New AWNewbie Website!

Sep 15, 2003, 5:36am
[View Quote] Well, MrBruce, you might actually want to reply to the right post for
starters. I did not mention A!!CT at all, just Starfleet's name and
his... great post.

Quality does not equal quality. I could make 1000000 shirts poorly
that'd last 2 weeks, but there's a lot of them, or I could make 100
really good shirts... that'd last you a life time. Which would you
rather have? A!!CT has a community, sure, but it's nowhere near the
scale of AWTeen. If I can be frank... the people in A!!CT tend to be
weirdo goth teen types who seclude themselves from society (both online
and IRL).

By the way, I don't care for AWTeen either. Much more than A!!CT
though... only because Chanty and Poseidon don't go wacky on the
newsgroups about things.

I do like your shameful promoting of your world. Fresh, yo.

No. Dinosaurs were big boned, maybe even Neanderthals... but a human is
fat. Bigger bones = bigger muscles, not bigger fatness... faterness...

Image Merror Script

Sep 25, 2003, 5:52pm
[View Quote] Actually, the TOS is fuzzy. One cannot link to an image that is not
linked via a webpage hosted on tripod. That's what I gathred from their
TOS a long while ago. So, this could mean that you could not remotely
load it as a <IMG SRC=...> file unless it's via tripod or not. But,
here's the thing, what if you download the image and then save it
locally - and then view it? You can do it with save as with internet
explorer and that's _exactly_ what AW is doing. So, it's iffy. Do you
consider create picture synonyms to <IMG SRC=> or do you consider it
equal to right clicking and saving. I believe in the latter. If you're
providing free services you better make sure it applies to all ways of
"gathering" pictures.

AWI needs a depertment that develops what goes into the next versions
and how they'll be implemented. It's obvious that no one thinks things
through and really needs to rely on the public beta to fix design flaws.

UnDocked Tabs...

To be truthfull, only idiots make a floater for a full screen
application. What is really a genius design is to actually draw the
window inside the viewport and allow the user to hide, shrink, make
opaque, etc. This way it would allow users to have a non-fullscreen
version without all the cluttering windows.

Like most games do, they don't draw windows on top of windows, they use
the parent window to contain all their data -- this is the basis of full
screen games. Hey, it'd even look nicer and be a lot easier to
implement skins this way.

How are you even coming up with this stuff? There's a clear difference
between moving forward and moving backward, side to side, etc. Even if
I covered up all but the bottom half of my screen I could tell the
difference.

This all comes back to the floating window again, make it attach to the
window and not float.

[View Quote] Would be great if the water wasn't treated as a giant collection of
polygons and the "show water under terrain" option was well thought out.
Don't get me wrong, not a whole lot of things were well thought out in
this version, but, one one clicks "don't show water under terrain" you
don't expect to see the same results from 3.4. You'd expect that no
water under terrain means that no matter WHERE the water is, if you're
under the terrain and below water height you don't get the "underwater"
visability options. This feature was as sadly dissapointing as the tab
feature. Well played.

The UI has become worse in my opinion. :-\

[View Quote] [View Quote] I'm surprised they haven't thought of such a function. When developing
a totally new UI, most developers put in a "classic" option to not
alienate users who've grown used to the older style.

Just an example of not thinking things through before implementing it. :-\

Yeah it totally gets in the way. :( Other than that, it's a pleasant
upgrade. Aside from the IRC like qualities of the /me command. I hate
that, it's so annoying.

[View Quote] Again, you are misunderstanding, I want it to be PART of the parent
window, not a floater that gets in the way. I have other things open
besides AW. The tab cannot cover the render window and cannot be in any
other part of the view. Otherwise it breaks my use of the software.
Sure, when my other windows are on top it moves out of the way, but
sometimes they're not.

My main concern is lack of WSAD keys!

Feb 4, 2004, 3:33pm
[View Quote] > I keep pressing W in chat sometimes. They need WSAD!

Stop playing halflife too much. Or, simple solution, in the game that
you play that uses WASD, convert it to the arrow keys. It's a much
cleaner use due to the fact that WASD is almost never aligned correctly
on keyboards, but the arrow keys are.

My main concern is lack of WSAD keys!

Feb 4, 2004, 4:06pm
[View Quote] You must not be using a standard keyboard, the W is slightly to the left
on most standard keyboards. (because there are more keys on the top row
then the home row).

Adapt to the situation carl, you're not a robot. I'm used to hitting y
before I type something, but no problems yet.
