Someone who is very active in the AW newsgroups keeps sending
the W32.Myparty at mm virus . This virus is not based on Microsofts
virus developement platform and does not need Outlook to spread.

I received this virus 4 times now within few hours.

It is a very fast spreading virus. Do not click a (faked) link
that leads to party pictures, it is the virus.

No sircam, it's quite new (first found yesterday) and
most scanners at home sure don't know it yet.

could be a rewritten version of sircam, since it seems similiar, and also
cuz there was a bug in sircam which stopped it from working on win NT
machinenes :)

Is there actualy anyone on the planet earth that doesn't delete on sight
emails with titles like "check this out!" with an attachment or "look at
these sexy pictures" or "100% real amature" ? If they don't, they deserve
what they get.

Fortunately, this virus doesn't function after January 29. Therefore, all
the damage should be pretty much done :)

dont always work....all of a sudden im getting lots of porn and emails
promising me ciagra and nonsense like that. it had to of been some site i
entered my e-mail in but all the unsubsribe links take me to a proffesional
looking unsubsribe page with a contact page and everything (prolly fake) but
no matter how many times you put it in there it never stops. But im not
stupid and im taking action.

I have this program that tracks the IP and figures out which ISP they sent
it from. I send a letter to the abuse with a spam alert and then the ISP
will most likely cancel their ISP account, even if its a hotmail adress.

but the point is you ARE being stupid ..... the "remove me" links are nothing more than a "confirmed email address" page....
When you reply to those it just confirms to them that they now have a "live" email address.......Ignore them...delete it outright
or filter it....but never reply to them that's what they want...;)

oh and no offense meant by the "being stupid" thing....lol

been there, done that, forgot most of it. hehehe

waiting for : W32.Unsubscribe at TROJ ;)

The only things that MIGHT help against spam are :

Let your email program show all header fields and look for
something like

Received: from [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] helo = fakedhello

Then start "tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" in a DOS box.
Often you find a dialup provider few lines above
the tracert target. Use the matching whois server and
forward the complete spam mail to the administrative
contact of this whois entry.

Sure this will flood Korea with a lot of junk, but maybe
they will learn how to make laws then. (95% of all spam
I receive comes from there)

optional :

Try to find out who hosts the domain, that is advertized
in the spam. Not easy because most Korean hosts have no
English pages.

Forward the spam with all contents to all email adresses
that look as if they were officials on this host.

A third method might work too :

if you can tracert the sender, you can try ping flooding
(requires a fast line), Ping of death or Teardrop attacks.
But usually the senders have well-blocked NT4 machines
and the only thing that will happen is, that their connect
is extremely slow for a while.

Disadvantage is, that this method is illegal, and on
dialup lines you can never be sure that not a new user
is hurt, instead of the one you wanted to hurt.
And for ping flood : Your line has to be at least as
fast upstream as the spammer's line downstream. Only
recommended if you have a dedicated server, makes not
much sense on a normal PC connection.

If it was up to me there would be a well trained government group that finds
out where the spam is coming from, goes to that location, and beats the
living shit out of them. Doesn't matter if it's new mortgage rates or a
pill to increase ejaculation, they get a shit kicking. I think that's
fair don't you?

Same with big companies that install spyware and other such things.

Oh and companies that install other junk on your computer without really
asking and it's hard to find/remove.

Oh and any company that has a program that changes your bookmarks or other
settings.

And short/chubby women who wear capri pants.

What happens when you "unsubscribe" is that you're telling the spammer that
your e-mail address is active. Then you will receive even more spam because
of it.

Congress better get their act together and pass that anti-spamming law.
Cause I'm getting sick of this.

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] AMEN Moff. :-)

But then too, if EVERYONE on the whole planet were smart enough to ACTUALLY
**USE**, the DELETE KEY or NEXT UNREAD button, people like McAfee & Norton
wouldn't be in business, now would they????

It's too bad we live in a society which has a problem with something called
SHORT TERM BRAIN SPAN because if people ACTUALLY **REMEMBER** that opening
viruses CAN crash your computer, there would even really BE a need for
Anti-Virus software.

But alas, we don't live in such a society like we used to so these companies
have to BABY some people (while milking them for all their worth) by
providing Anti-Virus software like a doctor provides Antibiotics to cure us
when WE AS PEOPLE come down with a virus.

In short, it's as simple as putting on a coat before going outside in the
middle of Winter (you DO own a coat, do you??).

I'm climbing off my soapbox now... :-)

Cheers for now everyone :-)
