I am highly convinced that the AWCamp prizes will not come. Last year, the
way they did it was if you didn't send in your prize selections to the
Admins by 1 week from the end of camp, you didn't get them. Now this is
OUTRAGEOUS. I have been waiting over 3 and a half weeks...

I COULD care less, but I still don't care enough to email them asking
where my prize is. I already have enough bot rights and I don't want
another world.

Since WT and Trisha are PROBABLY without power because of a hurricane
destroying their town and possibly their house, you might have to wait
longer. Dunno who was in charge of the award giving, but if it was them,
they have other things on their minds right now in RL (eg: food, water,
cleanup, home repairs) ;-")

It was the 3rd most costly disaster in US history, and worst hurricane in a
dozen years, since Andrew.

Wrrrrrrrong, my sweet. :-)

It was a third place prize in AWTrivia, and I haven't received it because I haven't asked for it....yet. It was a prize that I'd have to specify. Already aware of that, you! ;-)

Hey, I'm old and slow. I'll get around to telling AWI what I'd like someday. AWI hasn't been holding back on my prize at all. They don't know what I want....yet.

If you don't think it was that bad, then you obviously didn't watch the
news reports of the aftermath... It hit the center area of Florida (near
Tampa) directly...

Well, If ya ask me i would not like to have to chase down my prizes. That
would take all the fun out of it.

Why is it again that you have to claim your prizes from AWCamp? Wouldn't the
camp have your e-mail addresses already on file? And don't they keep track
of prize winners? What else would they need? Surely not your permission to
give you your prizes you willingly competed for; its a given you wanted the
prize if you were in the compation in the first place.

Obviously you weren't paying attention to the news. Charlie was a Catagory 4
hurricane when it hit Florida. WT and Trishia live in Port Charlotte (where
the hurricane slammed into the coast). Most of the town was wiped out. Many
people were killed. Most houses were destroyed. (check out CNN.com for
pictures) Across the harbor, just south of Port Charlotte is Punta Gorda
which also sustained a lot of damage. Most people STILL don't have power
restored and are still buying water from stores further inland (if they can
reach them). Of course once it traveled inland further, the winds died down
and it wasn't as severe a storm. However Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte lie
on an inlet, right along the coastline. Even Captiva Island, which is a
county or two south of where WT lives was hit hard.

Greetings All
I'm so glad some of you felt your prizes were worth more than concern for
life of others. Thank you, Lioness for trying to help by explaining to
people :o) It's true that Charlie made landfall where Trish and I live. It
was a STRONG cat4 (nearly cat5) with winds that exceeded cat5 specs. reason
it wasn't a cat5 was due to sustained winds are what they go by and not wind
gust speed.
As far as the MAIN delay for the prizes...look to your fellow campers for
NOT submitting the needed information for prizes. The info I submitted (once
we finally got internet back 4 days ago), from what I saw...an entire fort
refused to submit world names for the prizes they won? what's with that?
Some complained that they haven't received their prizes in 3 weeks????
whoopie...big deal...I was without internet for 6 weeks and am still without
phone communications (that would be even more disastorous to some of those
complaining teens than a hurricane hitting...no phone). We were without
power for 2 week...those complainers woulda more than likely gone bonkers
without computer and AC.

As soon as I did have internet access, I included the 3 prize choice
replies(out of who knows how many needed) into at and sent...those who
refused but still feel need to complain...if you don't receive...look to see
if you sent anything other than complaint e-mails.

In regards to Charlie, there was MUCH destruction. Very few of the mobile
home parks are remaining. I'd say app. 1 out of every 10 trailors remain.
Homes were destroyed...some simply by losing their roofs, others that are
nothing but a pile of rubble.I do have a few pictures of some area parts (or
what's left of them). Trish and I came out very lucky for the most
part...loss of 1 room and everything in the back yard destroyed or missing.
we are nearing 2 months and still waiting for an insurance adjuster.as far
as the one who said we are fine...yes, we are...but just because you THINK
the worse places hit were Cuba and Southern Florida...look to where Charlie
came ashore...Charlotte Harbor...Right where Trish and I are. We are
considered SW Florida, what I consider Southern Florida is Miami...I didn't
see where Charlie bothered them too very much. Naples got some, Ft. Myers
got a bit but if you ever have been in Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area
before....many people were getting lost then saddened due to tell-tale
landmarks no longer there. I went from Friday night after Charlie left to
Monday not realizing the full impact. It wasn't until Monday morning after
the hit that my excitement turned to sadness while on my way to work.
Businesses with no offices left, a marina I remember from my earliest
memories reduced to nothing but a pile of scrap tin and steel.stop-signs
where streetlights used to be. Lamps from the bridges connecting Port
Charlotte to Punta Gorda completely gone, along with the fencine along where
people walked the bridge daily for excorsize.
Be glad you were part of what Florida has experienced. after 5 high powered
storms hitting all areas (Bonnie, Charlie, Francess, Ivan and Jeanne), I'm
dismayed at the amount of people who worry about a virtual prize over all
else. By the way, the center of Florida was hit worse and I very much feel
for those, they were hit 3 times :o(

