I hope there will be a way in the final release for this to be docked...its
majorly piing be off..... -- Ry Citizen#: 323710 baroJan 30, 2004, 2:21am
I'd have to say the stupid floating-in-the-way-on-top-of-everything tabs is
the #1 pissoff from most people. Here's a tip. Run aw in a window, re-size the window to leave a space on the left side the size of the toolbar, then move it there. Other than the file and teleport an such menues not being where you'd expect them, it's pretty much the same. But the thing is, most everyone is doing this... so why the hell did they change it? starfleetJan 30, 2004, 2:51am
That way the action buttons run out of space, only half as many fit in now
on a 1024x768 screen. Besides the tabs auto-resize beyond the bottom screen limit when minimizing and re-maximizing them. GAHH! And when you rightclick an object twice the mouse pointer goes to the upper left corner. North exit bug still not fixed, Invite isn't working. Avatars are still static after changing to another av or entering a world. And one of the wrost things is the increased LAGG! It's 20-30% laggier than 495! GAHHHH!!!! -_- [View Quote] ryJan 30, 2004, 4:01am

whatever happened to those new versions with great new features like 3.3 and
before? There should have been no 3.5 until AWI implimented some *really* nice new features (equivalent to the terrain and 3 axis in 3.3. those were nice new features) AW 3.5 is just 3.4 with a pretty frame for the picture. alaskanshadowJan 30, 2004, 6:08pm
I wanna know where they expect us to put these useless floating tabs...if
you use the built in web browser, the only other place to put them is in front of your screen-a totally useless place. Its pointless having just the tabs be movable if the web browser isnt. Its also stupid that each time you restart AW it resizes the damn window because the tabs arent built in-you have to resize it every time you start AW so the tabs dont automatically over lap. I've looked over the 3.5 beta notes (http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw35/beta.html), and I have found this much about the floaty tabs:
In an attempt to control some apparent 'instability' regarding the viewport being resized, 3.5 build 503 did not make the camera resize. Well, apparently that wasn't working... so in build 504, they undid that, and instead introduced the one-way floaty tabs. Thats a pain in the ass, I dont want tons of minimized windows, thats what

As a strong critic of these float_around_windows, I agree 100%.
I suspect the reason to make the windows all independent of the "mother" window is the migration to a sexed-up full screen application (like games), in which you will then have floating windows for everything. [View Quote] bowenFeb 2, 2004, 5:52pm

To be truthfull, only idiots make a floater for a full screen application. What is really a genius design is to actually draw the window inside the viewport and allow the user to hide, shrink, make opaque, etc. This way it would allow users to have a non-fullscreen version without all the cluttering windows. Like most games do, they don't draw windows on top of windows, they use the parent window to contain all their data -- this is the basis of full screen games. Hey, it'd even look nicer and be a lot easier to implement skins this way. |
