Deer Bot

Feb 9, 1999, 10:07pm
I think Animal bots are a GREAT idea for AW. It would allow much more
interesting things to be seen outside of small worlds building limitations,
as avatars can go well beyond them. Like the tree idea posted above, they
could grow into HUGE areas in even the smallest worlds because if they are
actually avatars then building limitations have no effects on them. Just be
sure to keep them low vert guys! Don't want to overload the smaller systems
too much! heh heh.

That is why there should be a larger bot limit if a user has caretaker
rights in the world they are to be used.

Current limit is 3 bots per cit number.

Humm, seeing if this mail program will finally post with the name I
specified!!

Also, another good idea for aw would be AV change hotspots. go into an area
set up by world owners, and your av is changed, or you receive an alternate
list. this could be useful when people fall in water spots etc, they turn
into fish, or get to choose from a list of fish. That way you don't get ppl
walking around underwater, or birds flying under there..haha

Custom avs are here! - yippee!

Nov 26, 1998, 5:01pm
Dean, first off I think you need to just calm down a little, c'mon man,
breathe...IN and out...yes that's it .. relax ... your freedoms aren't being
compromised yet, so just chill on the revolution.

Ok next, I think custom avs should be aloud in any world, why? Like I said,
your avs working in some worlds but not others would pretty much render the
feature pointless.

If you want to keep your worlds in theme, I suggest a sign telling users to
please use the avatars selected. OR bring in only avatars having to do with
that theme. If you think about it this could lead to a fuller, richer
environment for the users. Wouldn't your world be popular if it was made
like old west - all the users with cowboy/cowgirl fetishes would want to
hang out there in their avs wouldn't they?

Also, the eject command still works...if you do happen to see a random
offence to your ocular organs you can just zip em outta there. And that
idea from grover about banning their URL's...genius!

World setting to toggle cust avs could be added too, but I think, like I
said before, this would probably lead to a lot less traffic for those worlds
restricting user personalization.

Ok l8tes

Custom avs are here! - yippee!

Nov 30, 1998, 4:59am
I totally agree with Klassi here, cust avs will get put off if there are a
lot of problems with it. Once it is in, there is often a high chance of
getting custom modifications implemented.

Re: Custom avs are here! - yippee!

Nov 26, 1998, 4:15am
Ok I have been reading this thread for the last couple days, its pretty
funny but let me try and get it a little bit more on track......

Custom avs? I believe they ARE coming. And about Josh's first comment
about them perhaps not being implemented because they could lead to obscene
nature and material in AW...That could and probably will happen, (obscene
avs) but you need to remember that AW DOES have that kind of material all
over it. If you notice some of the signs by Ground Zero they basically
state that viewer discretion is advised.

And here is a brief summary of the way custom avs MIGHT work according to
Roland:

1, they will be located on the users personal web server

2, they will go through an auto screening process by AW browser when they
download to insure that they meet specific guidelines, E.G., file size,
Geometry size, and vert/polygon count.

3, they WILL be aloud in ALL worlds, because what is custom avs if they work
in some worlds but not others? And I believe this would be hurting the
worlds that disallow them anyay, I mean would users want to stay in a world
where they could not wear what they want? So it is going to be a setting
that is in the UNIVERSE box, not the world.

Alright thats about it, catcha later. And stop squabbling. Buh bye then

-raiven-

Answer from Roland

Dec 1, 1998, 7:41pm
Wow that's weird, because when he first told me in Beta(The world beta) few
months ago, he said it was going to be universe based. After I said would
it be toggled in worlds? he told me that it would be universe based,
otherwise we would get cust avs that work in some worlds but not others.
that's pretty much exactly what he told me (I am paraphrasing of course)
Guess he changed his mind.

later
-raiven-

Also, about grovers post, I asked if we could use more than one cust av at a
time, and he said something like "Oh shoot, more than one? well that pretty
much throws a wrench in all my plans" Who knows if he is going to try for
more than one? or just stick with his plans, which have probably changed
anyway.

