per avatar action disabling

Nov 25, 2003, 3:51pm
Some bots will eject ppl for flying and stuff you can sence avatar's
action's and state's you then just force ppl to do certain things so if
someone fly's they get sent there last location maybe unless there allowed
to fly until some proper aw inbuilt feature is added

New Idea For Tabs..

Apr 11, 2004, 11:56pm
instead of tabs what about redocking them and replacing them with somehting
simular to what they use in things like flash mx 2004 so you can show and
hide some or all or none

Event AwObjectCollide

Jun 6, 2004, 9:34pm
An event raised when ever someone collides with an object with a name or
with out a name.

The event would then send to the sdk object number and basic properties as
well as the avatar session name and location.

Why no play lists?

Jul 7, 2004, 2:10pm
Well weve managed to setup a live streaming TV station, simular to the ones
currently around with rotating images how ever, AW isnt able to support play
lists. Why is this and is there a reason it was not supported?

It would be very usful to support plays lists, how ever we have a tempery
work around. We setup 2 media servers, of which one streams from the other
server so AW would appear to be playing a constant feed.

Was a bit of a bummer since we had a complete ready to go TV station about 2
months back but we found AW didn't support all methods it could :)

Why no play lists?

Jul 7, 2004, 3:03pm
that wont work i need to be able to broadcast on the stream my live shows
recorded shows and ads. They need to be able to appear in any world in any
universe.

Why no play lists?

I could do but im still trying to get a remote host with more bandwidth
currently I dont have enough bandwidth for a mass load of users.

Why no play lists?

Jul 8, 2004, 7:24pm
No you dont get the point. Im not using stupid AVI files im using a proper
stream server. With Play list support. _AW_ doesn't support play lists

<Quote from http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw36/media_command.html>
The media command enables media player functionality within a scene for
playback of local- and web-based media files, as well as broadcasted
streams. Supported are all file formats, supported by your installed version
of Windows Media Player, except play-lists. A list of supported media file
formats, for a users running WMP9, is here, not supported are Windows Media
metafiles (.asx, .wax, .wvx, .wmx, .wpl). Sign objects must be used to take
the video frames of the media. The media command has many optional
arguments:

Linux version

http://www.xeonsoft.co.uk/sm.jpg

Well the only thing that doesn't work is the web browser and media crashes,
though im sure that could be fixed if u try...

I use it in software rendering mode its not that slow.. though i haven't
bothered trying to get OpenGL working..

Other issues are when you select an object in building it really lags up and
stuff...

Linux version

Aug 29, 2004, 7:24pm
That is Fedora Core 1 i havent upgraded yet... using KDE and Wine

Linux version

Before you run the browser, open aworld.ini and locate.

mode=

change the mode to 2 to set it to software rendering mode and it should work
fine.

Fly/Shift

Mar 14, 2005, 5:04am
I've heard rumors about these becoming rights rather than just tick boxes
but there is problems about backwards compatibility. So possiblely we keep
the tick boxes and then have rights which give you the reverse effect of the
tick box. For example, If fly is enabled but you place 337680 in the rights
box I wouldn't be able to fly; however if fly was disabled then I would be
able to fly?

If something like this possible for 4.0?

Fly/Shift

Mar 15, 2005, 9:58am
Well the problem is older browsers, I mean my webservers logs still show AW
3.4 Build 498 in use? Unless the world server identified who the person was
and send the attributes value depending on who they were?

3.3 is just pathetic 3.4 atleast you can see most of the new world features.

Like rotating an object thats off its central point but you can do it with
any object. You specify the coordinate to orbit around and off it will go.

AW for Linux

It bloody well does run though! you have to force it to use software
rendering mode in the INI first though!

AW for Linux

You have to set video=2 or what ever in the ini you have to disable media
url's and also you need to grab a few dll's from ur system32 directory and
stick them in wines virutal system32 directory.

Or you could just spend 5 minutes by turning off automatic restart find the
error which is probably an offending driver update it there you works fine
:)

See Strike a command line building interface is easily done with the SDK so
he could have it if he sat on his ass and coded it. An AW Client on the
other hand well all the best luck to him I doubt it will be completed before
AW bankrupt them selfs trying that project.

And even people with linux do actually have a windows machine as well so its
not exactly like thew demand a linux version to something.

Or alternatively you could just trim down windows, I dont see what your
major problems is I ran the current build on my previous machine which was
Athlon XP 2400+ 768MB RAM Windows XP Pro XP2

Why would you want onboard video that things got bloody 16x PCI Express dual
opterons would be accelent to drive it with Hyper Transport!

Hell my athlon 64 fx socket 939 which is basicly a single opteron drives an
AGP 8x graphics card to its limit! If i had money i would probably buy that
exact board and a pair of Geforce 6800's and use SLI!

Active Worlds & x64

May 20, 2005, 9:12pm
Do you reckon AW might actually do something useful and create a 64 bit
compile of AW? Or is such an idea above them?

Active Worlds & x64

May 24, 2005, 11:39am
Well put it this way I've seen reviews and tests and tried it my self, games
that have been recompiled for 64 bit have a huge perfomance boost in frame
rate or visibility and Farcry is an example you can download a patch to add
the 64 bit binary and compare the difference your self.

Nvidia already do the 64 bit graphics drivers so do ATi I think. So the
drivers are out there already, the operating system is out there all is
needed is 64 bit renderware which I think will be quite likely to be out
there soon and then for AW to do a 64 bit binary.

64 Bit is not just for servers and mission critical processing its also
geared to home entertainment for high quality video and audio such as
cinematography and 3d rendering.

It also would be easier to do a 64 bit binary then to rewrite the whole of
the client to have linux support for which I tell people over and over runs
fine using WINE anyway, stop bitching about a linux specific client if you
ever want to see a new version in the next 5 years cause AW would have to
start over and rewrite half the client.

Thing is you could do much more advanced terrain details you could actually
make each cell curve to the next rather than having terrain such large
squares because the processing power to calculate these things would be
there.

Socket 754 single memory controller and Socket 939/940 Dual Memory
controllers with a bandwidth of 6.4gb/sec.

AMD also have Hyper transport runs at 1ghz and really speeds things up and
lowers bottle necks.

Not to mention the 64 Bit O/S can now use terrabytes of memory 32 bit runs
out at about 4GB, when your using alot of detailed textures & models its
easy to run out of memory. But this isn't going to affect AW much since its
mainly lowres.

The AMD64/EMT64 architectures are designed to run x86 software just as well
as an x86 chip if not better, thing is the chips how so much more power to
offer.
