AWGor Age Restrictions // Communityanduin lotharioFeb 16, 2001, 7:08pm
Hi All,
I have just come up with a slight problem about GOrean worlds... I know lots of you out there are against Gor, but please bare with me... Gor worlds must be rated 18+. And I feel that actually "asking" for age, as phalaphe will agree with me, is invasion of privacy. Is it required to ask for the persons age, or is it good enough to have your world rating at X, have your immigration officer or bots give out a notice about your world being 18+ only, and may contain adult content, and if they are under 18 to please leave the world? Is this a good enough world feature instead of asking for age? Because either way, anyone can lie, telling them that the world is adults only makes it their responsibility.... PLease, I need some input on this... Asking for someone's age isn't really an invasion of privacy, especially because it's used to make sure only adults enter the world.
I agree that both options include the possibility of false information, but if someone can *really* convince you that they're an adult... dunno. -Agent1 [View Quote] kahFeb 16, 2001, 8:35pm
rate it X, that's kinda REQUIRED for adult worlds, and ask for age...I
wouldn't lie on that anyway (maybe that's cuzz I'm smart! :-)) ) KAH [View Quote] andrasFeb 16, 2001, 9:38pm
I'm not a Gor fan myself but the policy (asking your age) seems a correct way to go.
Of course you still have to maintain the "X" rating for those worlds. Andras [View Quote] lanezeriFeb 16, 2001, 9:51pm
Hey AL.. I can make a bot that asks the person's age when they enter and
will warn them if they do not respond and then eject them if you'd like :o] anduin lotharioFeb 17, 2001, 1:51am

Thanks for the offer, but I've just got mine telling them to leave if under
18. And if they stay I usually ask if they are over 18, nothing more than that. I don't enjoy ejecting people, I'd rather they left quietly on their own. Thanks again <smiles> Sincerely, Anduin Lothario -- AW Community Register www.awcommunity.org/awcomreg daphneFeb 17, 2001, 6:05am
I have a few comments:::
Lots of kids easily lie about being 18+ and quite convincingly too... Will the low-lifes of "gor" worlds even notice clues that someone is not adult before that someone is witness to a "slave" being ordered down on all fours and being publically "taken" by a so-called "master"??? I think not!!! Before you say it's not "really" happening, let me remind you that words have power; written or voiced... Power to influence... Power to harm... Power to degrade... Power to instill beliefs or to take away beliefs.. Power to create lasting visuals... We may not take our avatars into Real Life with us but words and interactions online can and do influence us to an extent even after the computer is turned off -- moreso if you are young and impressionable... I don't feel any decent human beings would even participate in "gor" worlds... Anyone that believes that, or even "plays" that, any part of the human race is sub-human slave material degrades ALL human beings... Period... I don't think "gor" worlds should be allowed to exist in ActiveWorlds... To me, those worlds being allowed here is on the same level that allowing Klu Klux Klan worlds or Nazi/White Supremacist worlds would be... What happened to AWCOM's rules about discrimination??? The low-life "gor" participants discriminate against females or encourage being discriminated against... They say they aren't harming anyone... I say, sure, they aren't harming anyone, any more than the belief that having dark skin makes you sub-human harmed anyone --- and we know how unfair and how very wrong that is and how many generations of blacks and other races suffered because of it and some are still suffering... (Need I remind some of you about 5 bodies found stuffed in barrels in the midwest??? This harmful "gor" crap does reach into Real Life from the internet...) This "gor" crap IS harmful to society as a whole and by extension, harmful to the AW society... I will never understand why some ppl stand by and let it happen and I will stand against those who embrace it... [View Quote] anduin lotharioFeb 17, 2001, 9:31am

I was trying to start some argument about Gor or anything, but I don't see
your problem here... I simply asked about the age asking and so forth. I don't need more stupidity and another flamed thread... In AW in particular, sorry to say, most of the slaves are wanting to be submissive and have a great understanding of Gor, it is how and who they are. > I don't feel any decent human beings would even participate in "gor" > worlds... Anyone that believes that, or even "plays" that, any part of the > human race is sub-human slave material degrades ALL human beings... > Period... There are lots of very descent human beings participating in Gor. I mean, I know AWSchool Teachers, Peace Keepers and even Gate Keepers who are Gorean! > I don't think "gor" worlds should be allowed to exist in ActiveWorlds... To > me, those worlds being allowed here is on the same level that allowing Klu > Klux Klan worlds or Nazi/White Supremacist worlds would be... What > happened to AWCOM's rules about discrimination??? The low-life "gor" > participants discriminate against females or encourage being discriminated > against... That's just over the top. I mean, read the books by John Norman before thinking we are anything like this. > (Need I remind some of you about 5 bodies found stuffed in barrels in the > midwest??? This harmful "gor" crap does reach into Real