London bombings // Communitylioness..Jul 8, 2005, 2:58pm
I was shocked to see the headlines about the blasts yesterday. I'm sure I
speak for many people who cannot post in these newsgroups when I say our UK friends are loved dearly and we are all praying for your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Give us a shout if you live in the UK and can post in these ngs. We'd all love to hear that you're ok. strike rapierJul 8, 2005, 3:11pm
The public services handled it extraordinarily well from what I have seen
from the BBC across here. There had been several actual rehearsals for such a situation, which minimized loss of life and panic. -- - Mark Randall http://zetech.swehli.com [View Quote] heretikJul 8, 2005, 5:14pm

I had a pretty good feeling that some sort of an attack would take place
during the summer of this year, but I wasn't sure of the location. If you carefully look at the news wires often and read between the lines, you can get a general idea of what's really going on. Let's hope that those that died in the London attacks are now in a better place and that Americans can prepare for the inevitability of future attacks in the U.S. "Intel analyst: Attack on U.S. imminent" http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=45194 -Builderz [View Quote] r i c h a r dJul 9, 2005, 12:00pm
Thing, I don't see why I should let those attacks stop the way life is why
should we slow down and stop our country just cause of it. No were not drama queens like other people who have had attacks on them. Yes if you knew people involved you have all the right to be shocked but why would anyone else in the UK be shocked? We had enough crap from the IRA for the last god knows how many years to really be bothered by it. People in london were perfectly calm, people just kept working in there offices as usual. http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/avdb/news_web/video/9012da68001aaa0/bb/09012da68001ad92_16x9_bb.asx http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/avdb/news_web/video/9012da68001aaa0/bb/09012da68001ad4e_16x9_bb.asx http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/avdb/news_web/video/9012da68001b658/bb/09012da68001b68c_16x9_bb.asx Look at those 3 videos? Do you see panic, I think theres a lesson for drama queens here, you shouldn't let it bother you cause bringing the world to a stop is what they're trying to do so why let them? I mean I will quite happily get on a london underground train right now. gnu32Jul 9, 2005, 2:01pm
I think we've been praising the lack-of-panic in the past few replies O_O
But i am actually suprised this was handelled well [View Quote] r i c h a r dJul 9, 2005, 8:24pm
Well you've all sounded like your deep in sympathy for us, well to be honest
we dont really care lol. [View Quote] strike rapierJul 9, 2005, 9:21pm
It is not that we are not flat out rejecting everyone, more that we hope for
your support in preventing things like it again - London and indeed all of England has been through it before in the last 10 to 100 years and London is, in many ways, the basis for most emergency response systems in the world due to the blitz. -- - Mark Randall http://zetech.swehli.com [View Quote] xelagJul 9, 2005, 10:51pm
Possibly, London is the base where invisible local cells of these
criminals operate, and organised this mass murder. Not only London, Amsterdam and other places have the same viral cells too, I am very conscious of this here in the Netherlands. It is difficult to analise, not to mention understand, what goes on in the heads of these insane murderers. But one thing the Queen of England said is refreshing, and at the same time confusing: we are not going to change our way of life. Refreshing because we should not reply to these insanities with fear, that is what they want. Confusing because a lot of the structures and attitudes we have are feeding ground for these maniacs. My condolences to the victims in the London attacks, and to their families. My sympathies also go to the muslim community people who have expressed the same fear, uncertainties and condemnation of these barbaric acts as we have. This is not about religion, this reflects an unbalanced world, where counternatural acts are justified by some using religion as an excuse. Murder can not solve the instability of the world we live in - mainly caused by greed - it only aggravates it. (((((((((((((((((((((((Gnu))))))))))))))))))))))) I, for one, am very glad
you and your loved ones are ok. I made this post because I truly cared. I didn't expect someone to tell me to take my concern and shove it like Richard did. I feel sorry for those who have gotten so used to things like this that it doesn't bother them anymore. Thank goodness much of the United States doesn't have to worry about things like bus bombings or subway bombings. We have enough to deal with with drug trafficking, drive-by shootings, gangs, and weirdos who steal little children off their bicycles. Its a shame we have to deal with any of that but let us not forget that while we are going about our busy lives, an act like this is horrific and should never EVER be accepted as normal and we should never allow ourselves to get used to it. I'm not saying we need to change our way of life. Sheesh....... reread what I wrote if yer confused. 0_0 To whomever feels compelled to start something related to the war in Iraq: please don't. Dont' start bickering over who is right and who is wrong politically. That was never my intention in this post. All I wanted to convey in this message was that there are people in AW who truly care about what happened in London and there are people in AW who were affected by those bombings. I am not offering my "sympathies" on a platter as Richard suggested and neither is anyone else. I don't consider my empathy equal to that of a "drama queen". If my compassion isn't welcome, please ignore this post and don't make stupid comments such as: Sorry Gnu. This wasn't all directed at you. [View Quote] r i c h a r dJul 10, 2005, 6:49pm
Now you missed my point completely, oh well it happened never mind? Meaning
unlike other events around the world were not gonna bring the world to a hault. Secondly most of the UK doesn't have to worry about bombings london is only a fraction of the UK. But we have no fear, I will quite happily buy a travel card and travel to every station on the london underground if asked to. I didn't say shuve it however its old news we had moved on by the afternoon it was just a normal day to us, we don't have to go round dragging up whats happened sitting there saying oh my god it was horrible! r i c h a r dJul 10, 2005, 6:54pm
Oh and yes if we get use to it, it doesn't bother us, there is less point of
bothering to attack us. r i c h a r dJul 10, 2005, 7:16pm
Whats to confuse?
