In my opinion it would be very handy to list world feature and rights
changes showing the exact change (for example if someone changes a home page url on world rights or citizen rights you should log the full url it changed to) not just saying atribute change as it does now. Then list everything by computer ID , MAC address, IP address, Cit number (or Tourist name) and then time and date stamp it in VRT time. It would also be usfull if everything else going on could also be tagged with: Computer ID , MAC address, IP address, Cit number (or Tourist name) and then time and date stamp it in VRT time. The reason I say this is that when you have people sharing passwords it is not always easy to track who exactly changed somthing that should not of been changed and then know you have the right person and be able to take the correct action required encluding blocking them. While I appriciate there can be issues with ip addresses and mac addresses industry standard firewalls do use these a lot for filtering and blocking so this info would be very handy to have. In my humble opinion the only way that could be done would be is if there
was a way to log chat and whisper server side at world level. Then split the logs into the format of world, then day then hour so each hour a chat log is saved to a file in a folder for that date for that world within the world server. That way you would not need to water mark the chat log, also if you could do this then could'nt you make is so the recording system could act as a filter and stop people saying selected abuse words to others in public chat or whisper thus protecting children and adults from abuse? May seem a little bit over the top but at least there would be a acurate chat log from all sides and it would be a valid document that noone could selectivly edit before sending to the world owner. This is true, you could do it on universe side but im guessing universe
owners dont want twice the traffic to and from the universe to the browser or world or both and usually the dispute is between users rather than the world owner and a user tho i accept this can to happen from time to time. I just figured that like you hashing is a waste of time really and chat logs from the browser arnt even worth the disc space there saved on when logging a complaint were as world server side logs would be very handy and the added filter option I know would be good for public worlds with children in. Tho you could actually seperate the chat side from the graphics side by running chat on a chat server like a irc type server and set the server / room option as a world feature. that way the chat server could then do all the hard work logging, filtering etc... tho i appricate this could be intresting for the SDK and bots. I would beg to differ, everything in software development is relative.
Like the number of features you are adding, the affect they have on the current ones and possible future ones. The size of your development team, the array of testing of different systems required to ensure your product is functional in the field with a wide array of hardware and software. based on those facts and the stages taken for testing then I would not expect to see 4.1 in release until mid next year and I would not wine if it took that long either. I would how ever moan if it were released early, was very unstable and have very few new features. You have to remember that 4.1 is going be very different from the 3.x releases to date with all its cool new features so there will not be the option to run 3.6 and 4.1 at the same time like with 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6 I for one do not want to convert to find I am costantly pulling my hair out with crashing worlds, browsers etc as there will be no way back. not to mention that I expect value for money so expect to see good documentation and tutorials to help me understand the power of 4.1 and how to understand how to use it, model in it, make avatars etc...... 1.It means any owner of a 3.4 universe since the 4th of May until the day
before yesterday that was on 496 offering a upgrade to 498 through no fault of there own would have been sending its users 3.5 532 via the AW browser update server which will not work. 2. Yes. 3. After the last few days feels like it should be the 24th, thanks for pointing that out. Gandalf.TheWhite [View Quote] Sale of DreamlandPark UniverseOct 2, 2004, 10:55pm
Licenses for Universes are indeed non transferable, as such the new owners
will have to re purchase the license from the day they took over the universe. Other wise it is illegally operating as far as I understand from what I have been told by Rick and JP in the past on the subject. Best of luck to them its a very specialized environment to run not like offering web hosting as the customer base is very different. [View Quote] Community LiasonOct 9, 2004, 3:03pm
That might be the way it appears on the face of it but what a lot of may not
see is that the Activeworlds technology is one thing and the activeworlds universe is a community another. In effect is Activeworlds a show piece for the technology. While several people / companies / communities have purchased there own licenses of the technology. Rick and JP as I understand it work on developing custom projects for companies that people do not get to see or here about. In the end the community benefits as do other licensed universes as this technology filters down into new releases of the software at a later date. All of this research and development has to be funded from somewhere I.E the clients, Rick and JP. The AW community systems income has to go to self supporting it self and in effect this has to contribute to the upgrade of its software just like any 3rd party would as that is just the way a good business operates. I just think if people thought about all of the above first then perhaps they might come to a different con collusion rather than just going into Rick / JP bashing mode IMHO just because something they took for granted changes. *Don't bother flaming me its just my opinion lol* [View Quote] Potentially MAJOR Problem At AW GZNov 1, 2004, 6:10am

Rediculous Signs @ AW GZOct 20, 2005, 5:06pm
How about somthing constructive for a change, they have a point telling
people about pirate universes and can't exactly list them by name for obvious reasons however there is somthing else they could do. Perhaps there should be a link to a web page that shows all the legal universe names. That way if its not listed its not legal and should be avoided and reported. After all the browser carries the www.activeworlds.com domain name and logo providing loads of free advertising for AW which there is no way to legally change or switch off unless they change the domainname to somthing non related to activeworlds.com as a parent company selling the technology. So how about they do a little back to support all the genuine universe owners who have spent there hard earned cash and prove there all above board and legal. Based on what you have just said, the world is a scary place so only shop at
the store at the end of your street as its all you will ever need. Some of use like to shop around and get the best value for money and enjoyable expirence for our free time. Tho we always do a little home work as cheap is not always a good thing. So why not have a simple page just listing what is genuine if Microsoft can manage it then why not AW? well I don't see a problem with that just no point if no one is going to
bother comming, it was never set as tourist access before as there was one in AW so saw no point. [View Quote] Freebie worldDec 10, 2005, 10:38am
I have made the Freebies world in SpiralMatrix tourist enabled so if anyone
is in need of stuff they can drop by and get it until you get somthing sorted in ActiveWorlds. Regards, Gandalf [View Quote] Freebie worldDec 13, 2005, 11:28pm

Yes they have owned it for over a year if my memory is correct , if its not
I will re seat it later :) they dont sell Ver 9 any more you need to get version X http://www.corel.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3Uk/Products/Display&pfid=1047024670813&pid=1047025446809 I'm not sure if you can upgrade from 7 to X as it would be a version out of sync but I bet they could tell you if you contacted them. I would like to point out that the stagecoach system is a galaxy not a
universe, also it has not had the issue of allowing users to create there own objects, movers, sdk bots etc..... As all was pre made for stagecoach that build of 4.1 did not have to provide support for previous versions or realtime build support. While I appriciate that some people did'nt see the funny side of the April 1st prank by Enzo or are a little upset by the slipped release date I did comment last June that I personally would rather wait a year before its release or until it was working and had all the features promised rather than have a stripped out shell just to meet a release date. Tho I do agree that perhaps if the energy for the April 1st prank was put into cummunicating to the community a rough progress update on 4.1 even if it was just to say 70% completed with 200 bugs to iron out and all being well another 3 months before a public beta program then I am sure people would be a little happier well some anyway and those that moan would still do so :) You have to see the funny funny side tho I mean it was April 1st after all.
