The Power of the ! Mark

Dec 20, 2000, 7:01pm
Free verse doesn't need iambic pentameter - hell, it doesn't have to have
iambic anything, it can go with any meter. See the word free? Besides,
poetry is worth however long it takes no matter what the topic, especially
one as intelligent but unintelligent as that one. Some people never took
poetry, you know. I'm taking it now. Right now I'm babbling. I got out on
Christmas vacation. I'm not taking poetry RIGHT now, I'm typing right now.
Poetry is fun, deal with it, don't critic it. Author was good. Poem was
good. Witty, I suppose you'd say. Thread it together. Fun. This must be
getting boring. A fun poem for any of you who bothered to wait this long
through my mindless writing.... read the whole thing, don't give up because
it sounds like such drool as the poet even claims it is.

"How to Treat Elves"
by Morris Bishop

I met an elf man in the woods,
The weirdest little elf!
Sitting under a mushroom tall-
'Twas taller than himself!

"How do you do, little elf," I said,
"And what do you do all day?"
"I dance 'n frolic about," said he,
"'N scuttle about and play;

"I surprise the butterflies 'n when
A katydid I see,
'Katy didn't!' I say, and he
says 'Katy did!' to me!

"I hide behind my mushroom stalk
When Mister Mole comes froo,
'N only jus' to frighten him
I jump out 'n say boo!

"'N then I swing on a cobweb swing
up in the air so sigh,
'N the crickets chirp to hear me sing
'Opsy-daisy-die!'

"'N when I play with the baby chicks,
I call them, chick chick chick!
'N what do you think of that?" said he.
I said "It makes me sick."

"It gives me sharp and shooting pains
To listen to such drool."
I lifted up my foot, and squashed
The God damn little fool.

I didn't write the poem, Morris Bishop did. You can tell it isn't mine
because all my poems are straight-out depressing. Winter Solstice is not a
holiday, it is a geographical date (like the first day of summer)

kinda in a pickle...

Dec 25, 2000, 9:15am
The lost and found bot is a legend. Ima Genius is pretending to be
programming one at the moment. What a laugh.

Consider this. I don't know how large AlphaWorld is, so we can just pretend
it's down to 10,000NSEW.
That really makes it 20,000x20,000.

20,000
x20,000
-----------
400000 cells squared. (Cells is the technical term that
bot programmers use to measure NSEW)

400,000 cells each way. A bot scans in sectors. Each sector is a grid of
10x10 cells.

Now, you'll have to forgive my 13-year-old incolence, but even if the
numbers come out wrong because there really is a trick when you divide as
you square, you'll still have good enough numbers to prove my point.

400000
/ 10
--------------
40,000

Assuming that each sector takes about 3 minutes to scan (because they really
do take about that long, especially in used locations) thats 40,000 times 4,
120,000 or 2,000 hours or over 900 days or more than 2 years. Sound fun?
Don't worry, there's more.

The average build has more than 100 objects. That would be equal to about 4
two-story simple houses. How many of those have you built? Now, they don't
give you a "Your house is here" "Your city is here" They spurt out in "I
found a walk001.rwx at 130n 346w" Now, that 100 times, times however many of
those houses you built?
I sure don't want to be the one that tries to find out what that means.

And what about the pains in it? AlphaWorld will eject a bot that comes close
enough to GZ, but since it's on a loop from one corner of the world to the
other, there isn't really much of a way to prevent that (Well, yes there is,
but it might get messy) so blah to the programmer.

It may just be me, but, instead of waiting two years and then digging
through a list of over 100,000 objects, I'd rather just use the Vevo AW Map.
awmap.vevo.com

Any doubts on Ima Genius' claim? I sure have a few.

Sincerly,
Twisted Horizon.
Merry Christmas!

kinda in a pickle...

Dec 28, 2000, 11:11am
5 bots? yeah, if we feel like paying $40.. the average person only feels
like buying one citizenship. I'm also considering that not everyone has T1
lines, and those that do may not be running up to scratch. I'm considering
the average user, not the rich computer nerd. It is possible that you don't
build up to the edge, you know what quadrant it is, you set a trend with
your buildings (nearly all of mine are 1987w), but to tell you the truth I
have no idea where my buildings from 1996 were located. See a problem? I'm
not going to say it's impossible, because it can be done. I do realize my
math is wrong, thanks Rolu, I caught that right after I hit post (oh, well,
can't catch 'em all), and I do realize that it is possible. The circular
idea seems really great, but really, the most believable way to search for
everything would be a for loop that looks like this (I program C++, but I'll
put it in plain english so the people who use other languages can see)

Start at (furthest north) (furthest west)
while (west) doesn't = (furthest east) and (north) doesn't = (furthest
south)
Scan this sector
(furthest west) = (furthest west) + (one sector)
if (west) = (furthest east)
(west) = (furthest west)
(north) = (north) - (one sector)

And that would take some time. That scans the whole world. I am aware that
there are more efficient ways to do this. BLAH! See how much worse my
writing gets immediately after I program? Nasty, Nasty, Nasty! And that was
just fake programming, you can imagine how bad I can really get.

Boston shooting

Dec 28, 2000, 11:44am
Newburyport AND Fall River... both strangely near me (a nice picnic and
all-day bicycle ride up the coast) or half hour drive, whichever sounds
better. I believe I still owe you a visit to my house so we can both run up
and honk E N Z O's nose? Remember that? lol...

Anywho, on the topic of the shooting. Actually, it's more on the topic of
stupid news reporters.
Any of you techies notice how incredibly stupid CNN is? They quoted his
answering machine message

("...Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they have me answering
messages... how depressing..." or something like that)

In reality, this is modified from Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhikers Guide to
the Galaxy" and was said by Marvin the Robot (the Paranoid Android) Which,
by the way, is a great book I'd recommend reading. Stupid CNN :-)
And I can't say I'm surprised to get an answering machine message like that
off of him - Hell, he's a computer programmer, for shame if he had never
read that book (Take that as a warning, you should go to the bookstores all
you bot programmers that haven't read it)

I started posting to community within the past *counts days* since 12/16.

posting in worldbuilders, bots, and sdk since November '99, and found them
because of my world and because I was learning to program bots.

Let me tell you, Agent had all right to do that. If AW didn't want USWF to
post, they sure as hell wouldn't contact you. They most probably haven't
layed a finger on the newsgroups since an old message about cross-posting.
They certainly wouldn't take the time to e-mail you if they had found out
about it. Agent1 is right, and if you don't want to take your respective
beating from Agent1, very well, take it from Goober King or Eep. It'll just
be worse on you....

Recently my dad (Who also happens to be my firewall administrator) found =

then turned back on with a list of tons of Napster ports blocked... =

paying fucking $200 a year for that world, off of no allowance. He said =
that he'd turn on 7777, but then if Napster worked, then I'd just be =

Needless to say, I'm in an unbelievably mad state, but aside from that, =
is there any way to like change ports that I go to things on or =
whatever? It's just making me........ a little mad.
