Where in AlphaWorld is this?

It has already been quite thoroughly explained why the Cy Awards cannot be continued by AlphaBit and Lady TeaL. Please refer back to AlphaBit's "The Cy Awards" (11-MAR-2005) post.

Strike Rapier has volunteered to maintain the awards program, and AlphaBit's explicit wish is for the "Cy" name to be discontinued.

[View Quote] > Seriously, why is the NG's being filled up with more unnessacart arguments As if Red nose day was not enough The Cys can exist, no thanks to pathetic telegrams from mindless idiots. Alpha, why take the bull? Ignore them, I would not be suprised if the telegrams were from little shits. And Strike, we don't need you making things worse by attacking AlphaBit with all sorts. AlphaBit, don't close the Cys, They can exist, just push away all the bullshit and negativity. Strike had some great ideas (Although they might as well be ignored now because of the excessive idiocy) and you have the support of many people.

The Cys can exist, without all the bull

Mar 12, 2005, 8:18pm
Why is it so stupid? The name "Cy", as she already explained, is connected to her. Why don't you simply let her end the program and keep the name which has become associated with her?

[View Quote] > Strike was going to continue it with a group, until Alpha was easily distracted by telegrams, so her reason for discontinuing the Cy name is very stupid.

Just a small clarification: By "keep the name", I did mean for AlphaBit to keep it.

You continue to misinterpret the reason behind the Cy Awards closing. Since you don't seem to actually want to read the post I referred to, I will quote the relevant portion for you:

---------------------------------------------------------
AlphaBitPhalpha posted:

Unfortunately, we will not be able to spend any time in "virtual" because of real life challenges.
There is no way Lady TeaL could possibly do all that is needed to see the Cys through with no training etc. She's fantastic, but not superwoman:)
The Cy Awards nominations this year were very weak in participation.
I think it's time they were laid to rest:)....no...I KNOW it.
Many times folks have told me that the Cys are linked to the AlphaBit Phalpha citizen. I think I finally realize that.
Lady TeaL and I are both in agreement, that the Cys will end as of this posting.

---------------------------------------------------------

You also seem to fail to understand the reasoning behind AlphaBit's wish to discontinue the "Cy Awards" name. The name in itself has become permanently associated with AlphaBit Alpha -- no matter who's actually in charge, everyone will still believe AlphaBit's behind it. Thus, if Strike's new group took over, AlphaBit will still receive telegrams/emails about it. She does not wish to have this, and thus she requests the name "Cy Awards" to not be used.

Logical, isn't it? You just have to think (and read).

[View Quote] > Shes closing it because of 'negative telegrams', and your saying she closed it because , to sum it all up in your own words, "A greedy bitch who wants the Cys to herself"?

TerraForge Public Stress Test

May 12, 2005, 9:23pm
I have recently completed a clone of the popular Demeter bot, "TerraForge", which allows non-caretakers to make use of terrain functionality.

TerraForge strives to remain compatible with behavior expected from Demeter so as to present a smooth transition for Demeter users to TerraForge. With noted exceptions, most of TerraForge's commands behave similar to Demeter's commands.

In order to properly assess TerraForge's ability to handle user stress, a public stress test is being run in the world "ziOn". All users (unfortunately except for tourists) are welcome to come into the world and play around with the bot.

This public beta will last one week, from 12 May 2005 (today) to 18 May 2005. During the first three days, public bots will not be permitted in the test. For the remaining four days, bots will be permitted.

After the stress testing period, TerraForge will become available for download.

Suggestions for TerraForge may be telegramed to me in ActiveWorlds.

Hope to see you in ziOn! Invite your friends and have a building party. ziOn is a P-30 world, and has been extended to 100 users by AWI for the duration of the test.

Xelagot 3.611 - terrain bugfix

May 25, 2005, 7:54pm
I've had this happen before. It's specific to Xelagot, and not the AW SDK.

It usually happens when Explorer crashes and X1 loses its tray icon. Since I can't restore it from the tray, it can't be safely shutdown since it tries to bring up a little "Do you wish to exit?" prompt.

In any Internet forum, you are expected to adhere to basic rules of common sense and etiquette. In a public setting like this, "those gor idiots" deserve the same level of respect that you would give to anyone else. (They are, after all, human just like you are and have emotions and feelings.)

This might help you refresh your etiquette: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html

You don't. Beta testers are selected by the developers as they see fit.

TerraForge is now live in AWTeen

TerraForge is now operating in AWTeen, as some of you may have already noticed. Bug reports and general suggestions should be submitted to the bugtracker at http://terraforge.chatrelaybot.info/bugs

Please be sure to read through the documentation at http://terraforge.chatrelaybot.info - especially the section on verbal commands.

