OT response:
Know what, DS Dark Scoprpion? When I read Strike's overly-dramatic post about how big, bad AW had turned against little, ol' him and was threatening to SUE him ... *yikes!* ... well, the first word that popped in to my head was "KARMA". Funny how we reached the same conclusion, dontchathink? =o) [View Quote] What's a good DJ bot?Jul 20, 2005, 7:00pm
Hiya!
Magsbot can cycle a .mid playlist, and -- from what I hear -- is quite reliable. And, as an added bonus, Magine provides better-than-average tech support for her bot. http://www.turtleflight.com/mbh/mh_quick.htm#midi =o) Coree ----- [View Quote] Return avatar to last known position?Jul 19, 2005, 9:59pm
Hello, everyone!
I know that it's possible to record an avatar's last known in-world position in a text file (I believe the tourist guard bot is one bot that records this data). That said, is either the Preston, Xela or Magsbot able to return an avatar to its last know position after it re-enters the world after being away for an extended period of time? If not, is someone out there capable of / willing to write a script that can accomplish this? Thanks in advance! Coree Assistance with Xela's Chess Script?Sep 2, 2005, 11:21pm

Anyone care to comment on the below chat?
Immigration Officer: Welcome to MaddSale, Coree Pyro Goddess: Hello Coree Coree: Hello, Pyro. =o) I think I just sent a tgram to a stranger! Pyro Goddess: lol maybe Coree: BRB Pyro Goddess: I thought you weren't gonna buy from me anymore? Coree: I wasn't, Pyro. I'm just a bit confused as to our deal. It's been SUCH a struggle to keep things straight with you. Coree: Did we not pay you for exclusive avatars? Pyro Goddess: yes Pyro Goddess: and I sent everything Coree: Right, so, why -- if our avatars are exclusives -- is the ICE male for sale on your website? Pyro Goddess: because my site hasn't been updated in a long time Pyro Goddess: no one else has bought him tho Pyro Goddess: Its planned to be done this weekend Coree: Well, I was there last week looking around, and the ICE male wasn't there. He's there this week, so, a "long time" is less than 7 days, right? Pyro Goddess: No Pyro Goddess: My site hasn't changed in 3 months Pyro Goddess: at least Coree: Listen - I'm more than a bit miffed, Pyro. I made a deal with you in good faith, and it's been nothing but trouble. I paid you WELL, and on time for a more than fair deal. Coree: What would you do if you were me? Pyro Goddess: I would understand that there was a mistake and not get all huffy about it Coree: Do you do this with all of your customers? Because, if so, you are going to run out of business really soon. Pyro Goddess: No, I don't Coree: Pyro - It took you over 4 months to deliver on avatars that I paid you WAY too much money for. You made every excuse in the book -- all of them personal in nature and having nothing to do with our business deal. Coree: Now, every time I mention to someone that I bought avatars from Pyro, they laugh at me! How embarassing is that?! Coree: What do they know that I don't? Pyro Goddess: I dunno what you're talking about Coree: You're bold enough to sell the I, Robot avatar on your site for $10.00. It's all over the Internet for free, with a copyright. Pyro Goddess: Its one I made Coree: Every avatar creator that I've spoken with is busy trying to figure out who you are borrowing avatars from. Also, they all say they're surprised you even delivered on the avatars I did pay for, but that what you sold me should have been $10 or less. Coree: I, Robot is in Freebies world with a copyright to someone else. Pyro Goddess: This ends now Coree Pyro Goddess: I have no clue what you are talking about Coree: No. Wait. Why shut me down? Coree: Why not work this through? Pyro Goddess: other than the site being updated this weekend there's nothing else to argue here Pyro Goddess: because, I work too damn hard for ppl to be yelling at me over bullshit Coree: This isn't an arguement. This is about you taking full advantage of me. Pyro Goddess: I sent the av's Pyro Goddess: I've concluded our deal Coree: Yes. It took you 4 months, and a threat of legal action. Pyro Goddess: yet, our deal is concluded Coree: This is about you seeing me coming from a mile away and ripping me off. Pyro Goddess: Goodevening Coree Coree: ::nodding:: Coree: OK. Coree: I see how you're gonna be. Coree: Best of luck to you, and, good luck finding business. Coree: I'll make sure to post this chat in the AW forum. Coree: Take good care, Pyro. Hello, Tony and Seiya. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my above
post. To clarify: My above chat log was not an attempt to further my argument with the seller in a public forum, but, rather, was an attempt to solicit advice and/or warn others about the seller's shady business practices. It was posted without any additional comments so that I might receive an unbiased set of responses on my specific situation as well as to warn others of potential problems with this seller. I now see that perhaps a preamble might have been appropriate soliciting advice and/or similar concerns with this seller. After posting the above thread here, I then saw that there was a 'world builders' forum where this thread could be more appropriately listed. Thank you for your comments. Hi, Paul!