Life from the > internet...) Hey, need I remind you that bodies are found everywhere, and that does not have to have anything to do with Gor. People that do this are SICK and PSYCHO'S! It happens all around the world, 5 bodies from a Gorean man. How many billions of bodies from others? Even those without any particular lifestyle besides being on drugs. Whoever killed those 5 bodies was wrong, they set a bad name for Goreans. But seriously, you wont find many like that. And if so, look around your neighbourhood for some sick psycho's who could do the same. The Internet is the same everywhere, doesn't have to be GOR! > This "gor" crap IS harmful to society as a whole and by extension, harmful > to the AW society... I will never understand why some ppl stand by and let > it happen and I will stand against those who embrace it... Harmful? I don't see any harm it has done in AW. I mean, we have our age limits, if someone wants to lie about their age and we don't find out, then so be it. It is their own responsibility, sure isn't mine. If a 13 year old came into my world and said he/she was 29 for example... how could I know. He/she stuffed his/herself up and is responsible for his/herself. If I give a notice saying my world is 18+ (Adults Only) and may contain sexual content including slavery, if under 18, please leave NOW. I think it is sufficient. Anymore to say? Don't bother posting it here, it's a pain in the backside. Read the Books of Gor by John Norman, written since 1966, there's around 25 of them in the series. Maybe you will enjoy them. Anduin Lothario P.S: oh, see, I also work with AWComreg, big deal if I am Gorean. I also work at an ISP, I'm Gorean in R/l. It doesn't stop me, does it? I haven't treated ANY women with dis-respect. And I keep my lifestyle at private as much as I can. -- AW Community Register www.awcommunity.org/awcomreg iceyFeb 17, 2001, 11:11am
One of the things I have noticed about the Net it's that it is more looking like
the 'Old Far West' rather than the 'Future Communicating System', it's fun to see how the old mankind it is still the same..maybe we are more looking like people from 2,000 years ago than the future beigns icey [View Quote] [View Quote] roluFeb 17, 2001, 7:18pm

I think rating at X and using a bot to tell everyone who enters something
like "you MUST be 18 years or older to be in this world. If you are younger, leave now" is enough. If someone stays after this warning, it's their own problem. If you want to go for asking, you don't have to ask for someone's age. Asking if someone is 18 or older is enough. That way nobody has to give their age away. What is gor anyway? rolu imagineFeb 18, 2001, 4:09pm
> I don't feel any decent human beings would even participate in "gor"
> worlds... Anyone that believes that, or even "plays" that, any part of the > human race is sub-human slave material degrades ALL human beings... > Period... I'm wondering just how many of your good and decent friends, who you associate with every day in AW, actually have a seperate account to use in the Gor worlds. I'm wondering how many of your good and decent friends were offended by what you said. I'm betting you think that none of your friends are Gorean. I'm also betting that if you dig around you will find out that you have Gorean friends and didn't even know it. :) Imagine [View Quote] datedmanFeb 23, 2001, 4:27am
I say bring on the Nazis, the KKK, the Goreans, oh yah and even let those
PURITAN FREAKS WHO THINK THEY KNOW HOW WE ALL SHOULD LIVE to have worlds. :) Not that I like Nazis...but I like a society in which they are allowed to be what they are. Because suppressing things doesn't cure them. And there are no hard lines, so once you can say "no nazis" or "no Goreans" you can also say "no middle-aged washed-up hippies" and then *I'm* in the gas chamber. :) [View Quote] > I have a few comments::: > > Lots of kids easily lie about being 18+ and quite convincingly too... I really dont write back to these comments on here. I dont think most of
them are worth talking back to.. but i do have a side to both AL and Daphne comments on Gor .. now AL is right about kids lying about there age.. and i do see where that could be a problem.. not many people know about a Gor life style.. only over the top.. Not saying I am Gor.. But i do know some things about it.. enough to know what it is.. Most of the people i have come across on AW are younger then 18. And to get in to some worlds they do lie, Not saying any names, but that is a problem. I do agree with Daphne, Gor is a very harmfull life style if not lived with there rules and laws. And AW is "suppose to be" safe and fun, but like eveything its not. I just really think it should be more private and setrice. m a r c u sApr 8, 2001, 11:16pm
Does AW allow people to buy a citizenship without a credit card? Assuming
the answer is no, then to have a citizenship you have to be at some age. If a parent bought one for their child, then I would say allow people in the world. The owner can always ban them from the world if they misbehave. If parents don't want their child there, then they should monitor what the child does on the computer more. It isn't our job to babysit. I have met a lot of good and not so good teens. Again I stress, if it anyone regardless of age disrupts a world, then the owner can ban them. Base your actions on behavior not age. I think you will find this more successful [View Quote] m a r c u sApr 8, 2001, 11:19pm
OK try again. How come sometimes my replies don't show up here?
