It does seem a whole lot of issues here have risen at once and been
confused, and this can be easliy done when people are personally attacked in the way EP was. It also leads to further questions that we should ask about ourselves and the soceity within which we live. I agree with TheLady. This forum is for the community in which we live and those who can not make an intelegent response to any post should really think,(or try to think) before doing so. In any community a linch mob effect can be created very easily and GK's or PK's play an important role in mediating this so it is crucial to have trusted people who are well selected for this job. And consistency within this is vital. They ought to be impartial- but this seems to be an issue which keeps cropping up and is not to many citizens experience as is proof of reading here in this forum. Difficult problem to solve that one all will agree- and personal prejustices always lie within any person- but I have seen the PK and GK role done very effectively by some, myself only ever having had one complaint myself- and I may also add that the matter was given an understanding and happy resolve too. Do we want a society where we cant discuss matters that are controversial? Do we want to deal with our prejustices and thoughts on issues? Or do we just want to sweep it under the carpet? Censorship is another a difficult subject that I feel has been raised here... and should be considered deeply before being put to use.. and rational, respectful discussion is the only way to resolve certain matters, even if it is to agree to disagree. As long as the discussion is kept to guidelines as TheLady points out and discussions/points of view are put across intelegently without prejustice and with tact and respect, there should be no problem... and to be brutally honest- I have seen this done by many-in many different areas of general life- and all with the greatest of ease too. All it is, is just a matter of thinking instead of responding in an emotional and egotistcal manner. It also seems to me that avoiding the subject of EP's post by suggesting that the post was somehow "too long" is not really a very intelegent response-absurd infact- and a complete cop out of examining her points of view, maybe it is too long for certain readers.. and one has to wonder just exactly why that is...? In any case as a Citizen it is my and any of your rights to place a point of view on this forum, in an intelegent and respectful manner to any length. And I think it is important remember too, you don't have to read it. But if you do and wish to respond- (and you only have a right to respond if you do read it all), just try to understand and formulate a balanced oppinion before acting out of emotion and responding with things like just "Shut up". Really all that says is that I cannot put forward an intelegent response. We are all adults and when certain issues are addressed we should, in my mind be able to discuss them in the manner above, Hell, Im only 24, I shouldnt be having to discuss these simple matters of ratioanlity in this day and age..and it would be foolish to speculate on peoples agendas in my oppinion on them without discussing the issuse with, or knowing the person involved first in depth. Unless ofcourse you have a mind probe.... in which case you can tell exactly what they are thinking... Anyway, I digress. society. My advice for those with complaints is to take their complaints with proof to a PK so the matter can be dealt with effectively and properly. It alarms me when this matter is brought up in open chat with lack of proof, and also when it is annouced in a careless tone, especially when names are named and it seems that one of the main aims of these comments is to cause damage to reputation, or bring about social harm to fellow citizens. AW is a family and most things can be sorted out amicably through discussion of fact and rationallity. This has been my general experience in AW to date, which I am grateful for... I may also add I am proud to be a part of a society that deals with most issues in such a civalised manner. Alike to OneSummer's earlier post mentioning staged turmoil I feel it is inappropriate and in its actuality, it can become a form of harrasent in itself. As much as I understand this is a double edged sword- cryin wolf verus the reality of a situation- it is I feel a topic that should be carefully considered... by all parties before placing comments in open chat.... Yes this is good news 1st and I agree, this can be a valuable tool to our
community of we use it wisely, whatever the reason for its shutting down before, we should focus on the future and how we can use this constructively in a social furthering context and not be used as a place to vent anger- or parade extensions of egos. Heyy We got 2 Radio Stations!!
This is a great thing, more choice for different tastes/ strokes for different folks etc; But lets not let it divide our community up here- or drive people away from being able to just chill out at GZ for example.. Really I'd say one Radio station is the best solution for AW, but I guess theres always goin to be dispute on how it should be run, playlists etc,and these sorts of compromises are just not possible to make sometimes... So.. how about the Stations playin alternative nights or something? I dunno, maybe thats not practicle, or people dont want that, but it'd be sad if it all splits the community in two, and if the vying for control of the airwaves gets any worse- it will do that. Man!! I had people gramming me to sing along cause they didnt want to upset Station owners/DJs/AW people the other night!!! I dig both stations- SF has put in a lotta hard work and time into his station as have OnesSummer and Veger who have been stackin in the hours to provide us all with something to sing along with... but thats where the fun is begining to end now... people are usure of who to sing along with and dont want to get caught up in siding and upsettin folks... All the DJ's - Veg, SF, OneSummer, RaShaL, Jeranu, Phazar etc etc- the whole crew - All do a great job... the easy answer is one station... But if thats not gonna happen theres got to be some compromise- people are already feeling like they are being driven away from GZ... I am interested in how many other stations are out there- this is a vast
place and Ive only ever heard of several- but there do seem to be issues here with being able to chill out at GZ and a divide growing which is pretty silly when you think about it and detrimental to the community which it is meant to be there for- and as discussed earlier the spamming thing is a major annoyance especially with the added competition element- Maybe we should all start up our own radio stations and just spam each other at GZ, kinda a popularity contest sort of thing? Have a prize each week... Lol - just sad that the responsibilty of a station for a general public area has become fractured like this, its hardly a good advertisement to a prespective Citizen.. Fair play, yeh as I said earlier its good to have choice, but when it
