Industrial Building Contest
There is still time to enter the contest! This year's theme in =
Industrial. Like previous years, SW City likes to pick unique themes =
instead something like residential, which has been done time and time =
again. As industrial is a rarely used theme throughout AW, the =
experience field should be pretty level. Players will pick a lot in =
Hyokia Industrial Sector.

For players who have no idea how to build industry in AW, they are =
encouraged to explore the nearby industrial areas, as well as teleports =
to other industrial sectors in SW City. Judging and specific rules can =
be found at the site itself.

Wow.. what a bash that was. Probably the best turn out of all the Birthday
Bashes yet. We had over 100 people visit during the two day event. I would
like to thank everyone for coming and I hope to see even more people out
next year for the 7th Birthday. :)

I use OpenGL video mode (because directx mode is absolutely atrocious on
this laptop) and have recently been fixing up some old areas of mine in
Alphaworld. I stumbled across a old building that a friend of mine made and
he has two light sources with the following code:

1. create animate me led1. 1 1 0, light color=red brightness=100 radius=10
fx=blink

and

2. create animate me led1. 1 1 0, light color=red brightness=100 radius=10
fx=fire

In OpenGL mode, these lights are not restricted by max world light radius or
the radius=10 command. The brightness on these lights stretch as far as max
visibility can stretch. These lights ruin the area I have been fixing up.

If you want to check this out, go into OpenGL mode and head to AW 2153.07S
3763.34E 0.40a 101. Blinkin' lights every-which-way.

The GET could not modify the light sources because the GET member on duty at
the time was in DirectX mode (which this light bug is not affected by) and
could not see the problem.

Therefore all lights at brightness=100+ should be dealt with. There's no
reason to have a light that bright anyway. Brightness=10 is too bright as
well. Even brightness=3. Both shine over the max set radius limit.

This light is runing my area im trying to fix up. :-\

Good news.. everything is back online and SEEMS to be in working order. I'm
sure we will find a few kinks to straighten out in the coming days.

The forums are also up and are working well again.. Thanks to SW Chris for
getting that all fixed up.

Anyway.. hope to see all the regulars back there. :D Sorry for the huge
inconvenience. :\

Ferruccio and I were discussing possible solutions to a problem that may be
hurting the community's new and incoming population.

Apparently, there is a steady flow of newcomers always joining into Active
Worlds but there's no way of them to integrate themselves into the existing
community body. Thus, they only stick around a few weeks and miss out on
what Active Worlds has to offer. We came up with an idea of having a
Universal Chat Channel that anyone logged into Active Worlds could join into
and talk.

This would solve a few problems:

1. Newbies wanting help could easily get it by asking in the Universal
channel.
2. People could contact PK's easier.
3. People could advertise their events and projects in the chat window.

I'm sure there's more benefits.
