A tourist poll was conducted at the gate but it did not result in much
information. From what I could gather, there was a vote for Yellowstone
being open for build and a vote for Alpha World. I asked Goober King for
help in getting a tourist poll and he advised tourists could vote at the
same poll in which the citizens voted. Although I advertised this at the
gate, there wasn't much response if any.
The results are 62.96 % said they preferred tourists have access to all
worlds, but restricted build rights. However, there are some important
issues that remain. We haven't really heard from an AWI spokesperson
regarding how the company feels that what citizens and tourists want will
affect them. This is very important because since we are not privy to AWI's
day-to-day needs to maintain operation, how do we know that what we are
asking for is reasonable? So, it would be very much appreciated to have a
spokesperson respond how the change we are asking for will affect them.
Also, I am in hopes of and praying that the newsgroup will not be shut down
because of inappropriate comments that happened during the weekend. Noone
likes to be attacked, but I am very much willing to withstand them in order
for change to happen. This newsgroup is our vital link to community.
Please understand that if the newsgroup is shut down, it will adversely
affect not only this issue, but a variety of other important AW issues that
are discussed here on a daily basis. I am in hopes that AWI will see that
the tourists matter needs to be addressed promptly and a fair decision be
made so that this can be put behind us and the community can move forward.

of course tourists do not care about their build rights, because their stuff
can be deleted anyway........

The tourists are just free loaders to the game.

Actually, I was never a tourist, as I came to AW before tourists even
existed... :D
At any rate, I would suggest you shut your hole, Carl. Whether you like
it or not, tourists are the lifeblood of this community and the company
that runs it. Without tourists, AW would die faster than Eep's manners. :P
Therefore, it is in everyone's best interest to care about tourists, and
how they should be treated. After all, why would you want to stay in a
place where no one cares about you?

some ppl seem to be affraid that tourists get too many rights , its not
about making everything free for them , its about showing the AW universe in
full glory , one way is to let tourists back in all privatly owned worlds ,
cause first of all those ppl pay for their world , and its up to decide for
them id they wanna let them in , without paying an extra fee , so they can
kind aimpress tourists how good AW software is , and how good it is to have
own worlds etc , and for one , some ppl like me want to show a RL friend
your world you made in AW , its not needed to buy a cit for that . about the
AW owned worlds thats up to them , my suggestion would be , let them in ,
but disable building for them , thats possible with AW 3.4 . this would make
things better for both us citizens and tourists , and for AWI .
May 12, 2003, 2:33pm
Well, If it wasn't for me being able to go into some worlds when I was a
Tourist I would of never even joined AW. I think the price should be lower
for us world owners to pay for Tourists cause I can not pay the 50 for them.
To get AW to change what they will do you have to hound them for almost a
month with the same qeustion. That is what I do and I get results:) Like
AW is fixing the problem about how I can not send stuff out:) Thank yea

With regards to Company revenue, perhaps.
There seems to be little that can be done about the situation, other than us
trying collectively to get exposure for AW. It seems AWI has made the final
decision regarding tourists and are unlikely to change it. As many have
indicated, AWI is a "company", and it's set up to gain "profit", it seems
obvious that they see changing the current tourist policy as unlikely to
help them financially.
However from my position, What matters to me is that ActiveWorlds no longer
provides me with any enjoyment as a result of the deadness. Every time I
log in I get that sick and depressingly dead ghost town feeling that
honestly makes me want to puke, like if a plague has just ravaged the place.
That said, I had better just accept it, Move on and just let ActiveWorlds
be, rather than continuously hoping for a comeback. Plans to renew are now
on the backburner, Although I can renew, I say to myself, "Why bother?".
As I stated previously, I will Come back when AW recovers (if it ever does).
May 13, 2003, 3:04pm
that is YOUR opinion I Don't think that represents the "tourist" community at all.

After being a tourist for over three years, I fully understand what this
is about, and yes, AW is a ghost town. Pure and simple. People shouldn't
be so worried about tourists getting too many rights. Gray text, builds
that can be deleted, no unique user names, unable to enter certain
worlds because they are tourists...yah...LOADS OF RIGHTS THERE...JUST
LOADS...I am all for bring tourists back into the major worlds, and as
well into the private worlds.
Just my .02
