$100 cash? is that all?
It would cost you twice as much as that simply post it to me in 1 pence coins if I won... Of course I am not going to win, because I am most likely not going to enter... NEXT! - MR [View Quote] robbieSep 10, 2004, 8:09am
Why would you have it in penny coins? And whats with the party-pooping.
These guys are just trying to get a good competition going, dont rain on their parade. -Robbie [View Quote] strike rapierSep 10, 2004, 10:12am
Penny coins simply to see how the shipping company handled several thousand
coins? - MR [View Quote] lioness.Sep 10, 2004, 12:47pm
(kicks Strike's butt for being a pessimist) Fine!! Don't enter. Less
competition for those of us who are interested. LOL! I certainly could use any of those prizes and in case you haven't thought of it yet... $100 = a year+ cit. ;-"))) PS: I also noticed YOU of all people, didn't snip. hahahahha!!! (points a finger at you) ;-"p ferruccioSep 10, 2004, 8:44pm

Bleh screw this contest lol. They use lag as a judging factor, which
basically means that anyone with a hot rod machine will be lag-blind, and will get points taken off for things that he or she had no idea existed in his or her build. This is not a fair contest for those who are detail-oriented ;) ferruccioSep 10, 2004, 8:55pm
Telegram from Sexy Eyes, sent just now:
I am sorry that your builds lag terribly. Blaming others for your lagging is wrong. I don't lag anywhere in activeworlds on any worlds but your build area I teleported to locked me up, and I have a very fast system, and video card is one of the best. What you need to do is find out what is lagging, and why in your builds, and I am sorry but I can't allow you to build in the contest here if you have no sense of what lagging is, and how to address it. I address lagging by optimizing my graphics in my world, not using large files for music etc in my builds, and not max out objects in the build in one cell. I have been a builder and world owner in Activeworlds for over 10 years now, and I have never encountered a lagging build as high as yours yet. You need to find someone who can help you figure out how to lower the lag on your builds... I want this contest to go smoothly. Frankly I felt you have a problem with rules, in general, as you refuse to even give a first name... [View Quote] ferruccioSep 10, 2004, 8:59pm
Look at that, Sexy Eyes bars me from a contest simply because my computer is
so fast that I cannot see lag. :) That just shows the kind of fairness that has been prevalent in recent AW contests. [View Quote] sexy eyesSep 10, 2004, 9:27pm
I did NOT Bar anyone... This user refused to go by any rules of the contest,
and expects me to change the set rules for the contest to benefit his so-called LAG-BLINDNESS. I am sorry but the rules for the contest haven't bothered anyone else who has already signed up, and this user withdrew on his own, and is now trying to ruin the event. [View Quote] sw comitSep 10, 2004, 9:33pm
I wonder how the judges will determine the source of the lag. That is, what
if the building next to you is the cause of the lag? But judging on lag is so subjective and difficult to "measure" for the builder, I don't see why it needs to be included. Just going to be nothing but trouble IMO X_X [View Quote] joshSep 10, 2004, 9:33pm
:P at her being so obviously jealous of the uber pwnage of your builds... she
= clearly a 40 year old retard still thinking her windows 98 computer is new... well 1998 was 6 years ago so bleh [View Quote] ferruccioSep 10, 2004, 9:39pm
Umm no she's not jealous at all X_X It's just her opinion that lag is
somehow a fair judging factor, and I think it's not. [View Quote] sw comitSep 10, 2004, 9:39pm
Computer maintainance > computer specs, within reason :P
I can name a dozen areas that lag more than Ferr's builds, simply because they're well detailed. Tgram if your interested :P [View Quote] sexy eyesSep 10, 2004, 9:42pm
I think that Ferruccio will find fault regardless whether or not I change
the lag rule...of which I am not going to include that as part of the judging. I will change the rule on the website tonight. But, lagging will inevitibly ruin the contest anyway because if someone else has a build where no one can move to get to view any surrounding contest builds, in the vicinity, then it will also effect everyone around the lagging area. There is nothing I can do about lagging when people want to use obviously highly intensive textures, music, large files etc... builders need to pay attention to those type of things when building in a community.. [View Quote] ferruccioSep 10, 2004, 9:45pm
