Just a thought....but last night I found out that in the past day and a half
over 400 new citizenships were started in DLP. Would they have closed down DLP to "catch up" with all those new cits and prevent system overload??? [View Quote] Dreamlatd park and Other uni'sJan 11, 2002, 9:54am

National ID SystemFeb 13, 2002, 9:21am
It is a nice idea to have something like this, however how will it deter
inner terrorism which has plagued the US for years??? Until recently we have been allowed to take pretty much whatever we wanted on airplanes. Of course that has changed drastically but there are still plenty of opportunities out there for terrorists that we have no control over. How often do we hear of Americans belonging to faction militant groups which are a threat to all that we stand for?? How much good will a couple of stupid assigned numbers be when a few people from that group play "kamakaze" and fly their American piper airplane into the white house? Right now we use our driver's licenses and our social security cards/numbers for ID in the states. Our SS numbers offer a way of tracking our employment history as far as the IRS is concerned. True not everyone has a driver's license. Not every state has a driver's license with a photo ID. In fact not every US resident has a SS #. Heck in the medical clinic I work in, I can't even begin to count how many people I've registered who are illegal aliens and use a family members SS#. They have no comprehension of why this is illegal. And I don't speak their language to be able to explain it to them either. How many times have we heard about people obtaining fake driver's licenses?? Is the US government that stupid?? Don't they realize people will find a way around this too??? It's only a matter of time before someone uses somebody else's ID or a fake one. Or possibly an illegal alien without one. Not to mention theft of these cards/numbers like so many SS#'s have been used after people die or in the case of ID theft. I certainly don't think this is a cure all. Sure it might help the IRS nab some of those illegal aliens working legit jobs in the states, but not much else. Our world is so complicated these days, I'm not sure there ever will be a "better" way to do it. ;-") [View Quote] new to newsgroups but..Jan 3, 2002, 10:42pm
I never responded to a news group before but once in a great while I
actually read some. Like most of you I too am in shock over what is being decided by the big brass of AW and not by a citizen vote, which would normally happen in a "community". We were NOT given the choice of upgrades and up until recently had the choice of whether or not to accept them when logging on to AW. Like some of you out there, my puter is an older model and I can't afford a new puter or the graphics cards to upgrade it. So every time I HAD to upgrade AW, it messed me up more and more. Finally in August I gave up on building. Especially since "someone" in management thought it would be cute to play with the weather in Alphaworlds and create night time and fog. Ever try to build in fog and the dark?????? Then a few times in Sept and Oct, AW wouldn't let me in at all for days at a time. Now recently some "genius" redesigned AW GAte to make it more attractive to the new folks. Ok, it's prettier. Got some giant eyeball things in there and several VR clocks, but is it worth the lag? You can't fly up past a certain altitude anymore to escape the lag, and shift is disabled. Instead of concentrating on creating new and bizarre shapes for AW gate, they should have put their imaginations to work on creating some new objects to use in alpha world. Were we as citizens given a choice in this???? NOOooo!! I have to admit it is really handy to be able to access the websites of some of the people on my contact list just by clicking on their names. However I don't have much need for all that, especially more than one visit to each website. Did I ask for that option?? Nooo. The main reason I stayed a citizen in AW for almost 3 years?? For the wonderful lifetime friends I made from all over the world. I don't have the ambition or the time to build anymore, so most of the little time I can spend in AW is spent in chatting with my friends and occasionally exploring. I average about 4 hours a week if I'm lucky, chatting on AW. Some weeks I can't devote any time to AW, though I want to. Since I don't have a social life, my leisure hours are spent in AW. It is my means to escape stress in RL like so many of the people there. I don't understand why we need all these upgrades or why AW needs so many employees. There are tons of people already in AW who have volunteered their time and services to help in many different ways. Why is the AW administration earning those top bucks and yet they are demanding such an impossible figure from lower middle class people like me who only earn $8.50 an hour and have bills to pay?????? There's something not right about all that. I feel awful for the folks living in other countries who are worse off financially than us here in the states. I feel terrible for the disabled folks who cannot get out and socialize like some of us, who are looking for friends and love and can only find it in a place such as AW. There they can walk, run, fly and do things they cannot do in real life with their disabilities. There they can be a normal average person. The deaf can hear there, the crippled can walk, the lonely can find love, and a child can build castles. All that for only $20 a year is more than worth it for a 3D chat program. Heck, I am willing to pay $60 a year for something like that. But I cannot afford over a hundred bucks for chatting only a few hours a week. It's not worth it to me and unfortunately not worth it to many citizens there. I once was a tourist for three weeks. It took me that long to figure out if it was worth paying 20 bucks a year for certain benefits. You need to give our tourists more than 2 weeks to decide if paying $120 bucks a year is worth the few benefits they will recieve. Like I said earlier, do we REALLY need the website links on our contact lists? Do we REALLY need weather changes? Does the AW administration REALLY need to earn so much money? AW will go down the drain if this plan goes through. People will leave in mass droves. People will tell their friends and family NOT to go to Active Worlds or anything owned or operated by Active Worlds, including Dreamland Park and Cybernet Worlds. World owners will pull the plug on their worlds. People will nuke their properties. Nobody will go to Bingo and there will be no Bingo prizes or anyone to run the games. Nobody will want to buy universes from Active Worlds. The mere name "Active Worlds" will have a stain upon it. It happened to Dreamland Park only 2 years ago. They almost went under. They are STILL trying to recoup their losses and recruit new visitors. There was a mass immigration from Dreamland Park to AW. But that was a different scandal. I foresee a terrible loss to AW if this is allowed to happen. How sad. ~ TheLioness o ;-"< WOW!!!Jan 4, 2002, 11:19am
I DO hope AWC reads this stuff. Your ideas are an inspiration and refreshing
to hear amid all the cussing and complaining going on right now in the petition and inside AW. World owners,PK's and even GK's are voicing their outrage at AWC's decision. Hmmmm....speaking of world owner's....I wonder if there would be any gaming industry out there who would love to sponsor an average, run of the mill, world owner who'd be interested in offering games to the public for free while the gaming company would be willing to pay for the world space to advertise....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... (=o"D AW Petition On-lineJan 6, 2002, 6:12pm
Probably cus a lot of cits have already jumped off the sinking ship and now
find themselves in other unis. From what I found out last night, there were over 400 new citizenships started up in Dreamland Park alone. Who knows how many more in OW or Cybernet Worlds. ;-") [View Quote] why?Jan 9, 2002, 10:12am
From what I understand, if your citship runs out before March 3, you can
renew now at the existing rate. There are protest groups out there. This newsgroup is one way of protesting cus we know AWC reads the messages on here on occasion. There is/was also a petition which was signed by nearly 2000 citizens also protesting. There have been numerous discussions and suggestions held in AW and other AW related unis that we know folks from AWC have been listening to. There have been hundreds if not thousands of emails sent to AWC with suggestions and complaints. Nothing has changed yet. Personally, I highly doubt if it will change at all. And according to the letter, AWC has already decided on the pricing increase. AWC could have done a lot of things to improve performance and their financial outlook, but now its too late. You can lie low if you want hon, but as for myself and over 1000 other citizens, we're up in arms over this astronimical proposal. If you would read most of the messages left here, you'd understand why AW is so important to most of its citizens. Especially those who are home bound. And you might be financially well off and don't consider a jump from 19.95 a year to 120 bucks a year significant, but there are those of us who can't afford that, especially when all we do in AW is sit there and chat a few hours a week. If I was a world owner and heavily into building and bots and bingo I wouldn't hesitate to pay what they're asking, however I am a single mom trying to make ends meet and that much of an increase in a year affects not only me but also my child. I'm sure most of the other citizens in AW's unis can relate to that situation. So NO!! I am NOT going to lie low. I am going out fighting. Even if my fighting falls on deaf ears. And I know I won't be alone in this. [View Quote] help me fight for my rights!Jan 15, 2002, 9:51am
Sue em??? Think bout this for a minute. There is no money lost here. Data
didn't pay anything. But he would have to pay court costs. Is it worth all the stress and trouble just to get the boy's rights back??? Until somebody could get the courts to understand what he is trying to fight for, we're talking a very long time and a lot of money for attorney retainer fees, etc. What it would probably boil down to in the court's eyes is something called "creative rights" because basically that's what it is since Data needs his rights returned so he can get his building privs back. In the court's eyes, AW would be considered a "Bryce" type of program with a chat. The judge might even think it would be a waste of time and paperwork to pursue something of this nature. [View Quote] help me fight for my rights!Jan 15, 2002, 8:01pm
From what I remember reading, Data CAN'T take his creations with him since
they now have Loki's name stamped all over them. That is in part, some of what Data's complaint is. Data was, for over 2 years, one of the major builders in DLP, building not just in some of the worlds there but helping to create most of the landscape. He was a pivotal creator of most of what you see in DLP today. With Loki's name stamped on most of those builds, Data cannot do anything with those objects. He cannot move them, nor change them in any way, (ie delete them). [View Quote] disappearing newsgroups postingsJan 11, 2002, 3:04am
K....I am a bit confused. I made two postings to this newsgroup only a few
days ago. I wasn't rude, obnoxious, or overly critical about AWC. I didn't cuss, throw a tantrum, or create any scandals. Yet these two postings "poofed". One of the responses to the one comment I made was on here early this morning when I checked to see if anyone else responded. And that was at 7 AM. I see a lot of other postings on here that border on foul language, sound threatening, or downright repetitive, and they're still on. I'm kind of new to posting on newsgroups...what's the deal????? disappearing newsgroups postingsJan 11, 2002, 3:22am

Glad to see someone else besides me thinks more publicity about AW would
generate more business. I wonder perhaps if it would benefit AWC to possibly do some kind of interview for a puter zine, or maybe write an actual article and submit it to a widely recognized mag such as USA today, or Wall Street Journal??? That in turn would rouse some curiosity and interest in potential customers who very well might consider also investing in AWC. Would be a whole lot cheaper than just placing advertisements in mags and tabloids. Just my pennies worth. ;-"D [View Quote] |