TerraForge in AWTeen

(In the future, please submit TerraForge problem reports to the designated bug tracker: http://terraforge.chatrelaybot.info/bugs)

[View Quote] Being hit by three of Strike Rapier's Dem2Demeter bots and surviving that before its release into AWTeen, I'm fairly certain TerraForge can handle just one or two people with moderate terrain sessions.

> When I have a bunch of objects selected, with lotsa data (part of my calcualtor for example) and I put it where I want it, and click away to set it there, TerraForge randomly deletes half of the selection, and makes it unretrieveable. I have been lucky, and a) bot copied my calcualtor before, and b0 not been working on active parts (copying before I change around as an insureance to not mess up). This is really annoying, Also what happens is TerraForge sais: [TerraForge]: (to DaBean o) Welcome to awteen. You have access to the terrain editing system. Say 'd:begin' to edit terrain. right after. Which actually looks like I might be wrong rambling on about this because my bot sais I re-entered AWTeen (bounced) omg whats up?!?!

Looks like you solved your own problem, especially by your follow up post: you're flooding your connection to AWTeen. I myself have noticed some latency between TerraForge commands and their results.

You may want to consider Lord Fett's suggestion and work with less object selections at a single time. There is, in fact, a limit to the number of objects you can select (128). I'd suggest not going over about half that (64) in AWTeen.

When working with terrain, you may want to simply use the TerraForge commands to show/hide/delete markers to avoid flooding your own connection.

If you notice any reproducible issues with TerraForge, please be sure to submit them to the bugtracker. I've cluttered this group enough times with posts about TerraForge :)

Thanks,

Tony

TerraForge in AWTeen

Jun 11, 2005, 5:02pm
There aren't even any terrain markers belonging to DaBean in the area of that calculator. There's no reason for TerraForge to be doing anything to his property, since it's not terrain markers he's messing with.

[View Quote] > No, when it happens when using a bot, then the problem is definitely in the program, since deletions and builds are always issued sequentially (one after the other) and eg. the property dump/load use the very same methods - so there is no problem at all with deleting or building thousands of objects.

Pyro Goddess and Maddness Avatars

Jul 8, 2005, 4:52am
I don't know about anyone else, but I for one am getting sick and tired of this newsgroup being used as a chatlog repository whenever people get into disputes.

I understand that you may be having business difficulties and may want to warn people. Fine. Warn your friends via telegrams, but by posting this in a public forum you are certainly not helping anything. You are only damaging a business' reputation based on a single chat log, which is quite easy to fake.

This doesn't belong in the newsgroup. This belongs between you and Pyro Goddess, and possibly a court of law if you are so inclined.

You are not human. You place etiquette ("proper" language) over the whirlwind of emotions that occur when hearing the loss of a dear friend. And you expect *everyone* to have this same idiotic priority.

Read back the very first post by UberMonkey in this thread. And then maybe, if there's still any good in you, you can actually realize what you've just done.

As the Activeworld Turns....

Jul 18, 2005, 10:09pm
Here's another one I just found while looking through some of my old stuff; if I remember it correctly, this story was from a chain letter I received many thousands of years ago...

===============================================================================

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school.

His name was John.

It looked like he was carrying all of his books.

I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd."

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.

They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.

His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.

He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.

As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives."

He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!"

There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived.

As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.

We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books.

He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.

I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes.

We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know John, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was John with the huge stack of books again.

I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!"

He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, John and I became best friends.

When we were seniors, we began to think about college.

John decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke.

I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem.

He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship.

John was valedictorian of our class.

I teased him all the time about being a nerd.

He had to prepare a speech for graduation.

I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.

Graduation day, I saw John. He looked great.

He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school.

He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.

He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.

Boy, sometimes I was jealous.

Today was one of those days.

I could see that he was nervous about his speech.

So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!"

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.

"Thanks," he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began.

"Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends... I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met.

He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.

He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

"Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.."

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment.

I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse.

Sound >_<!

Jul 16, 2005, 9:17pm
When your system randomly reboots, it's almost always a hardware problem rather than a software problem. I would check critical components such as the power supply, CPU, etc. If it's not onboard, perhaps the sound card itself is now going out of comission?

It may also be faulty drivers -- have you tried updating the drivers for your sound card?

The current problem with the status page is that the "date" is always going to be the current date, and not the date when the page was last updated, which is misleading.

All good things must come to an end. I am letting my citizenship expire today.

I've had my fun in Active Worlds. Building in ziOn with Shred and Star. (who now owns her own world, Buterfly) is an experience I'll never forget. Shred and I have practically grown up with Active Worlds. All the bots I've created, all the buildings I've built, and all the themes I helped create in ziOn will always stay with me.

I'll stick around for a bit on an alternate citizenship, which will last until March of 2006.

I wish the best of luck to those who remain, and for the new users who immigrate.
