 9:55pm