Wishlist FAQ?

Dec 16, 1998, 4:18am
This might actually be a good idea, although it would require a lot of work.
Anyway it would be good because it would be a more discernable list of
demands set by the AW community....and there could even be a top ten list of
the most sought after new features. Roland only adds one he thinks are most
wanted, which may or may not be actually the most popular. A clearer way of
showing what is really the most popular could bring about the implementation
of our fav features all the sooner. And also we would then have our own
copy of "the list" for us to gripe about :)

Ok so its a bit different then what that guy originally posted about...but
its a kewl anyway.

lattas!

Wishlist FAQ?

Dec 17, 1998, 6:23am
The >quoted> is the seemingly last message that is staying on subject...

Why don't you guys just ignore posts that seem to have no other reason then
to insight instigation. I read Eep's post and was just like "Oh great now
the whole thread that started out well, is going to be full of posts
regarding these types of comments, and 'who said what', 'no that's not
true', I did not say that', 'how dare you!', and blah blah blah" Then I
thought "Well maybe they just ignored it? Nah -- but you know what? that
would be a good idea"

(raiven waits as he is sure there will be posts from Eep declaring how he is
merely stating his opinion. And how this IS a place to discuss opinions blah
blah)

Ok so you have a right to your opinion. I am just saying if it serves no
purpose then to distract from our current discussion, and state your
complaints, please post it into a diff thread called "COF pisses me off" or
SOMETHING. :) Thanks

Custom objects in any world is on the list along with custom avatars in any
world, although it may be released sometime after custom avatars. After
all, once they do the auto filtering system to disallow avatars that don't
meet the requirements set, what is stopping them from using that same system
with custom objects?

AV Making Programs

Lifeforms does seqs and has a limited library of model geometry(figures,
some animals, etc).

Yes you can export the geometry if you want, but it's just what they give
you.

As far as I know Lifeforms has no creation capability of new objects.

Plus it sux, I am sorry, but it does, its more crash prone than a wheeless
car launched from a catapult driven by dodo's.

For modeling avatars I highly recommend 3DSTUDIO MAX 2.5 (3 is better, but
only 2.5 has rwx export plugin)

Old review

May 20, 2001, 3:45pm
Humm *ponders* It had to be May 24th 1996 cuz according to AW I registered
on the 25th. I was up in my room about to go to bed, when I suddenly
decided to watch a little TV. I turned on the TV and put it on the
discovery channel (I think) and watched beyond 2000 (I think, or a show like
it) and at the end they had a tiny clip of worlds chat and activeworlds.
MAN I just about flipped, it looked soo cool I could hardly wait till
morning. But I did. So in the morning (was it after school?) or afternoon
I downloaded and played in both worlds chat and activeworlds. Guess which
one maintained my interest? lol.

I wandered around in a day of extreme discovery, bumping into someone was
amazing, cuz there weren't too many users on and there were no personal
teleports so if they weren't at GZ finding them wandering around wasn't
easy. Luckily there were a few around some of the main attractions.
Eventually I found this cool fountain out in the middle of nowhere, and
thought it was so cool I claimed it for myself, standing on top of it
yelling at anyone that passed by to get away from my fountain. lol

Anyway I met someone named Mr E Nigma, and he brought me out to his area and
taught me how to build. I still have that spot and built my very first
temple there. love that place :) even tho the gradual change of some of the
original aw objects has messed up parts of it.

My very first creation, was a large wall that enclosed an area. I still
haven't found that place again - somewhere not too far from GZ.

I wonder what happened to Mr E Nigma. He was very helpful.

I owe AW a lot, it started me in a lot of my various graphics fields as well
has facilitated a lot of extracurricular growth. Hell a job I worked at for
2 years was from someone I met in AW and was contracting work out in my
area.

Kudos to AW and the many more years of entertainment and education you'll
bring!

If you've read this far - CYA IN AW! -raiven
