Okay, heres an open question for all of you - I have a very extensive list
of features that are being implemented on the new website, what I want to
know, is what kind of stuff do you guys think would be really handy to have
on there ?

I'm open to all good suggestions

Better navigation, maybe a built in search. Right now its impossible to find
ANYTHING on that page, everything is hidden.

I agree, I will find something one day, then lose it the next. Try something
like those boxes that when you put your mouse thingy over it abox pops up,
and you could list sub-directories there, just a suggestion.

A database of known issues with the browser. This could be used for beta testing as well...

Yeah, I've seen the site map, and its still impossible to find anything, its
like, real big and long, and unorganized, like if you want to find where the
3rd party tools are its like all mixed in with the other stuff etc etc etc.
It's a total mess. I shouldn't have to go through that just to get to a page
on a webpage, thats crazy.

LoL...It's not a super big problem, but, it would be nicer to get to the
places on the webpage without a site map, any good navigation lets you do
that.

In the end, you CAN find everything, but a good website doesn't make you go
searching around as much as AW users do, unless there is a purpose of
"getting lost" in the site.
Especially being a corporate site, the faster you can impress and navigate
your visitor around, the more registered users you get. Which for AW could
mean more income. A website does make a major impact.

I have a suggestion: fix
http://www.activeworlds.com/products/commercial_servers.html so that it
doesn't automatically re-direct you to
http://www.activeworlds.com/products/personal_servers.html. =)

I think that on the home page you should show how many people are current
logged into AW, and how many worlds are running.

Less load time, replace the screenshot on the front page with one that shows
the features of the new browser (3.1), a menubar with collapsing catagories
(on homepage just major headers are shown, then navigating to one of those
catagories brings up homepage for that section and any subcategories are
shown along with the original menu)

Hey Facter, I'm not sure if your in control of this, but you should really
update the whole Community section. There's lots of organizations out
there, and it's hard to compete with the big orgs because they got so much
support from you guys. Also, the resource page could use a tune up, there's
a lot of new pages I've seen that aren't up and should be.

Facter - I gave a few suggestions by email to you when I was setting up a
new world. Here they are again:

1. Up-to-date zips for the Alpha Objects/Textures/etc plus registry
2. Clearer instructions on setting up a new world on a remote unix server

Regards, Justin

i personally think the current one is fine.. heh... now pricing on the other
hand... lol.. especially since hosting costs more then some of the worlds,
even though it bears a light load on the server...

Uh jbell, thats why you can use free hosts, atleast when AW hosts you, if AW
is down, so is your world, LoL. On other hosts if they're down, your worlds
down, and AW is up, then its a problem, right? LoL..although I do agree it
is kinda pricey.

There will be an integated community section on the same site - yep, already
totally on the list.

Some of my wants for it are a full object DB (with the release of all the
building objects from Mars, atlantis etc included in there) - in conjunction
with what already exists at object 'd activeworlds, a bot and program/tool
repository (which users can submit to - this may be a hard one, as we may
need to fix up the licensing for the sdk, as well as inspect code for user
created bots first - security is very important to us), integrated news
section, so that when things *do* happen around the company, the community
knows about it a little better....that kind of thing - I will be speaking to
allt he people involved int he community pages, and asking their assistance
in the whoe project - that side of the site will rely heavily on the help of
those that are currently involved with that area - it shouldnt be too ahrd
though, I can set up different permissions for people to do different things
on the new site. Also,a "place" registry would be nice...

Alot of stuff, also, is goign to go into it, like webpage-bots for different
types of admin, and that kind of thing...its a huge, huge project - I dont
know when it will be completed..but I want to get as much done as quickly as
possible - because of the way it is going to be designed, it will be so much
easier to add to than the current site.

Oh, and yes, there *will* be stylesheets =)

I like the idea bout the drop down list maybe in a lower frame sim to how
namezero had there lower frame set up you click the drop down box and you
get a list of sub domains.
Maybe use a subdomain set up for major areas of the web site ?
example

http://downloads.activeworlds.com and it would have the download section
http://status.activewolds.com would have the same info as the curent network
status .
etc

Hey Facter, this is an idea that kinda goes in hand with the AW current
status: IE the Current worlds and users that are logged on. Is there any way
to put a streaming shot of maybe Alpha WOrld GZ ont he main page so newbies
can get the feel of how everything looks and works before even having to
enter AW. Just a suggestion!

exactly that on Monday =)

Worked out well..though, i need to refine the whole thing ...

I am *definately* on the right track here =)

Excelent! I hope it goes over well Facter. Just keep one hting in mind - the
over all lag, or slow connection. You dont want someone on a 56K to pop on
and have to download the page for 5 minutes or so.

Just a thought.

a list of ALL current citizens, selfupdating and with a online/offline
indicator (that would have to be something that you get when you click their
names or something). It would also be cool if you made it possible for ppl
to have a ppl search on their AW pages, that could use the same technique as
the list page. And HOW do you make a streaming picture/video of a place in
AW??????
