A tool that converts a BMP greyscale image into a propfile containing terrain.rwx's for
Demeter to build.

that sounds like a good idea

you can use Andras dem2rwx to use bmp to create terrain.

But how would the greyscale image be created? Would it be converted from
another format? If so, then it might be better to create a tool to convert
from that format directly. If not, then it might be easier to simply build
the terrain in-world, right?

You draw the greyscale image, or convert from something els.
If you made a tool to convert from another format directly then you couldn't draw your
own terrain.

Brant, make a file format that can be read by your bot.... e.g. X, Y, Z
(coordinates of terrain), Description & Owner
Then ya bot can just add these things from a file and someone else can make
a convertor.

Well, the elevdump.txt file should be sufficient as a format - why recreate
a new format? Some research would have to be done into reading it.
But XelaG, if I recall correctly, has his own terrain copying and
manipulation tools, so why reinvent the wheel?

They want something that will read a [greyscale] bitmap and then appropriately deal with it-- either converting it to elevdump or uploading to world. AFAIK, Xelagot doesn't do this.

Actually, now that I read the original post, starfleet wants a utility that will read the bitmap and create a propdump of terrain.rwx objects that some other bot like the Xelagot would load.
