AWLC - Active Worlds Linguistics Compiler

Jul 20, 2000, 9:29pm
What would you say to a special compiler that uses a simple language to
create complex bot commands? I have some of the source code down, but before
I actually put the whole compiler together, I'd like to know how the people
in Active Worlds feel about it. You can telegram me (Twisted Horizon) or
e-mail me (joshua_trask at capecod.com) with your opinions on the topic.
Thanks,
Twisted Horizon

It isn't C++ or VB, it's like a special programming language to make bots
in.

AWLC - Active Worlds Linguistics Compiler

Well.... er..... yes.....
It doesn't quite compile into an executable as I would have hoped. Right now
it's just a parser, but in later builds
(this is not a might, this is a definite fact) it will turn into a compiler
for executables.

Yeah, yeah, Perl's a great language, what with its piping =

all. You want to make an RPG bot. YOU ARE CRAZY. Aside from that, if you =

Radius stuff

Since it's really some top-secret project that noone can know about (at =
least not for another week or two) I'll just pretend that it's =
paintball, since it is somewhat similar. Now my paintball bot, I don't =
want people to be able to shoot people who are a certain distance away. =
(Note that I'm doing this in C++, and, due to all the other things the =
bot needs to do, this will NOT be a Xelagot) This involves some sort of =
circle algorithms to find if one avatar is within the radius of another =
avatar, I believe. If there is a different way of doing this than what I =
had guessed, please let me know, or if you do know how to do these =
algorithms, ALSO please let me know :-)

Hello, it's me again, Twisted Horizon. You may know me from such =
AW-Based game series as hQuests, or... maybe... hQuests?
It's been a well-known fact that I always will build an hQuest complete =
with bots and objects to the owners personal demands if given the world =

make free custom bots for certain instances. Well, now I offer this... =
Free hQuest &/or free custom bots for commercial or public use, but not =
for distribution
Now that's only two things, but if you =
think about it, that's a lot. So what do I offer in trade? I'm running
short on ideas. Ideas for game worlds? =
No. Ideas for game modes. Currently, I have Treasure Hunt and
Domination (WORLD GRAND OPENING PARTY =
SOON), I'm working on King of the Hill, and plan to do
Capture the Flag soon. I have bots that =
I make that run these game modes. However, I, the person who
does not just get his feet wet, but =
drowns himself in the gaming industry, am still looking for some new
game modes. Got a game mode? Get a bot! =
Get a world! Get some objects! Oh, and don't forget the
games... Have fun and hQuest!!! =
(Currently only available in Treasure Hunt mode in JayWorld)

Many thanks,

bad idea - it isnt bots that need plug-ins - its the aw browser itself. ive
been trying to present this idea to Roland for about a month now.

Nov 19, 2000, 2:44am
I see that, but there are plenty of other bots already like that, and
downloading a whole *gasp* 1 megabyte top program that installs quickly
isn't too much of a problem. As I said, you really can't get much in with a
bot plug-in, we need an AW plug-in capability. If you really want easability
in your updates, somewhere back a few months ago source code was posted for
an auto-updater, similar to as is used in Ima Genius' Chatbot. Very nice.
Give it a try.

bot telegrams?

Nov 23, 2000, 12:00am
Well, think about this. If someone has an idea and everyone says that's a
great idea, no matter what it is, then we get in a lot of trouble. If we say
we hate it, then someone will get mad at us for just saying we hate it, and
not even giving any opinion. Therefor, we must give our "negativity" to bad
ideas to show why they shouldn't be done. Take it as criticism to the idea,
not the person.

Don't know if any of you botters noticed yet, but I was checking to see =
if there was a function to see if a specific citizen was on (no, darn, =
as i suspected) and stumbled across this in 3.1:

int aw_delete_all_objects (void)
DESCRIPTION
Deletes all of the objects in a world.

CALLBACK
AW_CALLBACK_DELETE_ALL_OBJECTS_RESULT

NOTES
This method is new in Active Worlds 3.1 and requires at least SDK build =
18 and world server build 28.=20

aw_delete_all_objects provide a simple mechanism for deleting all of the =
objects in a world. Only instances owned by a caretaker (i.e. aw_int =

For a complete description of cells and property in Active Worlds, see =

EXAMPLE
int rc;

You'd better believe it could. Lol.... I've been working on bots that do
that for big worlds, and they're kind of annoying. Thank God we finally got
one of these. Now all we need is those legendary golden
God-I-want-'em-so-badly added attributes to the AW_EVENT_AVATAR_CHANGE:
moved_on_shift
and
moved_on_fly
If Roland ever gets this idea (or HamFon or whoever does the SDK
programming) then.... wow.... we'll have a high-power SDK.... And how about
bots sending sounds? I think I need to make a wishlist page for SDK
features. E-mail me (joshua_trask at capecod.com) if you have any you want.

It's not they no longer work, I believe that they never worked, and will
be - No, no, then the docs wouldn't be there, maybe they were removed. I
don't know. I've been doing AW a long long time but certainly not bots. Of
course they wouldn't leave them there if they wouldn't be added later
