hey would you know what would make a floopy drives green light stay on? I
tried 2 of them in one of my computers and the green light stayed on both.
I did reboot many times and there is no OS on the computer the BIOS does not
see the floopy drive.

Sounds like a good bet would be to replace the floppy drive flat ribbon
cable. I've had this happen before, when one of the wires shorted to the
chassis.

It is usually what a floppy drive does when you plug
in the data cable in the wrong way.
While it does that, it can even destroy data on write
protected floppy disks I heard.

They used to have one red wire, all others are grey.
The red wire is cable #1 and has to be the one that
is closest to the power plug. This is valid not only
on floppy drives but on HDs too.
The notch came later because too many ppl. didn't know
about the pin 1 rule.

The drive's power plug of course, not the PCs.

The cables I use to have a little triangle to match up. Some cables are
polarity protected too, especially when it connects to the MotherBoard.
Something I've noticed about floppy disk drives, when you remove a floppy
disk after transferring data, make sure you scroll out of the floppy drive
in your browser, that way it doesn't remember that something might be there
and load it when you open the browser again...also you can control the boot
sequence in the BIOS.

Post your floppy drive specs and your system specs...will try to help :)
You can find your system specs thru your system management or going to the
start menu, run, dxdiag, [press the enter key]

one what is giving me a hard time lol I didn't have this floopy drive
problem before but when I got new harddrives for it this problem came up
lol. Oh let me throw out another question for you how do you get power back
to a hardrive when the area you hook the power is gone?

Then I would be thinking of changing the power supply if it doesn't have
auxillary connections. If you need a M/B ide pin arrangement let me know.

That is definately standard. I have NEVER seen a cable without some shade of
red there.

Is there a gap in one of the wires on the cable? I've noticed a lot of
cables missing a piece of a wire, and none of them worked.