Wait, if one lagging build will effect all the neighboring builds, then
wouldn't that just be even more reason to take lag off of the judging criteria? Because that would mean that someone could ruin the chance of someone else winning simply by making an extremely laggy build in the next lot. How would you have any idea where the lag is coming from? [View Quote] sexy eyesSep 10, 2004, 9:50pm
Try reading the new message... instead of these threads, Ferruccio... Thank
you for your suggestions! [View Quote] ferruccioSep 10, 2004, 9:54pm
Awesome! I hope this makes it fair for the people who are going to build
there. ;) alaskanshadowSep 10, 2004, 9:57pm
I really don't see why preventing ferr from entering the contest over
something like "lag" makes any sense. Lag varies user to user. A contest is about judging who will win, not judging who should be allowed to participate. Ferr told me that he was banned from the contest because past builds of his were laggy. Plenty of my past builds were absolute crap. Some people's old builds have zbuffer. I've seen plenty that were absolutely uncreative as well. So why not prevent those builders from entering also? Even if Ferr's past buildings were laggy, who says his entry can't change? And lets say for example, Ferr was an AW hermit. The only reason sexy eyes is aware of his past builds which were by her standards, "laggy"; is because she obviously is familiar with him. I'm sure there are plenty of people who she doesn't know who could enter and create laggy entries, there's no way to prevent them from entering because you won't know how laggy their builds are until after they are completed, which is why preventing someone from entering for something as frivolous as "lag" in previous builds is pretty illogical. until you see what their builds are like"ferruccio" [View Quote] sw comitSep 10, 2004, 9:57pm
Two tips for perforrmance:
1. - If they're going to use astart astop animation to control the textures on their building, like so many people do, be sure to include a delay in the refresh. That is, in the begining of the code you'll see the animate me . 1 1 x, where x is the delay. Many people use 0 ( 1 1 0), so all the objects on the building will refresh their texture as fast as the frame rate, which can cause significant lag. I recommend a 1 second delay (which is 1 1 1000). 2. - Coronas...when viewing a corona through another corona, you get a big performance hit. Not much a problem while on the lot, but when you're a distance away the coronas get bigger and overlap more. I recommend the contest host to build texture invisible walls along the pathways that run inbetween the plots. The code would be something like "create texture ___ mask=awd8m,solid no" where ___ can be any texture. The mask is invisible, so you won't see the wall, but it will block out coronas untill you pass the wall and walk into the plot, which would prolly look better anyway. I also recommend placing the objects underground and using move to bring them above ground so that they don't get in the way of right clicks while building. Oh and avoiding the use of high resolution pictures can help too. [View Quote] veraSep 11, 2004, 4:22am
There you go!!!! Thanks SW Comit:))) And Ferrrrrrrrrrrrr you dont need to enter
anymore contenst YOU ARE A MASTER BUILDER ALREADY and leave the contest for the beginers....... Or for the ones that likes to copy others buildings and show up........ At least if they are complaining about your (laggy area) you dont have to worry about ppl stealing your buildings......LOL.......I still think you should go slow on the coronas and the lights anyway....But then my puter is 10 years old ......so do't mind me:))) [View Quote] > Two tips for perforrmance: > > 1. - If they're going to use astart astop animation to control the textures > on their building, like so many people do, be sure to include a delay in the > refresh. Actually it was more a point on transferring 10s of thousands of 1 pence
coins half way across the world. I thought it would be quite humours to see anyway. - Mark PS: The last post was relevant to it, no need to snip :) [View Quote] strike rapierSep 11, 2004, 7:47am

Probably should point out to you Lioness that 'is that all' is meant as
'thats rather a lot' as opposed to 'is that it?' which would imply not a lot. - Mark R Still in a very bad mood f***king parent [View Quote] sweSep 13, 2004, 12:15pm
actually, just 10,000, not 10s :) well, assuming you ment cents, would be