becomes detrimental and starts to fracture a community surely the issue should be dealt with and addressed? - I agree without competition there is no need to better or make advances and can be a good thing, but it is spamming with ads along with an almost forceful "hard sell" approach which is starting to take its toll on the community.. People want to relax and chill out at GZ or the Gate, and this issue has been raised by many in my experienced from talking to people in AW. The fact remains that it does not seem to be a healthy competition at present - though I do agree it could be a helpful element in development of service aspect. But it is not as simple as just moving on to a different station unfourtuantly- now it has become the focal point at places like GZ and is thus dividing the community.... So one official station would act as a draw string to hold things together properly; Or maybe perhaps there should be a an official governing body that would cover all stations amd would have regulations in place so a proffesional manner is kept- and we will not have this "our staion is better than the other stations who are trying to immatate us" nonsense- which is sad and pathetic. This also underlines that the element of competition is not healthy and not developing or there for the good of the community at large- which is why people come to AW, AW GZ/The Gate etc in general- as there is a good sense of community... This isnt a place I need to see advertising or competition in such a manic way... I come here to relax and have a good chat as most people do. Personally I listen to different things when I am in AW, CD's and then which ever station I feel like at the time.. but it is distracting when people are split into two competitive camps...and this is why people are not feeling like being at GZ.... I was very cautious and suspicious of your "Amanda Wesley" act to begin with and found that you were seiya quite quickly due to looking at the root directory of the website that you used to host "your pictures" and finding that it also contained your seiya profile. People in general dont enjoy having any kind of friendship under a pretense and you cannot expect them to not act accordingly. It is odd that you talk about your "building addiction" when you do not mention the way you have toyed with people in Aw; I would suggest it is not this that is your problem, the way I see it, it is your inability to interact in a responsible and trustworthy manner with other people.ie. Your social skills are lacking. You have damaged your building reputation as a result of this behaviour which is sad as actually some of your builds are quite good. But thats something you did to yourself. Any community in this day and age you will probably find as not to be tollerant of this sort of behaviour, especially when you are trying to pose as a minor with lots of problems in an attempt to gain sympathy- your attempts to attain an internet boyfriend also raises deeper and more topical issues. Whatever your situation.. and I think I speak for lots of people, it is a sick mind that plays with manilpualting peoples good nature in the ways that I have seen you do with others here in Activeworlds. Well- we were all chillin at GZ the other night and PK61 decides in his
wisdom when Babble Fish asks - "Is Michael Jackson guilty?" to deem the conversation as not appropriate for GZ -then after a little discussion he then backtracks and says he didnt say we shouldnt continue the conversation, just to proceed cautiously... Now... Any other PK I know dont trip like that and lets things roll until it is eveident that there is goin to be a problem... I was disgusted at the straight laced interpretation for AWGZ which is a place of laughs and fun and topical discussion in my view- and always has been ever since I have been frequenting it. All the pks I talk to say they are not there to Police.. And in my experience this is the truth and they all do a great job -I just found his warnings every five minutes that something MIGHT turn into something that MIGHT be on the edge of AW regs a bit crass and unintuitive, not to mention delebriately antagonistic- most PKs I've spoken to will let a chat and the community's talk and chat and develop- and if it does breach the "guidelines" fair play- then say something. Darn ruined my and others evening havin someone jump on every little thing - "This might turn into something"- it blantently just antagonises people- which is what it did- and this in my and everyone elses eyes I spoke to does not lead to a good way forward for AW's Rep - the PK core or its citezens. There is a certain ammount of respect here that should be adhered to for sure- but haveing coversation choked in this way is a pretty sad thing in my oppinion- and the lack of faith in the Cits who regularly come to GZ to talk, chat and try to have fun is pretty patronising. Topical debate has always gone on at GZ and I suggest this PK is witness to GZ at other times and on other Pk's shifts as the night in mention he managed to antagonise needlessly pretty much everyone at GZ-and this is not the way forward for any PK who needs the mutal repect of the citezens to be able to enjoy AW. I am sure everyone will agree that we do not want AWGZ to turn into the gate... What yall think? I was perfectly happy to discuss Jackson as was everyone there... it is a topical and relavent topic- I do object to someone warning on me how to progress wiht my conversation every five minutes and it says a lot in my book the need to interject in such a way if you ask me... Most Pks I know do an exceptional job- but this one... upset a whole lotta people for no good reason. Ive been witness to many a topical debate over different things at GZ- and the intracises of child molestation wernt really gonna be investigated in detail after the general question of was he guilty or not.. I dont think many would be that insensitive... Conversation was being jumped on at every oppertunity about something that MIGHT occur, not what was actually occuring, ie. Yeah, usually it is lax and laid back- this is why i was a bit dismayed as
all the atmosphere was sucked outa the usual jovial and jolly lot of cits crackin jokes and it turned into lockdown. Its good to have chat moderated a bit if anyone gets blatently out of hand, but the regulars who come to AWGZ all know the score and usually enjoy interesting conversation and dont go too far - and most the PK's are totally cool with the way they keep the peace and dont enforce it like how it seemed that eve.. I can understand the Gate as being the 1st port of call for prespective new Cits being important and "kept nice", but AWGZ in the time Ive been there has always been more relaxed- should let conversations develop and not insult the citizens with a warning before anything has really actually transpired... Where will it stop? If we cant mention Jackson's name without gettin a warning oughtent we get one for mentioning an actors name who appears in an 18rated film for example?
