Yea, heh, don't switch vid cards, One because the only thing better then a
GeForce 4 MX for 3D games is the GeForce 4 Ti 4600, and Two because DirectX 8 on AW is just REALLY buggy, I've gotten bizzare things with it too. All ActiveWorlds Hackers Finally Gone!Aug 23, 2002, 5:20pm
The only way i believe to "Get rid" of hackers, is to form a nice
relationship with them. Instead of banning them, or trying to stop them, which will only make them mad, AW should try to contact them and work out some sort of deal. Maybe even pay them to "hack" into AW, and point out the holes. Hackers are not evil, and the "good hacker" position it being taken by many companies, even Lego released documents on their micro computer(called RCX), so that hackers could more easily manipulate it. The results of such an action? Lego got more money from all teh hackers who bought parts. Not bad eh? So a good relationship with hackers could benefit AW...no more cit stealing, no more "bad hackers", and with less disruption to teh AW comunity, more people will stay, and this means more money for AW. The cost of paying these hackers will be no fee at all for the benefits AW will receive. Problems with activeworldsSep 12, 2002, 3:02am
That isn't how you do it, your suppose to go to your local arts and craft
store, buy tons of those weird magnet things you put on fridges, go home, stick all of them on the computer, maybe even toss a couple under the cover. Outlook and AW will never cause you any more trouble ;-) [View Quote] AlertMay 30, 2001, 12:06am
This is a possilbe world theft alert. My world(Billy!) is being hosted by
someone who is not suppose to. Only two people have the password and settings to my world, one i know is not hosting, the other is not on AW at this moment. If ANYBODY has the power to contact AW Server HQ ASAP, please do so, tell them to cut the connection with whom ever is hosting on my go, just in case that someone who is hosting has stoped and my world is back to normal. Either way, this is possibly a world theft and hack. I want as many people as possible contacting EVERYBODY about this. Thank you. AlertMay 31, 2001, 12:59am
Ok, here is how it goes. My world is back and running. I did contact PKs,
including Baron. MY pass was changed and I did contact AWCOM. I wanted everyone to talk about this cause if AW ends up with 1000000 in their email box, BOY are they going to do something. So this not only was a way to get my world back in order, but a way to stop the hack who has been doing this. I have learned from one of the replys to my message this happend to them, so I would suggest an alert of a hacker or virus. Most likely a virus, being that a hacker would take more then a single pass. Well I'm not pointing figures or saying "BOMB!" on a plane, but this is a precaution we must take all you world owners. Annoying bugMar 8, 2002, 3:24am
This is no offense to the maker of ActiveWorlds, it is a good peice of
software, and no remake has been completed YET. It's one in a million. But besides that it has SERIUOS memory problems. I don't get illegal ops anymore, but ALL of my icons get switched around. It starts accessing memory it shouldn't. My friend has to format his comp every couple of months because of AW's problems. I don't think it's becuase AW has memory leaks, but rather it trys to use other app's memory, heh, which i guess avoids memory leaks for IT, hehe. My gut feeling is that it's teleporting cache. You know how you can go back and forward with your teleports. I don't know, i just think that is probably what it is. That would explain why it only dies when AW has been running for awhile....cause the teleport list just keeps growing. Handling the mass amount of object info has GOT to be a painful task too. Anyway, that is just all that i think. Aw 3.2Aug 29, 2001, 11:57pm
It seems all good, until you get to the Transparant problem. I really don't
think I will use it if there are problems with rendering objects. We NEED masks. If we can't use them, then you have to replace masked textures with complex objects......no one has time for that. Also, 200 meters of visiblity! Who has a computer that can render a scene with that many objects? I don't.....I can't even go above 40. Someone with an AMD and a GeForce card might be able to get 10 FPS from it....I don't know, maybe not even that.......It would be cool if you could see 24FPS with 200m visiblity, but for now that ain't happening. AW Techs, don't increase Visiblity until you make a 3d engine that has NO lose of speed and is writen in ASM. Or until better computers come out. RPGFeb 15, 2002, 2:46am
I am creating a new bot. I will not go into any details about it. But I
would like to know if anyone knows any good fantasy races. Races like Elves, Dwarfs, ect....So far I have Human,Orc,Elf,Goblin,Troll,Dwarf,Hobit,Ogre,Fairy,Brownie,Ent. Does anyone have any to add? I'm trying to get to at least 15 of them. Thank You. RPGFeb 15, 2002, 8:40pm
Well, from what I can tell an orc, ogre and goblin are ALL different, no
matter how small the difference may be. A brownie is the smallest Human-Like race...they aren't really fairies. Tx goober king for those ideas...I'll add a couple of them. [View Quote] RPGFeb 15, 2002, 8:44pm
i wont have wizards, that will be one of the rules of my game...once again I
wont go into details of why. Imps....are....well.......small and stupid :) In Final Fantasy 1 they are just there to help you get your first experiance points. RPGFeb 15, 2002, 8:46pm
No, the bot wont be in VB. It is meant to handle LARGE amounts of data in a
LARGE world. The entire bot is in c++. Because other sections of the game are going to be more extensive the complexities of stats have been removed. Only the stats that are plainly required have been added. But thanks for offering to help. RPGFeb 15, 2002, 8:48pm
As I posted to another reply I wont include magic or things that pertain to
magic. I wont go into the reasons why. Yea....i kinda have my lips shut about this, but I want the project to be secret. RPGFeb 15, 2002, 8:49pm
