that's easy:
AW is a 655 km square area is 655000 * 655000 meters = 429025000000 m2 surface area of a sphere is 4 pi r2 so: pi r2 = 107256250000 r2 = 34140724730 r = 184772,0886119 meters Lets say you are 1.80 meters tall, add 1.80 to that radius. The tangent to the circle of the smaller radius (the world radius) is one side of a right triangle with the longer radius (World radius + body lenght) as the hypotenuse. a^2 + b^2 = c^2 do the math, the horizon would be 815,5846 meters away. bluebean wing <bathgate at prodigy.net> schrieb in im Newsbeitrag: 3b849ae1$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > Heres a problem for you mathmaticians, I'm taking the appropriate class next year, so obviously I can't do it. > > If Alphaworld were a sphere (I know, it wouldn't work, it's a square and you can't make a square into a circle without stretching, > just take a sphere of equal surface area), and you were standing on it at ground level, how many meters away would the horizon > appear due to the curvature of the world. > > Why I want to know this? just a clarification: your line of sight to the horizon would have the
length of 815,5846 m (in fact you would have to be taller than 1.80 meters or have your eyes on the top of your head). To calculate the distance you would have to walk to the horizon, you have to calculate the angle between the two radii and then do an calculation on the lenght of the circular arc. Formula if angle A is in degrees is: A (PI/180) r .(r = World radius) I'm too lazy to do the math now, hehe. bluebean bluebean <bluebean at csi.com> schrieb in im Newsbeitrag: 3b86cbb3 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > that's easy: > > AW is a 655 km square > area is 655000 * 655000 meters = 429025000000 m2 > surface area of a sphere is 4 pi r2 > so: > pi r2 = 107256250000 > r2 = 34140724730 > r = 184772,0886119 meters > > Lets say you are 1.80 meters tall, add 1.80 to that radius. > The tangent to the circle of the smaller radius (the world radius) is one > side of a right triangle > with the longer radius (World radius + body lenght) as the hypotenuse. > > a^2 + b^2 = c^2 > > do the math, the horizon would be 815,5846 meters away. > > bluebean > > > wing <bathgate at prodigy.net> schrieb in im Newsbeitrag: > 3b849ae1$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > next year, so obviously I can't do it. > you can't make a square into a circle without stretching, at > ground level, how many meters away would the horizon > stimulate conversation when Roland finally ups the maximum AW > 4.0 and gets clearance from Old Man JP (Rick died) to ask 15 > XLR 2048mb will halt implementation. > > Bug in World Server build 43Aug 27, 2002, 9:54am
From my expirience it makes quite a difference. I built a huge thing in
TheBeans and all objects had a create name on it. It got quite laggy. When I replaced the objects with pretextured ones I got a noticeable increase in framerate. That's why TheBeans gz is relatively lag free :) "ncc 72897" <NCC-71854 at USS-Venture.Starfleet.UFP> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:3d5e10e0 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > ummm, its the amount of objects and special effects which lagg the place, > not the amount of bytes in a tile.. > i dont think it makes any difference in frame rate whether u have an object > use its original texture or applying another one with create texture.. > [View Quote] Why isn't anyone renewing?Oct 22, 2002, 8:28am
hello SWE!
What happend? I had the impression you enjoyed AW very much just a few weeks ago. It be a pity and a loss for all if you leave :( -bluey "swe" <swe at swe-e.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:3db470cd at server1.Activeworlds.com... > I still havent anything usueful to do with my life, im just really pissed > off at AW, and no planning to come back. :) > [View Quote] Why isn't anyone renewing?Oct 22, 2002, 8:51am
Forget it, I think I know what happened. A pity anyway :(

hello community!
Does anyone know anything about where maki went? He's been missing for the last 4 weeks or so. Totally abnormal for him. I am deeply worried. If you have his email adress or know anything about his absence please send the info to bluebean at csi.com. Please trust me, maki is the coowner of my world. thanks in advance, bluebean TheBeans public build world Can we get an explanation on AWmapper?Jul 2, 2003, 6:39pm
YAY the mapper page is up again. This feature was what attracted me to AW in
the first place. I love maps, I loved to explore Alphaworld with the help of the mapper. Now, can we hope to get, after one year delay or so, a new update? bluebean "sw comit" <swcomit at swcity.net> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:3f020244 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > Hopefully ENZO or someone can answer this in a little bit more detail than > simply "not enough room". Not just a normal building contest - this is where the big prizes can be
won: 1st place: 1 year cit renewal _and_ a P30-5 world with free hosting for one year (including a free cit) 2nd - 3rd place: 1 year cit renewal or a P20 world with free hosting for one year. 4th-6th place: 6 month cit renewal 7th-12th place: 3 month cit renewal Rules are easy: Go to the building contest area in world TheBeans in the vicinity of 150N 50E, locate a free building contest lot (with a sign next to it), build something, win a nice prize :D Only one build per account.. Deadline is December 24th, 2003. You can start to build today. In case there is no free lot left, tgram me, bluebean. sincerly, bluebean Something Interesting on CNN.comJun 4, 2004, 12:24pm
Well as far as I'm concerend, I'm already paying AWI 2400 bucks for a stupid
little world. And even every year! How many acres is a P150 anyway? Sing along: Beans Acres is the place to be Farm livin' is the life for me Land spreadin' out so far and wide Keep Manhattan, just gimme that countryside :p "kathryn delanuit" <me at me.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:40bfb5c2$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > geeeez don't give AWI any ideas. Excuse me for jumping in, but where's the intercultural conflict with SWE?
He's more american than most of the americans I know. His thought process is, as he proves with his post, rather simple: give me money. His goals are quite similar to any average US teenager: sex, cell phones, video games, sex, cars, and ... did I mention sex already? I really wish he would be different LOL :p ;) ".sharon" <sharonclarke at prexar.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:40d703de$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > Intercultural conflict is part of the reason we've been unsuccessful in the > Newsgroups.