Thanks for responding! When I say "custom", I suppose I'm being misleading! The avatars I purchased were already created and available (visible) on her world's avatar menu when I purchased them. I was only paying for exclusive use of the mesh at $60.00 each, while she retained the right to re-texture them and re-sell the mesh as a different, "modified" avatar. For $360.00, all she had to do was zip them up and send them on, with existing textures and sequences! Thanks for your response! Orb -
I'm truly sorry that you almost got taken for a ride ... and pleased I could offer you a bit of fair warning. That said, perhaps not *everyone* will have a bad buying experience with PyroGoddess, but, Let the Buyer Beware! My experience with purchasing avatars from PyroGoddess was WAY less than good! It took me 4 months to get 6 avatars that I paid $360.00 for! Yikes! She saw me coming from a MILE away! Those same avatars are now on sale on her Website and in MaddSale for $4.00 each (as opposed to the $60.00 EACH that I paid)! I paid her 1/2 of the money up-front ($180.00), and, at 3 months in to the deal, I was told her husband -- who had just gotten out of jail -- had "accidentally sold" my last 2 avatars to someone else. I finally received my last 2 avatars after 4 MONTHS, and only after threatening legal action! All along the way were MANY excuses as to why she was unable to deliver avatars, textures or sequences -- "my server crashed" ... "I'm having computer problems" ... "my husband does that part (and he's in jail)" ... "I'll send them tonight" ... "I'll send them tomorrow" ... "I'm on my grandmother's computer right now" ... "I have nowhere to live" ... " "I'll send them as soon as I have somewhere to live" ... "I have to re-make the textures/sequences/etc" ... "My husband accidentally sold your avatars to someone else" ... As of this date, 2 of the avatars still do not have moving wing sequences, as promised. For the $360.00 that I sent her, we agreed she would also assist me with creating an avatar.dat file. That hasn't happened either! She even asked me for a additional $10.00 payment via PayPal so she could buy food for her children ... within 24 hours of me sending her $180.00, via PayPal! My Long story short: We agreed to purchase avatars from Pyro Goddess on 17 February 2005. We sent our first payment for 6 avatars on March 26, 2005. We received the last of our 6 avatars on June 20, 2005. It was trouble all along the way! For the amount of money I paid her for SIX avatars -- all in good faith and as soon as my order was placed -- I could have purchased THIRTY-SIX avatars elewhere and saved myself a lot of hassle! Sad, really ... if PyroGoddess were a better business person, I would have purchased ALL of my avatars and items from her exclusively. She does good work. But, then again, I've heard that her avatars and objects are "re-textures" of someone else's work. But, that another story. Best of Luck, Orb! If you find somewhere for me to buy high-quality, monster avatars, let me know! [View Quote] PYRO GODDESS/MADNESSJul 10, 2005, 3:05am
TheMask and TonyM:
While I fully understand that YOU might not be interested in someone ELSE getting ripped off, this newsgroup is marked COMMUNITY, and, as far as I can tell, I, 'Woman', PyroGoddess and both of YOU are all a part of that community group. I know of no other forum in the Active Worlds COMMUNITY that is available for people to speak with one-another, get support from one-another or discuss any active-worlds-related issues aside from these newsgroups. Further, the Activeworlds newsgroups Web page states " Activeworlds hosts several different support newsgroups. Anyone may view the posts and information in these newsgroups; ..." Near as I can recall, the freedoms that we all fight to defend include the right to free speech, and, that means we're ALL free to solicit advice, warn our fellow citizens and post our opinions about situations, individuals or corporations in whatever manner we see fit, so long as what we post is not libelous or slander. Our posts here are meant to both solicit advice as well as warn others of a potentially harmful business situation. Furthermore, 'Woman', Myself (and even Pyro Goddess) are staying within those guidelines, have been (mostly) courteous and well-spoken to everyone here and have not infringed upon anyone else's right to post whatever they like. I challenge you both to live up to those same standards. In the mean time -- while you are struggling to hold your tongues -- kindly move on if the post in question does not interest you. Strike Rapier,
This Web page --->>> http://zetech.swehli.com/roa/ <<<--- which links to your signature below? This is YOUR Curriculum Vitae, correct? You are ... .... are you not? If so, you either left a TON of important education out of your CV, or, the only "BUSINESS" training you've had is the group competition that you entered at ages 10 and 11: Furthermore -- at your present ripe, old age of 19 -- you appear to have held a grand total of ONE (1) summer-of-2005, NON-retail job: You do, however, know a TON about computers and programming! Congratulations! =o) Now, here is MY CV: http://www.good-wench.com/Mutation/AWResume.htm I currently OWN a part-time retail business, run a full-time biomedical repair contracting business and have had more jobs and more successful business partnerships than you have had years alive, so, stay in your "business" league, Kiddo. Perhaps you should throw away all of those textbooks and do a little living before you presume to have an educated opinion, hmmmm? My guess? You're simply a young, nosy computer geek who thinks they know everything. But then again, that's just my non-libelous opinion. *grin* Thank you for your (plain text) comments! Builderz,