Thank You all. I will look into the races I don't know and see if I like
them, and add the ones I forgot to add. RPGFeb 15, 2002, 8:53pm
In "Lord of The Rings" a halfling is another name for a hobit. I would think
a dark elf would be Orc(according to LOTR). RPGFeb 18, 2002, 11:35pm
not really. Orcs are elfs that were abused and mangled, and everything else
bad...so they are kinda a "Dark" Elf RPGFeb 18, 2002, 11:37pm
yea....not that powerful....they are kinda like teh "bugs" of the fantasy
world. RPGFeb 18, 2002, 11:39pm
Yea, i've done VB->C++ conversions...did it with my WAR bot......quite a bit
of work, but the best thing is that you can do it offline, cause you know that the code works(unless you have a typo). Alpha has got to goFeb 19, 2002, 10:55pm
Ok, first problem is, it would be the same as deleting "Not a Citizen"
builds.....Second is...I don't think you can get rid of AW, but a better solution would be a full delete....go to the server and reset the world, then rebuild GZ. But that comes with another problem...in seven years it would be in almost the exact same situation. See my point? Spy botFeb 23, 2002, 7:49pm
chris is right. It's just a bot and it's not a hack. As long as it doesn't
hurt people i doubt that anything is wrong with using it. Of course it's common sense to tell people what you are doing...maybe have the bot say "Your world is being scanned so it can be added to a search list. If you don't want to be on the search list please contact [botmaker]". We all learn lessons in life and I'm glad it was MrGrimm who first made this bot and not some other person, at least he knows what he is doing. So, let's put it this way...this was a test run....and the next bot will tell you what it's doing and then something else after that...it's called BETA testing. One person can't think of EVERYTHING, so give him a break. HUMOR ALERT - Signs You Live In The Year 2002Mar 2, 2002, 4:52am
Here's a common one for me:
You know you live in the year 2002 when you say LOL to someone instead of laughing. Ok, i don't do that....but i get close. Sponser?Mar 2, 2002, 4:45am
I have started a new project. Some of you have heard about it, but most
haven't. I am trying to keep it as secret as possible, so not much info is going to be directly posted, YET. I have worlds to test my bot and objects in, but no perminate world. The project is a new type of RPG. I have named it an RLF, Real-Life Fantasy. The new genre of games takes RPG games and puts them into your hands. These games include EverQuest, Ultima Online, and others. My game of course comes closer to the definition. :) One problem in it is that I need a BIG world to make it fun. It would be somewhat pointless in a small world. Not something i want my project to come to. I don't have money to pump into another world...or any world for that matter. And the kind of world I'm looking towards is a P-50 or P-100....like $1000+. So I have one option remaining. Sponsership. I need some kind hearted person, who also wants to attract vistors to their stuff :), to provide me with a world. I doubt that I will find such a world in AW, THUS I'm looking more towards an outside Universe for support. This accually helps tho. Becuase i believe this project will be interesting enough to attract citizens, thus boosting the Universes populatirty. And what does a universe owner have to provide? Little. Only a world, which costs them nothing, and strong hosting abilities, which the universe should already have. So in a buissness matter of things sponsering my project costs you nothing and gives you major results. There is little to lose. Short Version of message: I need a kind hearted universe owner to sponser my project. I need a P-50 or P-100 world with FULL hosting. Hosting needs to be as quick as flint to support my bot. The returns of hosting my project is User attraction. People will go to your universe looking to play my game and then will eventually begin to gain interest in the Universe that provided such kind help. Please assit. Thank you! P.S. If you ARE a universe owner and need more information you can contact me. Bill at vectracon.com but I will not give out very many details. This project is to be kept as undercover as possible. Sponser?Mar 2, 2002, 6:51pm
Two problems with AWC sponsership. One, i already have one projected
sponsered by them :) And Two....Last time i checked they had a project some what like what I have already sponsered....but the creator of the project seems to be dead or something :-\ Lugia CTF UpdateJul 16, 2002, 12:57am
dude, don't post replys like until you know what the heck you are replying
to. Lord Fett's PBL bot is not just PBL but also CTF. And DON'T you dare say "Oh, look, they changed one little thing, SOO much different." Lord Fett put more work into that bot then you would believe, so don't go off being mean to him. Lugia CTF UpdateJul 16, 2002, 1:36am
See? people don't read things and then reply to them...how do they even know
what they are replying to without reading it? beats me... "And DON'T you dare say "Oh, look, they changed one little thing, SOO much different." " Did you even read that? By what I see no, because you just did the exact thing. People can be so cruel sometimes, putting others down so far. Lugia CTF UpdateJul 16, 2002, 1:40am
No not really, Capture the Flag can also be other things. In Tribes it isn't
Paintball, and yet you still "Capture the Flag". But really what it comes down to is the most experienced world with the most features is the one that gets respect. Even those little changes are useful, because if you have the choice of playing in a world with them, and one without them, people will choose the one with the extra features. I suppose that sounds a bit non-individualistic, but hey, it happens :) Lugia CTF UpdateJul 16, 2002, 1:47am
Do it.....right now. If it is easy then make a bot with EVERY feature that
Lord Fett's bot has in ONE day. If you can do it, then you gain my respect and bragging rights, if not, then I insist that you stop what you are doing. |