I will type my response again and this tiem COPY it if it doesn't work LOL, errr Does AW require payment by credit card? If so, doesn't that assume someone of a certain age acquired the account? If it was a parent buying one for a child, then that child should be judged based on their actions, not age. If they misbehave, have the owner simply ban them. I think you will find this a better resolution then trying to enforce age checks. [View Quote] 2muchcoffeeApr 8, 2001, 11:27pm
I havent ever wrote back to these comments in the newsgroups. First most
of them are a much of crap and most people have stupid comments back. But when it come to safety I do take things seriously. Now, I agree with Daphne and AL. I have a few comments myself about AW having Gor worlds. I know what a Gor life style is. I am not saying I am a Gor. But I know more then most people know about a Gor life style. I agree with Daphne that it is a very harmful life style. Its only harmful if not follow by there rules or some may say "laws." Most of the people I know on AW are under 18. And some do lie about being under 18 to get into world. I am not nameing names. But I know a some people. And AL is right. Its easy to lie about your age. And put up an act. And AW is "suppose to be" a fun and safe game. But like life. We cant sugar coat everything. I am not going as far as to take off all Gor world from AW. But I do think they should be more private and stricter. 2muchcoffeeApr 8, 2001, 11:45pm
sorry i have 2 things up there. my comptuer said the first one didnt send..
so i wrote another one.. lol my bad m a r c u sApr 9, 2001, 2:46am
Why does AW have it set up this way?
It is very hard to use the board the way it is. I don't know if my messages are sent, and there is no "go back" feature to enable a person to retry in case it didn't work the first couple times. If they had it on a message board like EZboard, then all you have to do is access one URL. Going through Outlook Express I have to going through all these "GET SMART" doors and password games just to see no one responded to my post. It is rediculous!!!!! 1 - Does AW allow for people to buy a cit without a credit card?
Yes They Do Allow For People To Buy Without A Credit Card. I know several people myself that have gotten their cit's buy sending in Money Orders or CASH in the mail method. One of them lives in the Deleware USA area And 2 of them live in Australia areas. 2 - The parent should monitor what the kid does on the PC more. I agree. BUT again... All 3 of my friends that have gotten their cit# by alternate means than Credit Cards also have some parent that is working at the time the kid is home from school & using the PC. So they are not there to monitor anything. 3 - I have meet many more good and ROTTEN teens & preteens in AW. The really ROTTEN teens & Preteens... They are the ones i would KILL to get my hands on a GUN [ejector] and blast their sorry excuse of themselves out.[Only one like that from Australia] The others i can reason with and not have to eject or just reduse their gifts [rights] a little until they smarten up and then i give them back their gifts [rights]. It works 99.99999999% of the time. Parents don't WANT their child much of anywhere in all seriousness. Why the hell does everyone insist on pulling the wool over teenaged eyes and not letting us show us a sugarcoated world. > > I have met a lot of good and not so good teens. I have met a lot of good and not so good adults. >Again I >stress, if it > anyone regardless of age disrupts a world, then the owner can >ban them. Exactly. However, the Gor age restrictions are because of inappropriate content, NOT disruptions. > Base your actions on behavior not age. I think you will find >this more > successful As I've said THOUSANDS of times, though not in this particular newsgroup, age means nothing, it's the person that matters. In short, if Gor doesn't want children, they can get the hell out of the main universe OR keep ejecting based on age as a relative guideline. > > [View Quote] |
