Max is a HUGE program....... There's most likely a LOT more .cab files
involved than just those 3...... I'm sure he isnt just looking for a free
ride Mark. I'd be willing to bet we've all done dumb things before and not
been careful with install disks and such ;O)

believe it or not, it doesnt take much :O/ i've done it....... the info is
packed so densely on a cd, it doesnt take a very big scratch..... wish
they'd come out with multi head cd units, like they have for home stereos...
they're much better with scratches cause they read from 3 angles....

It's called a "disclaimer statement" when you read the disclaimer and click
the usual "yes, to agree" that means that you agree to the requirements and
have stated that you're 18 or over... or that you've gotten a parent to
consent and sign up for you..... This IS a legal method of protecting
themselves from breaking the law, since you are technically "signing" the
agreement and stating, under penalty of law, that the information YOU
provide is valid and correct and indemnify the company. This is
essentially a legally binding "contract" between you and the company the
minute you DO click that "yes, to agree"

See, if you lie and it goes to court, it gets thrown out on the basis that
you falsely provided proof of your age, etc. and they are not liable for any
damages. In turn, you can even be charged with a crime "in extreme cases"
FOR presenting false information about your identity, age, etc. etc. The
company could even countersue you for the losses involved with the suit, eg.
lost financial gain due to time required to appear in court, lost wages for
any testifying employees, all legal fees (for the lawyer) and court
costs.... And they would have a pretty darn good case against you, because
you intentionally lied and misled them for your own gains, whatever they may
be........

It pays to always read the "fine print" whenever you sign up for something,
purchase a service, etc. etc. you'd be amazed at how you can be legally
liable for the most stupid of things.......

Ignore him Zeo...... It seems to me, that If you actually DO have the option turned off in OE to start AIM, yet it still turns on,
something is amiss..... Most likely you'll find it's a setting that's not been written to the registry correctly...... god bless
microsoft, how I love their quirky software.... You can use REGEDIT.EXE to go in and nose around in
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Identities\{xxx-some big encrypted #-xxx}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 (or 4.0, whatever)\ ass't
folders..... and look at the various settings assigned to certain things.. I'm sure there's one in there that says something about
AIM startup...... for instance, here's one as an example " PlaySoundOnNewMail 0x00000001 (1) " obviously we can see what
that's for.... now if you notice that last number (1) that tells OE to play the sound as 1=on and 0=off when you get new mail. You
can change the value by right clicking and picking 'modify' and entering a 1 or a 0 respectively...... I'd bet that if you can find
the correct entry regarding AIM startup, you'll find it's still set to 1 (on) instead of 0 (off)

Now mind you, editing the registry is not something to take lightly.... not at all.... one little screw up and you're toast......
puter might not even startup again..... ALWAYS backup the registry BEFORE you do anything ! I can't stress this enough...... and If
you've never done any reg editing before, Don't.... get someone who has to give you a hand, as the results can pretty much suck, if
you make a mistake........ and not pleasant to fix at all

yes, I have OE 6 also but it says 5 in the registry... I believe it depends on what version was originally installed with the OEM
operating system.... As mine (WinME) came with OE5, thats what the registry says, regardless that I've upgraded to 6 since
then......

Sorry this didn't help more :O/ don't know what else to recommend since the value was already set to 0 (off) in your registry......
