cell limit in aw (Community)
cell limit in aw // CommunityduskbatJun 1, 2006, 2:06pm
i dont know but i think the cell limit in aw world is lower, i tried to
work on builds and it says its all area full. and in 3.1 i had no problems building in same area. i think they lowered the cell does anyone know for sure? mauzJun 1, 2006, 3:10pm

The cell size is the same I think. But I heard Ferruccio pondering that
maybe each object takes up more space under the new database? Two new fields have been added to the propdump version 4. I suggested rallying for Huge cell size now ;) -- Mauz http://mauz.info duskbatJun 1, 2006, 3:16pm
this really messed my builds. Its a downgrade for cell size. please
tell me is that acceptable? I have some builds in aw that were close to being area full.. now i cant even edit those areas, and part of my builds i moves objects around and i cant move them back now because of area full. before i was aware of thios change :( yes its 2006 fast PCs and fast internets they will have to change it to huge or fix the large to count for the new database ; ( [View Quote] ferruccioJun 1, 2006, 3:52pm

Roadkill did a test to see how many objects can fit in the old database,
and with the new. 74 objects could fit in a single cell, with a large cell limit, under the old database. Only 55 of the same objects can fit with a large cell limit under the new database. I am not building anything in Alphaworld until AWI does something to compensate for the more bulky database. It's just too difficult to alter what's already there. sw comitJun 1, 2006, 4:28pm
Indeed, there's about 25% less cell space universe-wide. It's a bug, or so
I'm told. Hopefully it gets fixed soon before too many people make a big mess outa their denser builds... [View Quote] angelicusJun 1, 2006, 7:16pm
I guess that as said a temprorary fix of making the world huge or even mega,
would be a sensible thing to do, if it is a bug, then it will be corrected (don't I sound confident) However if this is on an AW world, then there is people far more knowledgeable than me. Is anyone who has actually got a private world having this same problem, as I have 3 worlds to worry about, and need to expect problems once I am able to use them in 4.1 Thanks in advance [View Quote] equin0xJun 2, 2006, 1:12am
Instead of increasing the cell limit, and because the objects database is
bigger (which is making less objects fit in a cell), couldn't they just recode the browser -- if the browser says fit in XX number of data in a cell for Mega cell, couldn't they just up it? That way, it'll still be the same as 3.6 really. [View Quote] baroJun 2, 2006, 6:50am
I heard that the way cell max space is handled is quite complex and
really hard to change. Then again that might just have been an excuse to previous community demands for higher cell amounts. I just wish they'd give us world owners an option for 'unlimited' or some near unlimted amount. equin0xJun 2, 2006, 1:52pm
I was waiting for that one, RoadKill.
And I think there would be quite some danger in adding this feature. Worlds and browsers would be crashing left right and centre. If there was a need for the feature, it would've been out long ago. [View Quote] sw comitJun 2, 2006, 3:26pm
Cell data is sent in one big data packet. And the larger the packet, the
more likely it'll fail it's lil' internet trip and have to retry. Since there are transfer standards it has to abide by I think there's a limit on just how big a single packet can be, though correct me if I'm wrong... [View Quote] duskbatJun 2, 2006, 7:19pm
Ok So is AWI going to fix the cell issue or are they just gonna keep
it as it is now with lower cell. i already messed up some of my builds because i did not know the cell limit is lower and i cant move objects back to where they belong. I understand Aw world is a hassel for awi and they would love to just do away with it. but they have about done away with me if i cant build like i used to. :( sw comitJun 2, 2006, 8:05pm
Considering its a universe-wide problem, and affecting even other upgraded
universes, there's nooo way they're lettering this slip by. Would be unimaginable :o I'm pretty sure they'll fix it soon enough. In the meantime I'm taking a much needed break from AW... [View Quote] duskbatJun 3, 2006, 1:56am
Cryonics was at GZ :) and he said that the cell problem would be fixed.
Isnt that nice! yay!! welp cant wait to finish my ship in aw now . maybe in a day or two the cell thing will be ready. very nice [View Quote] jermeJun 3, 2006, 2:36am
Yes, I do believe there is a limit on packet size set somewhere along
the line. A larger amount of data should be split up and sent in two packets. However, sending everything in one big packet defeats the purpose of packets in the first place.... The idea behind packets is that the data is broken up into smaller chunks (i.e. "packets") and each of these chunks is sent individually. Once all the chunks (packets) arrive on the other end, they're put back together in the correct order, and then you have the data. (Weren't the designers of TCP/IP clever, or what?) So why try to force everything into one packet when there's seemingly so much data to send? -J [View Quote] sweetsJun 3, 2006, 2:49am
you? finish?....never LOL
I hope you continue on that for a long long time....its a masterpiece....one of those builds that can build forever : ) good work sweets sw comitJun 3, 2006, 4:52am
Simply put, because that's just the way it was made back in the begining.
From what I heard over the years, changing the system would be a huge undertaking in the script. I'm sure AWI is going to need a more convincing reason for needing more objects per cell before starting such a project. [View Quote] duskbatJun 4, 2006, 12:48am
Ok so now aw is set to Huge. what do yall make of that. maybe its
tempoary. maybe they will fix the cell and just use huge in meantime. anyone know? [View Quote] sw comitJun 4, 2006, 1:24am
Pretty awesome :D Been having some fun in AW with it.
I'm sure everyone is hoping its not temporary though lol. But if it is, at least we can get back to building again. - Com [View Quote] |
