Anyone know how some websites are making text look like it's closer than
other text?
Sorta like there is a space between 2 layers?

I don't understand what you mean. Could you give me an example?

Ok got to http://www.lunkercity.com/ and scroll down to the muscle worm
graphic.
It looks like it sits further back than the ones around it?

It's an optical illusion. The letters in Rascal are all caps, but they don't
go strait across at the top, the letters in the center are a tad smaller.
Add that to the word worm that is layed over the top of the word Rascal ,the
two colors in the words, and the brighter in your face orange words that
stand out around it, and you have the illusion that it is farther in the
back ground.

What I see, appears to be a graphic... you said the "Muscle Worm" text..
which I see as
Muscle (in blue) and
Worm (in purple) slightly layed over it.

I also see the same thing with Piggy Backs
Piggy (in Red) and
Backs (in orange) slightly behind it.

These graphics would be easy to create with Photoshop, and maybe even some
of the cheaper graphical programs. I believe it can even be created within
M.S. Word, if you looked for "Word Art"...

I'll research further, and maybe even try my hand at a couple examples for
you. :)

In internet explorer I see both Muscle and Worm in yellow and green.

I think alphabit is saying that the whole graphic Muscle Worm looks like it
is farther in the background then the Other bright orange graphics before
and after itl, not that the word Muscle that is layed behind worm looks
farther back then worm.

Try using one of the free font sites to get the same effect as shown on that
site,it seems thats all they have done and added effect in some design
program such as Fireworks.

What would I search for for that type of effect?
I have some instant web based font creation links but haven't seen one that
does that?

That's because you can't do that with web text. The only way you can do
that is by creating a graphic image using text in it.

Try Freehand free from Macromedia on a 30day trial this allows you to bend
textual format and apply affects to them.