Just an observation, but, according to Pyro's record of their transaction(http://www.pyrosmaddness.com/womansrefund.jpg ) that guestbook post appears to have been made the day that 'Woman' first ordered and paid for her avatars. I'm sure that -- just like mine did -- 'Woman's' first impression changed significantly after almost 4 weeks of not receiving either avatars or a refund. Pelican,
Yours was an OUTSTANDING post, and your point(s) were very well taken. Thank you for taking the time to post such a well-written, well-thought-out response. I have to agree that gripes/groans and the like have NO place here, but, pardon my insistence as a "where else if not here?" mentality takes hold of my wayward fingers and forces me to share my unhappy experience. Granted, these forums are not the IDEAL place to post my tale of business woe, however, I still MUST stand by my belief that it is my DUTY as a long-standing, contributing, rule-abiding citizen of the AW community to share any information that may save others any undue emotional and/or financial hardship. After all, if all I wanted to accomplish was complaining without good reason, I could do that at the gate. =o) That said, four things have happened since I last posted: 1) I have found a new modeler who offers good, simple work for a fair (for both of us) price. I have great hope that our relationship will continue along positive lines and that ours will be a long-lasting and prosperous partnership. 2) I have -- in an attempt to set the libel and slander record straight -- located the ORIGINAL copyrighted source of all of the meshes that I previously had questions about. (It turns out that all of PyroGodess "original, custom" avatars are, in fact, 5-minute .mdl to .rwx file conversions from the game Neverwinter Nights and its many incarnations.) That makes me sad, but, I can't say it was unexpected. 3) I have contacted AW again and also contacted bioware (the maker of Neverwinter Nights) and disclosed what I know. Converting the files for personal use? I'm sure that was OK. However, RE-SELLING the meshes as original, custom works might present PyroGoddess with a problem. At this point, I'm leaving it in the capable hands of both AW and bioware. I'm sure they'll know what to do from here. 4) I've learned a very valuable lesson about trusting people and taking them at face value. *heavy sigh* So, what to do now? I paid $360.00 for six avatars that I now KNOW are stolen. Knowing that, I can't very well use them in good-faith, can I? So, ya' think 'PyroGoddess' will refund my $360.00? Thanks again for posting, Pelican. Coree ----- [View Quote] PYRO GODDESS/MADNESSJul 12, 2005, 8:51pm

Gnu32:
Yes, you missed a significant amount of information. First, although your perception is one of everyone "arguing", I beg to differ. I rather think MOST of the posts here were meant to inform. That said, if you'll scan back through all of the newsgroup posts here that I've made, I believe you'll see that I have, instead, presented facts and had some calm, respectful conversation with everyone. Well, aside from my almost losing my temper with StrikeRapier, which is understandable. =o) Yes, what I said above is true. The avatars that PyroGoddess has been selling are, in fact, .mdl to .rwx conversions from the game 'Neverwinter Nights', which is owned by Atari. Since my first port, I have sent ActiveWorlds, Atari and bioware, Inc (the distributor of the Neverwinter Nights game) a detailed explanation as to the circumstances of my purchasing their copyrighted meshes and textures from PyroGoddess, as well as a ton of supporting documentation (photos of what I purchased, links to PyroGodess' web site and photos of her in-world models for sale, photos of their OWN models, etc.) which makes it ABUNDANTLY clear that PyroGoddess is selling EXACT duplicates of their copyrighted material. I have since heard back from Atari who has 1) thanked me for the information and supporting documentation, as well as 2) assured me that everything was being forwarded to their legal department. And so, the issue is now in the capable hands of AW and Atari. I would hope their judgement is swift and fair, for all parties' sake. Thank you for your comments. Hello, ubermonkey:
First, let me thank you for calling me a 'fucktard'. It's not often that I'm labelled something so very colurful. =o) Second, my above comment was not meant to support either ORB's behavior in chat or their decision to post that chat to the newsgroups. Rather, my post was intended to calm ORB's eternally raging anger towards Strike Rapier, which -- in my most humble of opinions -- is a waste of good breath. As for putting up with your manners (or lack thereof), I have no problem with doing so endlessly, and doing so with a genuine smile. You see, I bear you no ill will whatsover. How could I? I don't even know you. I would venture a guess, thought, that the breakdown of your ability to communicate without being rude is simply the result of your not being aware of the very thing that you are accusing others of -- your lack of humanity and empathy for your fellow man (or woman, as the case may be), and your unwillingness to see the effect that you words might have on someone else. There is a reason that we, as a society, have general rules of good behavior. They are similar regardless of country, language or religion, and provide us with a measure of ourselves when compared to the rest of society. Of course, they all include the big nasties: "Dont kill folks, don't steal stuff, don't jump on your neighbor's babe", etc. However, alongside those obvious toe-steppers are the teensy rules of behavior that just generally make life more pleasant when we practice them: "Please do not insult others (sic) by the use of inflammatory or offensive statements or images. Refrain from expressions of bigotry, racism, hatred, or profanity. Please do not harass others, including verbal abuse or personal attacks ..." Sound familiar? It should. The above is taken directly from the Active Worlds conduct guidelines, and I can't figure out why -- if we all do our best to adhere to those guidelines while in AW chat -- that we wouldn't try to do the same here. After all, no matter what your opinion on a subject, it should NEVER be too difficult to shove your your angst and anger down someone's throat along with a big, fat slice of genuine, old-fashioned good manners. And? If you just can't seem to hold your tongue long enough to do that? I wish you much luck in life. That you for your comments, ubermonkey. I've experienced problems with the AFK status, also. I have myself on my contacts list as well, and, my problem has been that I DON'T see myself as AFK at all! I noticed the problem the first time about a month ago, and, previously, everything was working as normal. I can't offer you any assistance, but to confirm that I have a similar problem. Forgive me for jumping in here, but, if what you said above is true,
that sounds frighteningly like a kid saying "neener-neener" ... instead of a corporation trying to develop or improve a product that will keep its long-time user-base happy while also learning how best to cater to an up-and-coming, Internet-savvy market. "reacting without having enough information" ---------- It would be nice if AW took some time time to allay some of our well-founded fears. Although we, as long-standing citizens, knowledgeable AW users and world builders, are not the bulk of AWIs income, we are their future, as far as continued word-of-mouth advertising is concerned. (I included my first link on my homepage to the AW browser back in 1995, and it's still there.) I, for one, (along with my group) have invested a HUGE amount of time, effort and money in to a new world. We have spent the last 9 months terraforming, building and perfecting its features. We are actively hiring professional programmers to create a new, full-featured bot. We have also spent and will continue to spend an extensive amount of money on world hosting, OP hosting, Web hosting, object creation, avatar creation, bot programming, etc. Naturally, given that AW 4.1 and the new AW SDK are expected out some time soon, we are concerned about allowing our programmers to create something that may become obsolete right away. We are also concerned that all of the avatars and objects we've purchased will also become obsolete as soon as the new version of AW is released. As soon as we realized that the new version of AW/SDK might present us with some problems, we wrote AW a lengthy email. We asked for some direction as to what we should do about continuing with our programmers and our bot project. Should we wait? We asked for some advice as to whether or not we should continue with the creation and purchase of objects and avatars. We asked if our new bot, already-existing objects and avatars and completely-built world would be compatible with the new version of software and SDK. Can we modify it all later? To date, we have yet to receive a return email from AWI. Why the secrecy from AWI? Instead of creating excitement, this brand of secrecy only feeds the rumor mill and breeds dissatisfaction with the lack of communication with their existing community members. Why does AW not respond here, in the NGs, to their users? Why do they not have a forum anywhere on their site where they can answer questions post updates, or list exciting news? I think for the most part that people here, in the NGs, are capable of open, effective, respectful communication (aside from maybe Strike Rapier). *grin* Also, the 'wish list' includes some of the very best ideas I've seen so far! And, even Strike, with his big, old, obnoxious mouth has a good idea or two (see his outgoing t-gram script). So, AWI? Listen up! We WANT to continue to support you and we WANT to respect your efforts, but, you MUST treat your long-standing citizens with the same, well-earned respect! We've hung in there for YEARS, always believing in your vision. Please believe in your fans, their ideas and suggestions for improvement, and their constructive criticism. In the end, we're really all you've got. ZoomNov 18, 2005, 9:02pm
