Actually capt there is a program like that for RC codes as well as a webpage
with nothing but the codes and their meaning. Used to have the program until
I had a HD wipe (original cause for my little vacation from AW). Can't
remember where it its but I do remember it was called RC look up.

marcus this isn't for the porn stuff this is for those newbies that don't
even know the rules. So please don't bring that now dead topic into this
particular thread.

Be happy that the porn is gone. And leave the rest be.

Simple there are a few PK that are idiots and don't give a damn. Though most
are helpful, some would more likely eject you rather than look at you.

You got to know which PKs to talk to.

marcus I wasn't critizing you I was trying to help by pointing out
information you may have missed.

Even I forgot to add in abuse at activeworlds.com and Factor was good enough to
remind us about that one.

It also reminded me a general given about ISPs if you see something like
spam smut or what ever that is offensive try sending an email to
abuse at ISPname and you'll usually get some response.

Though how I could forget that when I had to program a macro to
automatically send the 2000 daily spams I get to the abuse department of the
domain they come from, is a surprise to me.

marcus the porn is gone, you don't have to make this into an obsession. Not
everyone wants to hear about porn this and porn that all the time.

And don't forget porn is only on the internet because it makes lots of
money. But banning it won't make it go away it will only cause it to hide
more and become more appealing to the mushrooms that get hooked by it.

Actually syli I rarely get in envolved in flame wars. Except for a few
issues were people were being flamed for just existing (Gor) and the world
theft issues.

Basically the rules are not set in stone. Yes we debate like crazy in this
newsgroup, cause its the community and in communities people debate often.

For awhile even Eep tried to tone his remarks down. And started giving
warnings before he pulled out the big guns.

But there are lots of new people here who aren't bothering to even try to
get along. True Eep and I have ended up on opposite sides of some real
heated battles. But even though I don't like him (and believe me I don't), I
still respect him.

What the newer posters don't seem to understand is that 1) Respect is the
most important thing here. Without earning the respect of the people who
were here before and listening to them when they try to help, you end up in
situations of perpetual flame wars.

2) All newsgroups have house rules, that the older more experienced members
will try to pass on to the new less experienced (at least as how that ng is
run) newbies. Sometimes those rules can be bent, but if you break them
prepare to get burned.

3) Learn how to win (or loose gracefully) keep a topic to a few threads as
possible, don't drag it into every thread that is created just cause you
want people to read it. We can't do anything to change anything except whats
inside this ng. We will point you to where your supposed to go, thats not
passing the buck but giving you the infomation you need.

4) After a point let it die. After a time topics grow old and people no
longer want to hear about it. Remember many have limited bandwidth (a few
lucky ones like me have cable but I hope you get the point) so they can't
afford to download 99999999999999999999 posts on smurfs if the ng is about
dolphins for example. Why not try your hand at HTML and make a webpage that
covers all your arguments and put a link to it in your sig file. Its saves
bandwidth and you can write as much as you want on the topic. And you won't
get flamed for wasting bandwith.

5) Limit your posts to plain text. There are many people who's newsreaders
cant read HTML posts or who get charged by how much bandwidth is used.
Unless a ng has binaries in the address, you should keep your posts to plain
text. Why have a file nearly a mb in size when it can be just as easily be 2
or 3k with the same amount of text.

Believe me once they get the newbies to follow the house rules things get
back to normal (at least normal for this place *rolls his eyes*) and we are
able to be more productive.

Its only when people don't follow those general guidelines that there is a
flame fest.

Basically if you try to stay polite and give the old timers the respect they
have earned for lasting so long, then things should go relatively smooth.

I use powweb for 7.77 a month you get absolutely everything you could think
of including unlimited bandwith and a minimum of 70mb of space which for an
extra charge you can expand.

They have no setup fees for their package, though they do charge to have
MySQL added. You can run any CGIs you want and host anything you want as
long as it isn't an adult site.

http://www.powweb.com

it may be a charge service but its worth it.