The point of terrorisum is to cause fear. If fear is produced the attack is susccesful and there is motive for another. If no fear is created it is pointless to keep attacking. All I say is that why should we let it bother us. Why should we cry about every single little thing that happens as that just encourages then to do it again! gnu32Jul 10, 2005, 9:17pm
No see you dragged a 13 year old into an adult conversation O_O
Although you have a point [View Quote] heretikJul 10, 2005, 10:43pm
Hey Hey Richard,
You got a point and that is the idelogy we have to use to combat "terorism".. ie.. not to be terrorised... -Im a little shocked though at the loss of life we encoutered in London which I think is important to remember and especially consider.. In my town Maidstone- a 40min drive from London we have had a bomb threat yesterday.. maybe unrealted... still, scarey stuff, but important as you say to move on- though remember those who have died in the name of our values....these people have died, which is shocking and very sad- the attack itself was bound to happen at some point- as the government have warned in recent times.. and so it came... The people I know who were in London that day were confused and calm.. but very shocked... I think you might be too espeically so if someone you knew died in this pointless attack too.... Food for thought... [View Quote] r i c h a r dJul 10, 2005, 11:16pm
If people read my earlier post, I said something along the lines of fair
enough if you knew someone invovled you have allright to be worried/upset and sympath to them but I don't see why the whole country needs to be hugged better we can stand on our own two feet and im 40 minutes from london too and I don't feel any less safe or scared I still travel on the trains regularly and will quite happily go on the london underground! imagineJul 15, 2005, 9:59pm
<<Whats to confuse?>>
Hmmm it seems to me that you are the one confused R I C H A R D, and here is why. <<The point of terrorisum is to cause fear. If fear is produced the attack is susccesful and there is motive for another.>> That part of what you said is in part true. But, the point of terrorism is also to take as many lives and to do as much damage property damage as possible, even if, and in most cases, it means the terrorist takes his own life. <<If no fear is created it is pointless to keep attacking.>> In theory; that statement is true. And, is the best thing to say to keep the general public from panicking. But it is also a blanket statement. I'm sure there is much more to the attacks then JUST trying to generate fear. <<All I say is that why should we let it bother us. <<Why should we cry about every single little thing that happens as that just encourages then to do it again!>> Why. because there is a difference between fear and sympathy. For the attacked city/country as a whole to go about its daily life as if nothing had happened is one thing. It shows that the city/country was not defeated by the insanity and callousness of the attack. That statement <<If no fear is created it is pointless to keep attacking.>> is not telling you to be less human; it's not telling you to feel less for the lose of life from that bombing than you would if some one in your own family had just been killed in an auto accident. It is still OK to feel. It's when we stop feeling sympathy for lose of life that we are doomed as a civilization. That is Why. You were bragging in one of your posts that you would still ride the trains and buses to show those terrorists that you have no fear. Good for you, go for it. But while you are at it, have the courage to show that you have the compassion it takes to show sympathy for those who died and their wounded families. "Showing sympathy is not showing fear; it is showing that you are still human" Humanity is another thing the terrorists are trying to destroy. You are right, they shouldn't be allowed to take our courage, but they shouldn't be allowed to take our humanity either. R I C H A R D, please think before you talk. I'm sure you think you are justified in asking this question <<Why should we cry about every single little thing that happens as that just encourages then to do it again!>> But, I think the children, wives, husbands, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers of the people who died don't think the lose of their loved ones was a little thing. They have plenty to cry about. I do send my sympathies to them and my condolences, not because I am in fear of the terrorists, but because I am still human, in spite of them. Did that answer your question R I C H A R D? R I C H A R D, a question for you. If on your train or bus travels you should be blown up, wouldn't you want people to care about you, especially your family? I'm sure they would cry over that little thing. Not to say it would in any way be a "little thing" if you were lost too. Imagine |
