Except for this story, eh? You seem pretty anxious to keep it under wraps even though
Gand AND Flagg AND Stacee have been talking about this project openly since last
December! Maybe you need to improve your communication skills between all AWCom
employees so everyone knows what's supposed to stay secret and what's not. :P

Oh, and btw, you might as well give up trying to cover up this one, as you're cover's
already been well blown by Moff Piett, hence my AWNews.com reference *grin*

[View Quote] Umm, no, not really? I'm not covering anything ?

Its just that the information is incomplete - they dont even know what is
going to happen with it - there is *no* decision on what is going to be done
with it....my communications skills are perfect, they sit a few meters away
from me - but, that story is very misleading in that it makes the assumption
that this world is going to be coming out any day now, that it is finished,
and that it is a completed project and we know exactly that is going to be
done with it - when it is not anywhere near being a realised project, and
you guys shouldnt expect it any time soon - in a few months yes, but in a
month or even weeks? No way...

Thats all =)

I don't think anyone was suggesting that it would be coming out within a matter of
days. In fact, neither here in this NG, nor in the AWNews article, does anyone make
any mention of a release date; only that it is "uncertain". Not sure where you got
the idea that we thought it was coming out in a month...

And in case you were wondering, the reason we speculate is because when it *does*
come out, we want to know if it'll be the same as it is in it's current state.
Perhaps a trip to Psychology 101 is in order?

Alot of telegrams from users saying that they wanted it right now and they
thougt it was going to be released any day now, which is what the article on
awnews.com implies without saying it *shrugs*

> And in case you were wondering, the reason we speculate is because when it

No, it wont be in its current state as far as I know, it is not complete.

> Perhaps a trip to Psychology 101 is in order?

Why ? I dont understand - when I am merely providing you with facts in a
situation that you only even know about 8second hand* ? I am first hand
information...I just dont get it, I'm merely trying to be helpful in
providing you with the correct information.

I dont know, honestly, I am trying here to be truthful, and succinct in my
dealings with you guys in here, but none of you make it very easy - would
you prefer I lied and just made up things to please you all other than
telling you the truth? Moff Piet is not a part of AW. He does not attend out
staff meetings. Gand does _not_ attend our staff meetings, he is a contract
worker and builds artwork for the company, so therefore is not privy to
everything going on here and the plans for certain things. The AWBuild
project is on hold at this point in time - if anyone actually knows stuff
about this and can share it with you, its _me_. I'm not covering, or
anything, just thoughtfully laying down some facts for your information in
this subject.

*sigh*

Let me explain something to you, Facter. Maybe then you'll understand what you're
dealing with here, since you suddenly seem to have forgotten.

We, as a community, have had to put up with all manner of lies, broken promises, and
blatant ambivalence from COF for YEARS! We've had to deal with YEARS of watching our
ideas and concerns get consistently IGNORED! We've had to deal with YEARS of watching
Rick & JP RENEGE on previous promises! We've had to put up with YEARS of community
NEGLECT, where some of COF's most prized possessions now lay in ruins, a mere shadow
of their former glory! While a few of us have been rather vocal about all this, the
majority of users simply see this neglect and turn right around and walk out, only to
be replaced by another sucker, thereby keeping COF's checkbook balanced.

Now suddenly you come along. You say you're here to provide us with a voice. You say
you're here to listen to our concerns. Not only that, but that you're doing on your
own time and of your own volition! What do you want, a cookie? This is what SHOULD
have been happening years ago! Just because you, Facter, (not to be confused with
AWCom) happen to be paying attention to what's going on here doesn't somehow make all
of those years of neglect, arrogance, and apathy go away. You can put all the similey
faces you want on it, throw out all the "coming soon!"s and "in the works!" all you
want, and keep telling everyone their concerns *are* being heard. But until we start
seeing RESULTS, until we start seeing our concerns being put into action, then all
your words mean SQUAT!

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what you're trying to do. But it's too little, too
late. After all, what good is it if you're passing on our concerns to the Big Boys,
only to have them ignore YOU too? Don't believe me? Just take a look at those "juicy"
tidbits about 3.2. Notice how many times the word "corporate" appears in that little
page. Now, you tell me where their true interest lies. Yes, OpenGL and NT support are
good things to have, and that's not my complaint. My complaint is with their
intentions. Why can't they also throw in a couple user-suggested features, features
that have been suggested for YEARS by MULTIPLE people, along with all those corporate
ones?

