Latest avatar makeover: Lori from AW Standard Avatars

Jan 2, 2006, 5:20am
Thought I'd share this latest makeover with everyone..
I've gotten some varied comments back already, so why not get more?

I've been redoing the some of the avatars found in world AW of ActiveWorlds,
and you can see them here:

http://forum.bastillion.net/index.php?board=8.0

But, this last one is a bit Risqué.. and as I mentioned, has gotten varied
comments.

Thank you for the input. :)

By chance, did you happen to see the other avatars I've redone, or has this
one just completely chased you away?
I can assure you, that this latest one is the first (and probably only
public) to be this racy.

I've redone Philippe, Tanya, Gray, Willy, Alicia, Jenna, Hotep, Birde, Rick,
and both tourists.

showcases them all in world (well, locally on my PC, but within AW browser)

Posting a reply to myself isn't something I normally do, but in case you've
already read the thread out...

Lady Murasaki (www.murasaki3d.net) gave me a WONDERFUL tip on lighting the
clumps in the avatars..

...and it made one HECK of a massive difference!

The new avatar (while still seen as racy to some) at least now looks softer
and more even! I'll have to try
this affect on my other avatars to see how they turn out!

Check the new pictures I posted:

Thanks again all for the feedback.. positive, neutral, or negative. :)

[View Quote] Chris,

Not sure if this was asked of me, since it follows a thread from sweets, but
to answer your question non-the-less:

Yes, of course ratings have meaning to me. I do have a son myself who is
rather young and I would not want him to see something like I have
posted yet at this time. However, I do what the responsible parent does and
watch closely (I'm right there with him) whatever he does on the
computer, and limit the web (if he uses it at all) to sites meant for his
age group.

That said, I know that my personal avatars I am revamping will more than
likely never be used in a public AWI controlled world, so having my
avatars "appear" in world AW is only happening because I am using the same
method that the SWCity AWE project uses.. my local path on my
hard drive.

Perhaps, since I have had quite a few people mention it to be more PG-17ish,
I should only showcase any further avatars of this nature in my
own world, Solitude which I could control the Ratings settings there. And
leave the PG avatars for my own use in my localpath within world AW.

Thank you for your input, and again, this is all new to me.

Just poking fun... now on to the rest of the program...

[View Quote] Others have already stated that it might be your video settings, and I agree
with that possibility. My son has software that changes my resolution down
to 800x600, and then decides to put it back to my original resolution, but
in 32 bit instead of 16 bit... so when I go into Active Worlds next, directx
flakes out and complains that it has to enter software render mode... and
that just plain sucks!

BTW: anyone know why the browser doesn't force the PC to change to 16 bit
if that is all it can use? Annoying "feature" that. :-P

"Sneak peak" at AW 4.1 (different universe)

Jan 10, 2006, 2:45am
Actually, if you d/load the demo video of this product, which is created by
SwivelMedia

http://www.swivelmedia.com/fun_money.htm

You can clearly see that it's not AW's engine.. it's actually Second Life.

Also.. that link you posted below.. why does the site automatically ask you
to register, and then all the graphics come from

a676.g.akamaitech.net

Instead of an actual wellsfargo domain? I'm not sure I'm trusting the site
you posted.

"Sneak peak" at AW 4.1 (different universe)

Alright, I finally found a link within the Wells Fargo website itself which
did lead to the previously posted location.

I'm d/loading it as we speak, since I now feel more comfortable with this.

Easy to use LocalPath objects

Jan 24, 2006, 1:09pm
I think it would be a fairly easy thing to incorporate, but at the same
time, I understand what could occur.

Within the registry for AW Prime (world AW), would it be possible to add
generic item names that people could then create local versions of their own
objects that would appear only in their browser?

Let me explain a bit better my idea:

I found a few objects I would like to use in world AW and then renamed them
after the "x0" objects (which are the playing card objects). While in my
localpath, whenever the browser comes across a card object that I have
replaced, instead of loading the small card, it instead loads the object
from my localpath.

For example, I renamed one of Kitiara's Cabins "x0d.cob", zipped it into
"x0d.zip", and then placed it into my localpath. Now, whenever I come
across that object, instead of seeing a small playing card, I see her custom
cabin.

Granted, anyone else that comes into the area still only sees the stray
playing card, but if they were to put my renamed x0d.zip into their
localpath and enable use of the localpath, then they would also see the
cabin.

Example here:
http://bastillion.net/img/AWE-examples/x0d-standard.gif <---what standard
AW user sees
http://bastillion.net/img/AWE-examples/x0d-bastmod.gif <---renamed objects
in localpath

http://bastillion.net/img/AWE-examples/xobjects-standard.gif <---cards
out in a field
http://bastillion.net/img/AWE-examples/xobjects-bastmod.gif <---becomes a
carousel when objects renamed!

Now, I understand that AWI would prefer people to purchase their own worlds
and develop their own object paths, but what about the userbase that cannot
afford to do that? Why limit their creativity if they could make an area in
the massive public world AW where they could share their objects with
friends/visitors to their area?

My suggestion would be to set aside these generic object names in the
registry for people to use:

lp(1-X).rwx where X can be decided.. perhaps even something like
lp001.rwx, lp002.rwx, lp083.rwx... you get the idea.

Granted, with such generic names, the person using their localpath would
have to remember or snapshot what objects they are using under those names,
but that would still allow for much more customization I would think.

This wouldn't be a case where abuse would come in, I don't think, as only
the person(s) using the localpath would be affected visually.

If someone wanted a huge castle object with lots of polygons and intense
graphics, then only they would see that and be forced to deal with the lag.
:)

What does everyone think about this idea?

I have also decided to post this idea into my forums:
