Hi AW Peoples :)

I was just wondering what types of things people love to build? If you
would please reply I'd love to see feedback on the following questions.
It would be a fun thing to share.

1.What kind of builds do you favor making?
2. I, myself am into building landscapes mainly and wondered if anyone
else is?
3. What types of things have you created?
4. What is your favorite theme?
5. Favorite thing to build?
6. Or what particular build are you most proud of?
7. What types of special effects or aspects do you like to incorporate
into your builds?
8. Has anyone else's builds inspired your building?
9. What inspiration causes you to create your builds?
10. How long have you been building?
11. How did you learn to build?
12. What do you credit for your success in building?
13. What feature/function do you use most in your buildings?
14. Do you have a special texture or object you use frequently?
15. What features or functions would you like to see added for building
in AW?
16. What Objects would you like to see added for your building pleasure
in AW?

I thought this would be a very interesting way to share our experiences
in building in AW. Thanks!
CoLor

1. Futuristic/round-ish/stylish, sometimes realistic type builds
2. Landscaping? Not really. AW seems a little too limited IMO for decent
landscaping.
3. 1343.60S 1253.68E 0a 270
4. See #1
5. Anything that looks cool.
6. Probably an indoor elevator structure, found somewhat near the
coordinates mentioned above.
7. See #5
8. Sure... can't remember who's builds off the top of my head though.
9. Some real life buildings that I think looks nice, and is
technically/practically possible with the object path of the world I
build in.
10. Pretty much since I got into AW back in 2003.
11. An online friend taught me.
12. Said friend, AW's (somewhat limited) building tools.
13. Ctrl+Insert is a godsend. If only it worked vertically...
14. I <3 pp16crv's

15. Here's a list:
a. Something similar to Ctrl+Ins, except going vertical
b. Being able to change the object model, action, and/or description of
multiple objects in one fell swoop.
c. A Scale action command. That would be the most awesomest feature ever
d. A full-blown scripting language (like that'll ever happen =P)

16. Another list:
a. Something that fits nicely in the corner of two pp16crv's
perpendicular to each other (like how roofc07 fits the corner of two
roof07's).
b. A version of pp16crv1b that's texturable.
c. pp16flr's that are made of glass
d. pp00m. Currently, only pp00 and pp00l exist.
e. w1/w2/w3/s1/s2/s3 versions of objects other than pp01, pp16, and walk26.
f. Can't think of any more right now, but I'm sure there's more... =P

> 1.What kind of builds do you favor making?

Urban, Industrial, Nature, and making games mostly, but pretty much
everything except houses.

> 2. I, myself am into building landscapes mainly and wondered if anyone
> else is?

Yes.

> 3. What types of things have you created?

Well, my long term goal is to build every type of build and environment,
since every one requires different style and creativity, that's what keeps
me interested in AW.

> 6. Or what particular build are you most proud of?

Sharman Caves - 1687.26S 4699.53E 300

> 7. What types of special effects or aspects do you like to incorporate
> into your builds?

Heavy on the sound effects, definantly. They go a looonngg way to making it
more immersive.

> 10. How long have you been building?

7 years

> 11. How did you learn to build?

The AW help files got me started. Self taught afterward.

> 12. What do you credit for your success in building?

Well my friends are always great at inputting ideas and suggestions :D

> 13. What feature/function do you use most in your buildings?

Never using the default textures applied to objects, and sometimes mixing 2
textures together using the mask commands.

> 14. Do you have a special texture or object you use frequently?

No.

> 15. What features or functions would you like to see added for building
> in AW?

Being able to scale objects. General enhancements to the move command would
go a long way towards game-making too.

> 16. What Objects would you like to see added for your building pleasure
> in AW?

Basic shapes that accept textures. Spheres, boxes, cones, objects that
could be used for wire/rope, etc...in other words, a lot of primative
objects. They're the building blocks to making custom builds, yet we don't
really have any objects specifically designed for that.

........SW City Subway system.. Syntax Mansion.. Ilexus Forest and Caves...

> 7. What types of special effects or aspects do you like to incorporate

......Sound effects is a definate must. I always add little secret rooms all
over the place too.. we call 'em "nougats". They are always a prominent
part of my buildings.. gives the explorers something to look for. :P

> 8. Has anyone else's builds inspired your building?

.......Oh of course.

> 1.What kind of builds do you favor making?

I like making innovative residential things, interior exterior and landscape

> 2. I, myself am into building landscapes mainly and wondered if anyone
> else is?

Indeed

> 3. What types of things have you created?

Many houses and a few large themed areas

> 6. Or what particular build are you most proud of?

A little of them all

> 7. What types of special effects or aspects do you like to incorporate
> into your builds?

I like to try out innovative things, I like to take a crazy idea that seems
impossible and work on it til I can make a home out of it lol

> 10. How long have you been building?

5 years

> 11. How did you learn to build?

RC Dodge Viper told me how to right click and gave me the basics then I
kinda taught myself after that

>12. Do you find inspiration in other builders?

Definitly, builders like Dreme Lojyk was my first "idol" of a builder,
Ferruccio's builds always give me a better understanding of realistic homes,
and I am especially fond of new builders, while they arent so advanced they
sometimes have such amazing ideas!

> 13. What feature/function do you use most in your buildings?

Just plain aw objects I guess

> 14. Do you have a special texture or object you use frequently?

create texture wtcmem3 mask=awd7m (I use that alot lol)

> 15. What features or functions would you like to see added for building

[View Quote] Just about anything except for most stores and factories.

> 2. I, myself am into building landscapes mainly and wondered if anyone
> else is?

Yes.

> 3. What types of things have you created?

Houses, mountains, starships, office areas, various gardens,
skyscrapers, also lots of things related to major builds in sw city.

> 4. What is your favorite theme?

Very few themes I don't like. I really hate victorian though. Dunno why :P

> 5. Favorite thing to build?

Huge projects.

> 6. Or what particular build are you most proud of?

The palace at AW 2218.41S 3983.53E 0.92a 180 for now, but probably not
for long.

> 7. What types of special effects or aspects do you like to incorporate
> into your builds?

Lots of astarts.

> 8. Has anyone else's builds inspired your building?

Just about anyone with a good idea, whether they're a n00b at building
or not, will be inspiring.

> 9. What inspiration causes you to create your builds?

Just about anything.

> 10. How long have you been building?

Since 2001.

> 11. How did you learn to build?

SS Goku taught me for the first day or so. After that, it was all
self-taught.

> 12. What do you credit for your success in building?

Probably the SW Core. It seems that they are the only active community
left in Active Worlds. Without the people around, I don't think I would
be building that much.

> 13. What feature/function do you use most in your buildings?
In the current build, about 90% of the objects are 3 axis-rotated.

> 14. Do you have a special texture or object you use frequently?

Rock2, flat36, and woodpost seem to be the main textures I use in houses.

> 15. What features or functions would you like to see added for building
> in AW?

Larger cell limit. Larger cell limit. Larger cell limit.

For new browser features, I want the ability to stretch and skew objects.

> 16. What Objects would you like to see added for your building pleasure
> in AW?

Curve objects that don't have messed-up gradients and are not
misaligned. More objects based around the 1 click width of the pp01_n,
perhaps a nice .5x.5 meter square.

Ok, I will answer my own questions, since you asked:

1.What kind of builds do you favor making?
*I love making landscapes. I favor creating hills, valleys, lakes, rivers,
waterfalls, flower gardens, caves, etc...

2. I, myself am into building landscapes mainly and wondered if anyone
else is?
*I love building integrated landscapes with others(integrated in that the
borders between the builds are not easily defined). Its so much fun to build side
by side with friends.

3. What types of things have you created?
* While I have done some mountains and lakes, waterfalls, I've also done some
different themes, such as skybuilds(in the sky) caves, underground places,
space/martian(in the world Mars), gazebos, japanese type gardens...

4. What is your favorite theme?
*Hmmm hard question... I guess naturalistic landscaping. To make something so
fun to look at and explore and create little surprise areas.

5. Favorite thing to build?
*I'm not sure. Rivers, I guess, hills? My friends could probably define my
builds better than I could.

6. Or what particular build are you most proud of?
* My favorite would probably be whatever build I'm currently working on.
Although somethings I do like about my one unfinished project River Estates AW
2410N 2410E and other aspects of my unfinished Starlight Estates AW 6900S
6875W Yes you noticed the theme? It's: Unfinished hehe I seem to specialize in
unfinished projects with many ideas in mind for new things to do.

7. What types of special effects or aspects do you like to incorporate
into your builds?
* I love the corona and lighting effects. I like how they make the scenery come
alive.

8. Has anyone else's builds inspired your building?
* My love of landscaping was in part inspired by Mt.Bob. I was in awe of the
degree of artwork achieved to create a realistic landscape & mountain. Some of
my friends have inspired me with their equisite builds and degree of building
know how. And Im blown away by the things created in the Birthday Builds. The
genius on display there just amazes me every time.

9. What inspiration causes you to create your builds?
* My inspiration for building landscaping comes from a love of nature. And
brings me a lot of peace like the countryside does in real life. A love of
beauty.

10. How long have you been building?
* Since 1999 Ive been building. almost 6yrs I guess.

11. How did you learn to build?
* When I first joined I tried by myself. I became so frustrated by mismatched
objects and making a mess, not knowing how to fix my builds that I gave up
building. Til about 2 or more weeks later I came back and this time some friends
showed me how to do things. And Im still learning from friends now as time goes
along.

12. What do you credit for your success in building?
*The only success I have is due to friends helping me learn new things or help
me fix problem areas and the AWSchool teachers that I have talked to with
various building questions.

13. What feature/function do you use most in your buildings?
* I guess I use a lot of hill objects and landas for creating the mountains. I
like to add in caves to them. I add waterfalls and rivers to them. I use a lot
of different trees and flowers and shrubs.

14. Do you have a special texture or object you use frequently?
* I love using pictwlks and pictwalls. In the Landscaping I love to add a lot of
different trees and flowers. Currently Im in love with the tbtree007.rwx series
of new trees! they really are great and add a lot to a landscape!

15. What features or functions would you like to see added for building
in AW?
* I'd like to see real mirrors with real reflections. I want Water pieces such
as water4tr.rwx and so on that would hold create URL or make the pictwlks.rwx or
pictwll.rwx in a curve so I can use that shape. Resizing objects would be great.
right now I achieve it thru the mask feature but not all things have that
ability to be changed that way.

16. What Objects would you like to see added for your building pleasure
in AW?
* I would LOVE to see MORE flowers, shrubs, trees (all realistic looking). I'd
want smaller and larger hill pieces(such as hill02.rwx etc). More unique rock
shapes, more rock and texture patterns for rocks. I'd like gazebo sets: floor of
the gazebo & foundation fit better. I'd like spheres in all sizes from as small
a drink01.rwx to tree size. Working stop and go lights would be amazing. Animals
to put around a natural landscape! With choice of animation or not and a simple
selection to produce animation directions etc.

CoLor I love your approach here to the sharing and inspiring of building. I
think you have the nicest building style as I saw some of your work in the
past and awed. It would be so fabulous if you'd organize a website or some
other means to perhaps get further involved with this line of thought that
you began in this thread. God Bless.
