I can't remember meeting either Strike Rapier or Lady Teal so believe I'm
impartial. I want the Cys very much. I think sack Lady Teal, let Strike Rapier run the show. ~ Justin [View Quote] jermeAug 10, 2005, 9:06pm

I'm sure I wasn't around when they were first started, but I have been
around since early 1999....Long enough to know that they weren't always like this, but also long enough to know that the last 3 or 4 years of them have been a joke. > > That is what it became at the end maybe, and I am sure there are other > reasons Bits quit - shed been doing it for a very long time, but thats > not how it was at the start. No, you're right. They weren't always that way. In the beginning, they were very reputable and it was a true honor to be awarded a CY. It seems to me that her "i quit" post was pretty angry. I don't believe that she quit because she didn't enjoy doing them. I know she loved the CYs and poured a *lot* of time into them. It was the people and politics that made it unbearable. Who's to blame her for quitting? Because of the ideas and cannotations associated with the CYs now, I can't blame her for wanting to completly dissolve them when she quit either. I'm a firm believer that the CommunitY needs a new award with a fresh start. -Jeremy syntaxAug 10, 2005, 9:07pm
Amen.

Just my view, GK's are overrated. So, her being the leader.. well..

Oh just close down AW forever!! CY nothing but a populatity contest
anyways. look at some of the junk that one in the past ; ) broAug 11, 2005, 12:35am
To be honest it looks like to me ORB was right . Mark was not the person
to be involed with CYs. [View Quote] tart sugarAug 11, 2005, 12:46am
I'm just saying who Lady TeaL is. You said you didn't know her.
and TL just means Team Leader. We have 10 of them. She isn't *the* leader. : ) But Lady TeaL has been actively involved with GKs for 5 years, so yes, she spends a lot of time in AW and is committed to making the CYs the best it can be. And yes, maybe GKs are overrated. Maybe not. But that's another thread. hehehehe [View Quote] sw comitAug 11, 2005, 2:49am
So the person who's done 99% of the work so far shouldn't be invovled?
hmmmm dunno about that :P [View Quote] tart sugarAug 11, 2005, 10:09am

Here's a suggestion.....Instead of bickering over how much orgizational
experience a GK TL has... Start something NEW. Build it from the ground up, a fresh start. Change can be for the better ya know. There wasn't always going to be a Cy Awards, just like one day...eventually... servers will be erased and taken away, and none of this will be here. But in the mean time, if you want an awards program, than make your own...(YOU being all of you as the whole community.) Give it a name, something people can associate with maybe... The Avatar Award, The Bit :) (In fact, I'll start another thread just for that). Then, find somone with enough time and dedication to make it work: Somone is going to have to step up (It's not a job for lazy people who got it handed to them.) Build a team: people who are also willing to contribute (and NO, you won't get anything back for it except the gratification of a job well done once those curtains roll up,) and have the skills and know-how to make it work. Come up with a plan how are we going to pick the winners? Then advertise, advertise, advertise: Let the WHOLE community know about it and when it is, and what it is about (Newsgroups, In-World billboards, telegrams, welcome messages, newsletters, etc.) This is how you start any community organization (minus the curtains and the winners.) Bit did that with the Cys, now you must step up and make your own legacy. -AlphaCentuari -LilAlpha Phalpha P.S. And who says there only has to be one awards program? (hmm.. Oscars, Grammys, MTV Music Awards, CMA Awards, Nobel Prize, there are several awards for books..... you name it.) strike rapierAug 11, 2005, 11:18am
Tart my dear.
What does you immediatly getting to be a section leader for CY's have to do with your input in this newsgroup, hmmm? :) -- - Mark Randall http://zetech.swehli.com [View Quote] strike rapierAug 11, 2005, 12:04pm

Just before E N Z O got around to changing the PPW, I nipped in to clean up
the odd thing (I'd filled a not insignificant amount of the world with signs etc detailing information) and remove some technical info I had put up about various things. http://zetech.swehli.com/pics/cy_public_relations.jpg Ohh the irony =\ -- - Mark Randall http://zetech.swehli.com [View Quote] tart sugarAug 11, 2005, 5:04pm
Irony? Not really.
When Lady TeaL agreed to take over the CYs from Bit, the first person LT asked to join her was me. She and I have an excellant working relationship already, based on mutual trust and respect. Unfortunately, I had to decline because I did not have the time. I have the time now, and Lady TeaL asked me again to reconcider. [View Quote] pelicanAug 11, 2005, 11:59pm
A message from Lites who is having difficulty posting to the newsgroups.....
I penned a post in response to all those that have gone before. I then decided it was in keeping with the energy of previous posts and that is not what I wanted to accomplish, so deleted it. Suffice it to say, there is room for more award ceremonies than just the Cy awards. I am one of the 'older generation' that was actually encouraged by Mark's approach to the awards. I found it extremely refreshing that there was a different view on things, and a sincere attempt by Mark to enlist the help of people, heretofore, who had not been involved before. There is so much talent in AW, in the way of builders, programmers, modelers and other contributors that just have not gotten the visibility they so deserve. Fortunately, I am not any of the above, so can speak openly :) Mark, and volunteers that have been working on this event: Please do not be discouraged. I sincerely hope that you go forward with the momentum that you have gained and design an award ceremony that is appropo I sincerely hope that you go forward with the momentum that you have gained and design an award ceremony that is appropriate for the new AW and all that implies. There are many people out and about AW who supported you, yet have not gotten involved in the foray of the newsgroups. That is not to say that the Cys are not important and do not have their place. Sustain the Cy with the people that you think are most appropriate for the task. I do however, agree with previous posts, that there is room for more than ONE award in AW. I also think it is so important that the youth of this virtual reality, have their voice and lead the way to the future. So, from one "old" lady in AW, please go forward Mark and staff, with the innovative ideas you had. I think it will be an immense contribution to the AW Community and I look forward to seeing what you develop. Sincerely, Lites litesAug 12, 2005, 8:53am
Thank you for posting this for me Pel, and then subsequently showing me how
to configure my mail and how to hit the "Send" button :) Lites |
