He's probably talking about someone in the "ex-gay" movement. Ex-gay
groups are usually conservative religious organisations that believe
homosexuals can change through the power of God and some crackpot
psychriatric methods.
The general opinion outside of ex-gay circles is that denying your
sexual orientation is mentally unhealthy.

For a while, I have been disappointed that there has been no good events
calendar for the users of Active Worlds to refer to. Recently, an idea
hit me... there's no reason why I can't start one of my own.

I would have liked this idea.
It wouldn't have been a bad idea.
But then, two things came into my mind.
1) This is a crisis that is _still in effect_. As in, we can still
help. Wasting time debating on how they could have done better and
building memorials won't help, save that for when its over.
2) I saw several advertisements for AWVR and AWE. I know you may want
to show off your cool stuff and let people experience the world better,
but is the memorial site the place to do it? I sincerely doubt it.

Well, a claim of non-profit can *help* in a fair use defense, but it's
still copyright infringement regardless of wether or not profit is made.
Consider: Rockstar own the rights to the models. They have the right to
*sell* usage rights. So, it could be argued that if they wanted to
charge for those rights, then simply taking their models, even for a
non-profit use that doesn't reduce game sales, is losing them money.

But you couldn't take Donald Duck and change him in 7 ways. That'd be a
derivative work.
So they would have to be entirely new models, not altered versions of
the converted ones.