I'll tell you why: Because our concerns are not their concerns. To them, we're just
another $20, something to fall back on in case one of their big contracts falls
through. Think differently? Fine, then show us PROOF! Show us that our concerns are
actually being addressed AND being carried out! Otherwise, you're nothing but hot
air.

So pass this little message onto good ol' Rick & JP at that next staff meeting: Start
listening to us, you're so-called "valued" customers, or we'll stop listening to
you...

One way to make them listen is to simply not sign up next year for anything
that would require you to pay them. Sign in and use their tourist feature
until you see it operate the way you want it to. That's what I intend on
doing when my citizenship runs out. I have only been here for 6 months and I
have seen the shabby service you are talking about. I feel sorry for you
veterans who waited on promises, I would have told you then they would never
come through. Until Active Worlds incorporates ideas and suggestions, they
will only have themselves to service.

But I don't pay already. ;)

We could boycott by not testing the AW 3.2 beta when it's released to the "closed" beta test, not going to TechTalk, taking down out AW websites, going to AWGate, AW, and JunoDome (oops, it's already dead--nevermind) and talking about AWCI's failed promises and corporate ass-kissing. Then perhaps Rick and JP would listen...but I doubt it. Their heads are so far up their corporate bed buddies' asses they can't even hear the people, who AW is based on and actually MADE AW what it is today, shouting and screaming at them.

Emailing all the corporations AW has and is making deals with could help too. I've done that ever since AWCI came into being. :)

World owners could turn their worlds private (or take them down completely).

Boycotts would be nice, if they actually worked. The problem is, even if we took down
all our sites and all our worlds and didn't go to any of the events, I don't think
Rick or JP would even blink. Why should they? They had nothing to do with these sites
or worlds or events to begin with. If we were to boycott that way, it'd be just like
putting sanctions on Cuba: We'd be hurting the people, but not the people in charge.
:P

The only real boycott that would have any effect would be a boycott in the wallet
department. That means *not* renewing citizenships, *not* renewing worlds, and
telling tourists to *not* sign up until changes are made. And we would need to have
quite a lot of people involved for AWCI to notice; can't just be a few prominent
citizens.

Hey, I'll do it if I know that everyone else involved is committed to doing it. So
who's up for it?

Well, once the people are hurting they'll bitch and moan to AWCI who will get sick of hearing about how all their once-thriving "community" was and then hopefully stop, listen, and change how they do things.

You forget one thing.

I have been a citizen of AW since 1996 - and I was one of the most vocal
people against this companies policies at times, why do you tihnk I came to
work here in the first place, if not to try and improve the things that I
saw? Dont you think that may of also been a factor in their accepting my job
application (besides my technical skills)? - they knew very well my stance
on things, and that I disagreed with the way they did some things
sometimes, and sometimes I *still* disagree, and voice my opinion in our
meetings. But, its also my opinion that *I* have contributed to make things
a little better for everything and everyone, the community AND the company.
I've done a good job and I *have* brought up alot of concerns with my bosses
that I have taken from *you*, because like it or not, I came from the same
place.

Have you forgotten that ?

Perhaps you missed the point of my little rant there. I was not questioning YOUR
contributions. I've said it many times before: I DO appreciate what you're trying to
do, I really do. I'm glad that at least *someone* is taking the time to listen to us
piss and moan about this and that, and I'm glad that at least YOU are doing what you
can for us.

The problem I have is not with you. It's not with Roland, or Flagg, or even Lucrezia.
It's solely with the two people who are in the driver's seat and who are effectively
ignoring everyone around them, including you and the rest of the AWCom staff: Rick
and JP. Yes, you voice your concerns and opinions at board meetings, but exactly how
much stock do you think they have in your opinions? I would hazard to guess that they
don't think much higher of your opinions than they do ours. Look at it this way: If
they aren't even listening to their lead programmer, who I'd like to think is a
little higher up on the AWCI food chain than you are, what makes you think they'll
listen to you?

Now I'm not suggesting that you stop helping the community and go on strike or
something. (although that might be affective) But change needs to start happening,
from the top down. Otherwise this company will continue to flounder, until eventually
it just dies from exhaustion...

why would they suddenly start caring if those orgs went away and people started
complaining about it? If ComReg or Info Squares or AWSchool were to close up and go
away, Rick or JP would just shrug and go back to signing their next contract. No loss
for them.

Heh, if it makes you feel any better, I was a citizen in late 96, and my citship runs
out in 2002. And I've only paid for my citship twice in that amount of time. And I
have no idea where all this free time is coming from... Someone's been adding to my