I'll get off the podium now,

I got one word for you: clueless

WT o

Oct 3, 2004, 4:56pm
no not clueless, said in comparison...wasn't the worst...and you say all of
these complaints...just deal, its in the past...no one can change it, even
if we'd have known about it for 5 years, we still can't STOP a
hurricane...be thankful you had a sturdily built house, and only lost power,
some places in Cuba had just shacks, or poorly constructed places, and their
entire houses where destroyed, entire neighborhoods even...my post was never
meant to say anything against you, and it DID indicate southern Florida...IE
below the northern region...or rather the peninsula

no-where do I see where this was said "in comparison to....". As far as how
sturdy a house was built, I don't see where a hurricane distinguishes that.
I had an old shack...and I'm not quoting that due to the fact it was a
shack. A 60 yr old wooden frame 4 room shack that I used to live in that
withstood the fury of Charley where new buildings made of concrete and
welded steel are in ruin. As far as SW Florida being included in Southern
Florida, I can tell you are a yankee...we have Southern Florida, Central,
Northern Florida as well as SW Florida. All the news stationmake the
distinction, all the Floridians make the distinction. I live in SouthWest
Florida....NOT Southern Florida

southern...southwest is included in south, mainly because south is south,
just like north is north 0_0

You're a kid ..you dunno what the parents have to deal with when power
is lost ..or the inconvenience ..it makes everything a lot more
difficult to deal with ..

Please do not comment on the effects of hurricanes until you are an
adult and you have been through one major hurricane - then you will be
in the position to either complain or write the experience off as nothing.

Thanks.

Glad to see you are back WT o. You all have been in our prayers for a while.
Sorry about contantly bugging for prizes...was being selfish. Once again I
apologize. I haven't seen Charlie, Frances, or Jeanne damage but 1 of our 3
beachhomes was completely destroyed by Ivan and the other is a place in an 8
story building thats condemned. Glad to know you are back and safe. Best of
luck to your house and reconstruction.

Verinhaaaaa, I wrote that back in August. :-) Since then I have asked for and quickly received my prize from AWTrivia. The "one object" I won was graciously increased to several sets of objects that I asked to have added. They are in Alphaworld now. You're already using my prize. :-) The curved glass walls, glass door, spheres and trees. Those are what I requested to be added as my "single object" prize. ;) Thanks to Mindseye (previously aka Nomad), tunablues and dreamer2 for making them, to Andras for submitting them for me, and to Rick for accepting them. At the same time, OneSummer and NightRaven independently also submitted some objects - the media "sign" objects.

Thank you Lioness! *hugs* Thank you WT as well. For those who said it wasn't
that bad a hurricane and you lived through it, great it got WEAKER when it
hit you then! Also I'de like to point out point blank, some said South
Florida and Cuba got the worst, and WT and I didn't get hit that bad, guys
you need to go online and find a map of florida! WT and I are IN South
Florida! Where a hurricane come ashore (hits land) is usualy the place that
gets the brunt (worst) of the storm due to the full impact. These storms do
NOT get weaker (Lesson) till AFTER they hit land. Now lets have a logic
lesson. As a storm approaces land, what happens? Places start getting hit
BEFORE it gets to the land. When a storm does hit land what happens? Those
places that got his as it was on it's way, get hit again even harder and
longer. We got lucky Charley was a fast moving storm. Ivan, comming ashore
took 12 hrs to pass over places. Charley took maby 2 to pass over us and
left us with streetlight embeded ( sunk into) the streets. We could not go
out at night because even with headlights on you could not see, no
streetlilghts. Now Port Charlotte/Charlotte Harbor was bad and that's where
we are, however, Punta Gorda a hole whopping mile accross the harbor is much
worse. What happend there? The storm NEVER let up for a good 2 solid hourse.
They did not get the eye of the storm, which gives a minor break (in the
case of Charley, in Ivan it gave several hours) from the winds. So think of
it this way, go stand in Nassa's wind tunnel and set the wind gusts for over
150 mph, for a hole two hours. After you have done that you can tell me it
wasn't that bad.
My land kids, there are MUCH MORE important things to worrie about. It's
like being grounded with out doing anything wrong. Now can you tell me your
three favorite things that don't require batteries, electric, gas or water?
With no electric and debree all over there was no gass unless you went out
of town (like an hour or two North). No Battries for games because they were
needed for flash lights and protable radios (so you can get information like
which grocerystore is open today and what they can and can't sell) and yes
no cold soda unless you could find a place to purchase ice. Most dinners and
food items could not be cooked for lack of water and electric. Get my drift
here kids?
Now, how in creation were we supposed to get prizes out ? Answer that one
please.
